I thinks its a shame its not the novelty of a team that we might never play again, at our place give them a grand day out in a big stadium with a nice big crowd, and probably them giving us a good run for our money for the first hour.

Nope its the same old shoite............... Who will give us a good run for our money because they are so use to playing us.

I still expect us to beat them though.

Since there are enough of you who have done it would someone kindly tell me why this is a "crap and boring" draw ?

Surely a team in a lower league who we should beat to progress to the 3rd round is a good draw isn't it ?

And how can it be boring ? It could end up 6-4 !!!

You didnt go to the league cup game did you mate?! ;-)

Boring draw in the sense we have played them alot in the cups recently. Good draw in the sense we should roll them over and the 3rd round awaits.

Because it's like Groundhog day! How many times have we drawn them in the last couple of seasons?

One advantage (if you can call it that) of being in the 1st and 2nd Rounds, is that you might actually get to go to a town or a ground you've never visited before. We've got Bristol bloody Rovers and Northampton ****ing Town!

What like it has for Charlton, Hartlepool etc ? ;)

Did anyone say the Quarter Final draw at home to Wolves back in 2003 was boring by the way ?

No because that was the quarter finals, this is the second round, a long way off the quarters.

I predict beating Northampton and drawing someone like Blackburn away in the 3rd round and losing 2-0. Simple and boring.

yeah I did actually and I sat next to Wade Elliott's dad.....very interesting he was too !

How much better are we now than we were then by the way ?

Our team that night:

Southampton: Davis, Murty (Thomson, 76), Thomas, Lancashire, Harding, James, Wotton, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Lambert (Gobern, 85), Paterson (Rasiak, 66).

Quite a different team (no big CBs, no Hammond, little or no pace) while the likes of Lambert (for whom Northampton was his debut) were finding their feet.

We should tw*t them to Kingdom Come now then.

"What a sh*t draw, but hey, look on the bright side, weve had an away and a home game against southampton, it's like weve not missed out on the benefits of being in league 1 by going down lol" - Northampton Fan

Aww thats nice, Northampton feel that the only benefit to being in league 1 is to play us... I'm flattered.

Draws I would have preferred....

Home to anybody.

Away to... Bath City, Gateshead, Barrow, Cambridge United (for old times' sake), York City, Hereford United, Exeter City, Port Vale/Stevenage, Carlisle/Morecambe, Barnet, Accrington Stanley, Staines, Rushden & Diamonds, Nortwich Victoria, Aldershot, Wrexham, or even Kettering Town.

Can we draw it again? Best out of three?

Now now, no need to be sarcastic - when the draw came out i just said "that will do" cos it should mean progression to Round 3....which is what we all want...right ? :)

agree, could have been easier and at home - but still not exciting!;)

Who really cares? The excitement doesn't start till the 3rd round, I just want to beat whoever is put in front of us this round and get into the fa cup proper.

always used to think it started getting exciting at 6th round! time have changed!

Very underwhelmed - but as for the Charlton game this afternoon - they were like us last season at Bristol Rovers! There was only ever going to be one outcome...the underdog winning.

I don't think it will make any difference whatsoever as they will come to SMS looking for a draw, and hope to sneak a win. An early goal for us is very important - I'd stick with 4-5-1- and switch to 4-4-2 in the second half - it sems to do us OK. We don't get overrun in midfield and concede early goals - and then step up a gear when they have run out of puff! I honestly do not think we have anything to worry about on Wednesday night!

Did you see that elbow by McLeod? he should have been red carded for that!

I'd love to see him try that type of approach on Jaidi!!!

Off to Bristol tomorrow - I hope to bump into some Rovers fans as I'm heading for the infamous Southmead district. This area was made notorious for their welcome to our Asian friends the other night on Panorama.

Im sure their ground has a stand for away fans that allocates about 800 tickets , does it need to be more for FA Cup ? Im sure capacity is only about

8,000 so what ever the percentage is for FA Cup these days

Capacity is about just over 7,600, we are entitled to 15% as it's a cup game so we will get about 1,150.

Major draw back is that they have such a small ground we'll only get about 1100 tickets, if they apply the 15% rule for Cup Ties.

The game will probably get changed to the Friday evening by the police because it clashes with a car boot sale or something similar

Accrington Stanley in round 3 would be nice though ;)

As Preston will not allow Neil T to play in the FA Cup and he is on 4 bookings it would be nice if we could arrange for him to get booked against Norwich (21 Nov), so that his one match ban is on the 28th Nov.

(I'm assuming the 7 day rule is still in force (suspension starts 7 days after last booking). If they have changed it to come into line with red cards (suspensions start immediately) then make that 5th booking against Hartlepool).

Not sure you can serve a suspension in a game you are not eligible for.

Interesting point that. He is eligible to play as he is officially on loan at Southampton. As far as I know, any other 'understandings' about not playing against the club that holds your registration or not getting cup-tied are unofficial and cannot be written into the loan agreement.

Nice to see you took the winkey thing in there =] Of course we are better but Northampton only appear to have gotten worse in the last 2 months so hardly condusive to a top quality enjoyable game is it.

Wonder if it will get moved again as Kettering are at home and MK Dons too, both close to Northampton.

The Northamptonshire copper will have is work cut out cycling round those 3 grounds keeping the peace.

oh dear oh dear... living in Kettering (for my sins), isn't like living in the sticks fwiw. I have an in-law in "The force" and it isnt all sweetness and light!!

There are rules about loanees in the FA Cup and the loaned club has to get permission from the loaner club, so I would assume as no permission was given he would be ineligible to play.

Kettering v Leeds will not take place on the same day Northampton v Saints does. It depends on tv which one moves.
