SaintDonkey Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 [i know this is being discussed on other threads but I reckon it deserves one of it's own] With Preston refusing to allow Trotman to play on Friday who do you think should stand in for him? Perry has the best footballing brain but I don't think his legs are up to it alongside the similarly aging Jaidi so doe sthat just leave Thomas? Or maybe a surprise inclusion for the Martin (assuming he's signed in time and isn't cup tied already!)
Scummer Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'd probably play Thomas. He was doing quite well earlier this season, albeit largely at right back.
St Will Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 If BR play small strikers, I'd go with Perry. If they have a big target man, slap Thomas in there.
Saint_clark Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Perry, I understand why people think he struggles against tall strikers but he really doesn't, he times his jumping perfectly. I remember last season when we came up against Ben Burgess at Blackpool - Killer couldn't beat him in the air, but whenever Perry went up he always won the ball.
bungle Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'd go for Thomas, but it's a tough call. Also, I guess this decision throughs in some doubt as whether we'll be able to keep Trotman until the end of the season.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Aaron Martin? Maybe too much of a leap of faith?
SaintDonkey Posted 3 November, 2009 Author Posted 3 November, 2009 Martin played in the qualifying rounds for Eastleigh so I guess he's out of the picture.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 We're safe there because even if we did call him back from Grimsby, he'd be suspended because of his LATEST red card.
Saint Samuel Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 We're safe there because even if we did call him back from Grimsby, he'd be suspended because of his LATEST red card. That's a relief then!
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Is that the photo of the only time hes manged to out jump someone to the ball?
Andy_Porter Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'd probably go with Thomas really don't like either of them though. Will be a shame if we can't keep hold of Trottman.
JackFrost Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 We're safe there because even if we did call him back from Grimsby, he'd be suspended because of his LATEST red card. To be fair he is ONLY averaging 1 red card in every 5 games
Lets B Avenue Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 To be fair he is ONLY averaging 1 red card in every 5 games Only because he hasn't played more.
CWD Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 If BR play small strikers, I'd go with Perry. If they have a big target man, slap Thomas in there. Ditto.
JibMcdo Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 we could play Wotton at the back You so funny. If Trotman was out it would be Thomas that came in. If Jaidi was out would be Perry that came in, imo.
Fan The Flames Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Is that the photo of the only time hes manged to out jump someone to the ball? No they are both lying on the floor after a collision, Lancashire is just pushing himself up and the ball smashes him in the face.
sussexsaint Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Could James play cb and murty return at rb?
Saint_clark Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Could James play cb and murty return at rb? You joking?
Andy_Porter Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 (edited) You joking? Lloyd James at centre back would be bizzare even by last seasons Poortvillet standards. Edited 3 November, 2009 by Andy_Porter
krissyboy31 Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Lloyd James at right back would be bizzare even by last seasons Poortvillet standards. Freudian slip I would suggest.
Andy_Porter Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Freudian slip I would suggest. Long day ...
70's Mike Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 based on how Rovers played at SMS, I would go with Perry they rely on pace and width to break down teams
Professor Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I never expected us to sign Mellis as its a standard Cherlsea loan, but now looks like Preston will not want to sell Trotman. As for the spot this week, I'd go for Thomas.
mightysaints Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 My worry is that with Preston stopping him from playing then they will want him back. If they were not to keen on keeping him then surely they would have released him to play.
70's Mike Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Markus will offer £800k in January to Preston
Glasgow_Saint Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Markus will offer £800k in January to Preston how do you know this Mike?
Legod Third Coming Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'd probably play Thomas. He was doing quite well earlier this season, albeit largely at right back. I thought he was doing brilliantly and bloody unlucky to get injured and the find the man in possession also playing well. Thomas for me.
Psycrow Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'm more worried about the chances of keeping him if that is Preston's wish
ribbo Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I'm more worried about the chances of keeping him if that is Preston's wish it works both ways, either they are making sure he isnt cup tied to play him themselves or they dont want him cuptied so that he can fetch a better price on the market this season.
benjii Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 I thought he was doing brilliantly and bloody unlucky to get injured and the find the man in possession also playing well. Thomas for me. Absolutely, he's been really good when he's played this season IMO. I would pick him, possibly with Perry actually, and give Jaidi a rest.
Andy_Porter Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Absolutely, he's been really good when he's played this season IMO. Really good?! obviously didn't go to Huddersfield or Swindon. He's a terrible footballer, i'm struggling to think of an above average performance from Thomas let alone a really good performance. He's ****.
benjii Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Didn't go to Huddersfield, no. Maybe "really good" was over the top but he's a good centre back in League One.
Docker Walker6 Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Preston will not be able to turn the money down for Trotman in January, Thomas for me!
Arizona Posted 3 November, 2009 Posted 3 November, 2009 Really good?! obviously didn't go to Huddersfield or Swindon. He's a terrible footballer, i'm struggling to think of an above average performance from Thomas let alone a really good performance. He's ****. If we're going to judge people based on those games then Lambert is also terrible. By and large, I think Thomas has been a pretty good centre half. The problem is he has never had a partner for more than 3 games. In his first season here we played 18 players* in defence. This season he hasn't had all that many games, but in those he has played he was partnered by the ageing Perry and the appaling Lancashire. Thomas, Perry, Powell, Lucketti, Dailly, Davies, Ifil, Wright, Viafara, Vignal, Euell, Skacel, Surman, Ostlund, Makin, Bennett... trying to remember the others. Lundekvam and Mettomo, but they didn't play.
Ash Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Really good?! obviously didn't go to Huddersfield or Swindon. He's a terrible footballer, i'm struggling to think of an above average performance from Thomas let alone a really good performance. He's ****. He was really quite good at Stockport. If Trotman goes back in January, Thomas is easily good enough for this division.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Difficult call - Thomas for his bulk or Perry for his composure. I think for this game, Thomas gets the call.
alpine_saint Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Perry. I really dont know what to think of Thomas anymore, and I dont want to see Lancashire anywhere near the first team again (thank f**k he is on loan) until he has done some serious growing up.
Junior Mullet Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 We need the fastest CB we have at our disposal. BR ripped us to shreds a few weeks ago with pace down the flanks and cutting in to the middle. We need someone with a bit of pace and acceleration to counter that. The thought of Jaidi plodding around against them again is quite scarey - sure he can deal with the aerial threat but BR play mostly on the ground.
Third Division South Days Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 He was really quite good at Stockport. If Trotman goes back in January, Thomas is easily good enough for this division. He may well be good enough but with his injury record I suspect he would be unavailable for 50% of games.
Saint_clark Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Thomas is nowhere near as good as Trotman, if we can't keep hold of him in january we should bring someone else in rather than putting our faith in Thomas.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Thomas is nowhere near as good as Trotman, if we can't keep hold of him in january we should bring someone else in rather than putting our faith in Thomas. I think the OP was really just about this Fridays game. But yes, if we cannot hold onto Trottman in January we need to find a good replacement and quick. It might be Martin - who knows - perhaps he is THAT good?!
SFKA South Woodford Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Is that the photo of the only time hes manged to out jump someone to the ball? Yes, it was Nathan Dyers little brother!
Andy_Porter Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 He was really quite good at Stockport. If Trotman goes back in January, Thomas is easily good enough for this division. He wasn't too bad in defense but every time he got the ball in the opposition half he wasted it. I really don't see what anyone see's in him as a footballer if he was 6ft+ he'd be no where near league football.
