You don't do yourself any favours do you? You can't complain about people being hypercritical of your opinions if that's how you react to people.

Very much agree... Alpine get your head out of your ass. Maybe.. just maybe.. there is someone out there who didn't realise this fact. Maybe this forum doesn't revolve around you.

I believe me and you were the ones preaching about our potential to do well this season while everyone around us told us time after time (after time) that we were being unrealistic and this is just a re-building season.

do we get any praise for being right? noooooooooo

shame we were so poor 1st ten games.....

It's all about perspectives. Many people see the last seven games as vindication of the view that Pardew was getting things right and that it was always going to take 10 games to get results going our way (and that maybe we shouldn't have been doubting Pardew's ability after a handful of games).

Different people. Different viewpoints.

Oh you are so right. I bet if we looked back through the match threads and pardew out threads Mr Glasgow Saint was out there *****ing.

For me since the moment pardew walked into this club things have been improved and the team has moved forward day by day. Results were difficult to come by at first but in my mind there was only one way his team were going and that was up.

Anyone want to sack Pardew, replace him with Dutch conmen and reinstate Lowe? No?...

Happy Days!

Of course not. But the average Saints fan can count and knows the results we're getting.

NickG seems to feel the need to state the bleedin obvious after every game. We're not stupid, he's not the only one to spot the run, and its getting tedious.

and yet its ok for you to state the bleedin obvious when we lose

Quite.

Any news from the pontificating patronising "reality checkers" telling us what a fantastic achievement it would be just to stay up this season?

Let's see whose reality is more accurate come season end shall we?

I wonder if we're allowed to say we're a bigger club than Yeovil Town yet? Or that still too "arrogant".

Just staying up this season will be a fantastic achievement.....

When viewed from a historical perspective back in mid May...:o

It will still be a fantastic achievement when viewed after the results in the first few weeks.

Getting into the playoffs will be an astonishing achievement, in fact winning it and getting back into the CCC first time around would count as one of the great feats in modern English football.

What IS really important is that we are finally seeing that supporting a football team CAN be fun again. AND we can dream, we can hope or we can even expect that this can keep going and going and going.

More to the point Nick, isn't it great to see:

1. PACE

2. Confidence

3. Belief.

All three have been missing for so long.

Last night's goals showed quick intelligent football thinking. It's probably always been there in some of the players but it's taken decent management to realise it.

And then there are the quality players we have been allowed to bring in - at last!!!!

great reading,

but we don't keep clean sheets...and if we have a bad day in front of goal, we'll loose...we don't seem to have it in us atm to grind out a 0-0...

Not going to be many days we fail to score at least Two Goals Connoly Lambert Antonio would not look out of place top playing top 6 in Championship

I don't need to say a word, I don't think I'm the only one who is finding Alpine "Victor Meldrew" Saint's attitude starting to get grating. I've never seen so much negativity from anyone. I grew up with negative parents, and they are like Tony Robbins compared to Alpine.

By the way, I put it to Mark Bright on Twitter......I asked him if we could make the playoffs. His answer was: "it'll be tough having started from -10, but making up the 12 points is doable". He wished his old team mate Alan Pardew good luck before the game last night too.

you are right - particularly confidence. One of our biggest problems since relegation - the amount of games when we hae played well, given goal away and collapsed.

It's five wins and two draws.

But wasn't really bothered about the Torquay game to be honest, just a bit of a bonus to get through on pens and start the Wembley march!

There's no FA Cup 2nd Round tie that's not winnable, and if we can get past Charlton this week things will be getting interesting on the Cup front. Anything that builds the momentum and feel-good factor must be good.

I think I know what you mean, but for a team which regularly scores 3 it's a bit odd to read criticism that they can't grind out a no-score draw.

We're suddenly back to the kind of football we played with Channon and Keegan: "So they'll score 3? Who cares, we'll score 4!" It's a bit nervy after what we've been through, and I must admit I would feel a little bit more secure if we could shut up shop a bit better. AP seems to think the same thing, but since we started out as a team who couldn't score at all I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

I'd suggest that philosophy while entertaining is unlikely to get you very far in the long term - Kevin Keegan's (trophy-less) reign at Newcastle being a good illustration of the point . Successful teams are nearly always built on the foundation of a solid defence .

i didn't mean it as a criticism at the moment, just that really good teams on their bad days can grind out a scrappy 1-0 or even hold onto a 0-0 away - i'm not sure we can do that yet...

Maybe Alps feels bitter because he can't be there to witness our recent improvement, which is understandable.

Personally I hope he can get back and enjoy some games.

Group hug anyone?

I just find the smugness and sermonising about Saints performances tedious. We could go back to where we came from at the drop of a hat, and you all know it.

I am really chuffed at the change of fortune at our club, and look forward to the next match with confidence now - we shouldnt fear anyone.

But I also know that if a whiff of complaiceny sets in, that could all change overnight.

Ah, the popular Keegan only attacked misconception.

Newcastle conceded 37 goals when they finished second to Manchester United, second only to United's 35. They scored 66 to United's 73.

The following season Newcastle conceded 40 goals to United's 44 - again finishing second and first respectively.

I say this not to pick on your point (becasue I do agree with you) but because I am a Champion of Kevin Keegan who is totally maligned in this regard that he was an all out attacking manager.

Yes, his teams played attractive football. That was not, however, at the expense of a tight defence.

I am not even going to bother explaining why this is a ridiculous way to look at football.

I actually agree with you. Complacency is all we have to fear this season, because we have the manager and more importantly the quality of players to fear absolutely noone.

We might lose through bad luck.

But we should not be outplayed unless we don't turn up.

However, to take turning up for granted is the first sign of complacency.

I have said it before, I will say it now. Our only objective is to win the next game.

Agree completely, with one caveat : I hope AP is doing all he can in-between matches to either secure the services of Antonio and Trottman permanently, or finding permanent replacements of similar quality.

January isnt that far away...

I think we will buy both.

Trottman is a good player but bear in mind Thomas did an equally good job against Bristol Rovers - the goals were nothing to do with him.

Antonio looks like he is surplus to requirements at Reading. Rogers must be driving their fans to distraction. They can't score, can't win at home and he loans out a bloke who makes one and scores one and has pace to burn, oh and a good first touch...

While I understand your concerns, the reality is you'd never heard of Trottman or Antonio before they rocked up at our place so I have every faith the management are on top of this situation.

Especially, when you consider that they are aiming for promotion. Why would they do anything to undermine this???

And you'll be the first on here to to start a thread to remind us so please don't be so miserable when we are on a winning streak and someone starts a cheerful post about how we are doing. If you find the smugness and sermonising tedious then don't reply but as you are one of the first to slate the manager/players when we are on a losing streak you have to realise happy clappys like us should be alowed to start cheerful threads as well as you starting doom and gloom threads.
