dune Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 Tattoo's are a bit chavvy in my humble opinion. They give the same image as those that display designer labels in prominent positions. All very cheap and tacky.
hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 How is it not...okay the mona lisa is art, if you saw a picture of it in a book it would still be art, as a tattoo is still art. Its one of the worlds oldest art forms and to say its not its just plain ridiculous. Ok then define art and then say why it's ridiculous.
Deanovski Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 (edited) "A visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination. The term art encompasses diverse media such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, decorative arts, photography, and installation. " And i dont know how you can say every tattoo is cheap and tacky, anything can be a a tattoo...is everything cheap and tacky? Edited 10 November, 2009 by Deanovski
Tractor_Saint Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 i think it all depends i have my chest and 2 arms done and im still getting more Blimey - could spot you in the crowd then with 3+ arms...
hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 There is no definitive definition of art and so therefore I can say that IMO a tattoo is not art and you can say that in your opinion it is but you cannot state as fact that it is or isn't.
Deanovski Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 stop trying to come across as being clever by being pedantic and overbearing. It just is art theres no opinion on that, it's like me saying onion isnt food because i dont like the taste.

It just is art theres no opinion on that, it's like me saying onion isnt food because i dont like the taste. It's not like that at all and I'm not trying to sound clever. An onion is a food whether you like the taste or not because it is used as fuel for your body and if you eat enough of it will fill you up. There are some tattoos that I really like the look of but that doesn't automatically qualify them as art, it's subjective because the definition of art is a personal one. Do you understand the difference?
Deanovski Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 You dont seem to get it they have been tattooing before painting even existed ( or even around the same time as cave paintings) but you seem to consider a painting art?
hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 You dont seem to get it they have been tattooing before painting even existed ( or even around the same time as cave paintings) but you seem to consider a painting art? I don't think I mentioned anywhere what I considered art to be and what has timing got to do with anything? I fail to see how you aren't getting this. You think tattoos are art and I don't and neither of us are wrong because the definition of art is a personal one. Understand?

Do you understand the difference? Sorry mate but you just don`t get it .

hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 spot on ! What exactly am I "not getting"? I'm not knocking tattoos, just saying that IMO they are not art and since there is no definitive definition of art, I'm not incorrect for saying that. Sigh I'm boring myself now.
hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 yes your boring us too yawn I take it from that that you've lost the argument and have accepted that someone else has a different view to your own. Nice to know.
Red&White Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 Now that is really funny ha ha.............nob
hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 So are you unable to debate sensibly without resorting to insults? A shame.

hypochondriac Posted 10 November, 2009 Posted 10 November, 2009 http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/art hth according to aesthetic principles And since these principles are different for each individual, my point still stands.
