JackFrost Posted 6 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 6 November, 2009 How is Ted Hankey seeded number 2?! I assume he gets it automatically cos he's the BDO world champion. Judging by how upset he got when a few people booed him in the silence of the BDO world championships, with the Grand Slam crowd being very noisy he could totally lose it
The Saturday Boy Posted 6 November, 2009 Share Posted 6 November, 2009 I don't think they have even bothered to invite Martin Adams this year. Although, I'm sure he's happier picking up £500 for winning a tournament at a holiday camp in Eastbourne against a bunch of no-bodies then getting embarrassed by the likes of Taylor and Wade on national tv. Some weird looking groups there. I'm not sure how they've seeded it but I bet Mervyn King is a happy man after seeing his group!

Adams not competing in the grand slam dates back to a dispute in the late 90s when the PDC banned him from playing in any of their competitions. There is an element of PDC propaganda related to the Martin Adams issue but the bloke is so outdated he plays into their hands. The PDC have confirmed Adams will never play in the grand slam. The Saturday Boy Posted 6 November, 2009 Share Posted 6 November, 2009 I thought the BDO stopped Adams playing in the PDC events. I seem to remember he played in a couple of World Matchplays around the same time that Ronnie Baxter got to the final of one. Baxter was still a member of the BDO back then. I know they stopped Colin Monk's son playing for the England youth team, because they found out he had competed in some PDC events. Barry Hearn has invited Adams to the last couple of GSOD, but Adams has refused both times, so they've not bothered to even ask him this year. The playoff for the final spot is tonight, and there are fair old players in it - http://www.pdc.tv/page/GrandSlamDetail/0,,10180~1866798,00.html

The PDC will make sure Adams and the BDO becomes the laughing stock anyway lol
chrisobee Posted 7 November, 2009 Share Posted 7 November, 2009 How is Ted Hankey seeded number 2?! Yes, around about 12th favourite with the bookies at 66/1 though I think 500/1 would be more realistic. He has no chance even though his group isn't the strongest though if Mardle is in the right mood he'll take him out.

Yes though I'm not sure who the wildcard is, someone like Baxter could make it tougher. The Barney/Part/Painter group looks really loaded though one would expect Van Barneveld to progress though it could well be close. My last 8: Taylor King Barneveld Lloyd Mardle Anderson Lewis Wade

The Saturday Boy Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Steve Maish was the wildcard qualifier, beating Arron Monk (son of Colin), in the final - http://www.pdc.tv/page/GrandSlamDetail/0,,10180~1868824,00.html

He has no chance even though his group isn't the strongest though if Mardle is in the right mood he'll take him out. It'll go one or two ways, either he'll get his head down wanting to impress, block out the crowd and get into the second round or quarters, or he'll let the crowd get to him, moan constantly and lose to all 3 players. As always it all depends on which Ted Hankey turns up. I agree with you i think Mardle will beat him if Mardle gets his head straight. I think Whitlock will beat him as well, he even gave Taylor a fright last year before Taylor completely overpowered him. Waites is a player who consistently averages in the high 90s but can be a terrible finisher.
bungle Posted 18 November, 2009 Share Posted 18 November, 2009 Taylor stuffed 5-1 by Van der Voort in game that didn't matter. Colin Osborne throwing it away against Brian "Pecker" Woods of all people. Tony O'Shea looking good - met him in a pub in Stockport when Saints played up there. So can still qualify but needs to beat Simon Whitlock in his final game. Terry Jenkins and Gary Anderson are already through along with the 8 from groups A-D. Terry Jenkins and Gary Anderson are already through along with the 8 from groups A-D. Mardle was once in the Halfway Inn in Chandlers Ford and had a few games with my Grandad, my Dad and his mates. My Grandad beat him in a best of 5 legs and my old man took a leg off him in a 1-2 loss. Top bloke apparently. Dont know if he was using it as an excuse for losing a match and dropping another couple of legs but he said it takes him a couple of hours practise "to get his eye in" before he feels comfortable competing. Always wondered whether that was the norm with Pro's like Barney and Taylor or if they can just go out and turn it on.
hypochondriac Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 So close to the 9 darter at the end. Still, Phil is pretty much untouchable.
keithd Posted 23 November, 2009 Share Posted 23 November, 2009 So close to the 9 darter at the end. Still, Phil is pretty much untouchable. yep, the expected one sided final was indeed that. Taylor two heads and two shoulders above and beyond anybody else in the darting world. Even Barny is a different person when he plays Taylor, loses all self belief and seems he cant wait to get off the stage. Put anybody else up against him and he's (Barny) a different player. Mind you, has to be very demoralising going two or three behind, he just never lets up. awesomeness

Scary thing is, he could be winning more major tournaments than not in 20 years when his body is on the wane. He is that good.
