Arizona Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Draw away from home, can't argue with that. P.S. four four ferkin' two!!!!!!
Stepgar Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Should we now start with a 442 . At home at least?
Jimmy_D Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Even when it all looks like it's going wrong we manage to earn a point. Good signs.
Mr X Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 well done saints!!!!! showing some mental strength at last
S-Clarke Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Great effort by the lads, never say die attitude. Must say if it was our day, we could have finished orient off by 5-6 goals, but at least we didn't lose and this comeback will add even more confidence to this team.
Cumbria Saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I think we would now be in the playoffs if it wasn't for our -10.
gjphilsaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 corner turned IMHO good response away from home. Well done fans also. With the 10+ we would be just off the play offs . Onwards!!
alpine_saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Disappointing. This game should have been buried. We left changing formation too late. Lambert is a true gem. Antonio should start next game
SaintRobbie Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Showing Character, working up a new system, quality on the bench, quality throughout the team, well led, good decisionmaking by the manager. We're going to be OK this season and dominate the league next.
Saint Stimp Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Antonio has to start. pretty sure his loan is over now
View From The Top Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I think, like many, felt that this was a banana skin game. To come back from 2 down was a great effort and proof that we are back and we mean business.
sfc6mufc3 Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good fight back - sounded like we deserved a draw on chances alone. Nice to turn the tables and see other teams (usually us) squander a lead Keeps the run going and a win v Brighton puts us closer to safety.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good comeback from 2-0, must start with 4-4-2 note to manager!
EBS1980 Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Accept a point after being 2-0 down. Listened on the radio, we were all over them, if we had our shooting boots on today i think we would have won by a distance. Saints: Shots on target 9 Shots off target 8 Corners 13 Orient: Shots on target 2 Shots off target 4 Corners 5 Not bad considering we were the away team. Another point and another game unbeaten, roll on the next game..
sussexsaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Crowd were and stilla re absolutely amazing singing their hearts out - well played eveyrone who went along
Yate Saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good draw in the end. Shows the team have some fighting spirit and will fight to the end. Not had that in a Saints side for years.
Northant Saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Disappointing. This game should have been buried. We left changing formation too late. Lambert is a true gem. Antonio should start next game haha Alps you make me laugh, always provoking that little reaction...

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Do you agree this team has a never say die attitude now? We never know when we are beaten. Don`t you just LOVE Ricky Lambert...
Stepgar Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 pretty sure his loan is over now Didn't we have the option to extend it whe we first took him on? If we have then I fully expect to be taking this option.
gjphilsaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I can see why AP leaves antonio & connolly on the bench. It gives us options. For now , away from home I can understand his decision to srart how he does. Good to have something in reserve. Would Antonio have given them the runaround as much if the opposition ewere fresher? Maybe.. maybe not... but at least he has that option.
CB Fry Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I never thought we would lose at any point, even at two down, it sounded like we battered them. If the worst we do this season is batter a team and not quite win, then we'll storm through this league. We're not going to win every game but we'll win a hell of a lot.
CanadaSaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 There are three keys to success: Tighten up defensively from set pieces. Change to 4-4-2 a little earlier. Get Bairdylegend to predict a loss. The last one works best.
S-Clarke Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Didn't we have the option to extend it whe we first took him on? If we have then I fully expect to be taking this option. Reading are dragging their hills at us extending the loan, according to the echo webchat thing y/day
alpine_saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 haha Alps you make me laugh, always provoking that little reaction... Tell me something. Do you think we would ahve won if we had played 442 with Antonio from the start, or even from the start of the second half ? I agree with someone's previous comment - why leave it until 60mins to change if the system isnt working ?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good game - well done to the team and supporters. We can't win 'em all, but happy not to lose again. Happy to be moving in the right direction once again. Whatever the formation, I think Antonio should replace Papa W on merit.

Katalinic Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Expected to win before the game but even at 2-0 down I thought we'd get back into it - not something I would say about any other Saints side from the past 5 years. Finally we have some belief in the side to deal with the knockbacks, which are inevitable during a season.
Matthew Le God Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I think we would now be in the playoffs if it wasn't for our -10. No we wouldn't
Belgiansaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Brilliant comeback. Reminds of Eastenders: "Oh Rickeeeeeeey!"
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Im pleased with the point, at least after being 2 down its so refreshing to have a fight back rather than complete compitulation
trousers Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good comeback but pardew changed team too late. We should have changed at half tome...just like I posted...why do some managers insist on not changing until 10 minutes into the second half? If it ain't working change it straight away rather than giving it an arbitrary amount of extra time!
EBS1980 Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Sounds like Antonio is a good impact sub. Brought him on when they were begining to tire and it sounded like he was really in the game and created a few good chances.
martel Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I think, like many, felt that this was a banana skin game. To come back from 2 down was a great effort and proof that we are back and we mean business. I have to fully agree with that statement, it showed real metal to come back from two down, they must be feeling like they lost two points instead of gaining one; any draw away is a result, provided we keep wining at home.
CWD Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Good result in the end, the important thing for me was that we didnt lose this week. Lambert is so important to us
ericofarabia Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Although disappointed at only drawing 2-2, to come back from 2 down makes it feel like a win. Can't be too down beat as it sounded like a cracking game rather than a lucky comeback. Agree about the 4-4-2 but to be fair we had plenty of chances to get a head with the 4-5-1 Having the players to be able to change formations seamlessly AND a manager who will happily make that decision is a major major step forward for us. Pressure off now the winning streak is off, now we can get back to another 4 wins before another draw
ulstersaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Expected to win before the game but even at 2-0 down I thought we'd get back into it - not something I would say about any other Saints side from the past 5 years. Finally we have some belief in the side to deal with the knockbacks, which are inevitable during a season. An indicator or Saints' progress under Pardew is that even when losing we have a belief that we can come back and get something from from the game. Contrast that with several seasons when Saints went behind with fans thinking it's all over.

Contrast that with several seasons when Saints went behind with fans thinking it's all over. Golden Post nomination. We now have optimism and faith... oh smell the vindication! I love that we finally sold this club! Roll on the good times!

We should have changed at half tome...just like I posted...why do some managers insist on not changing until 10 minutes into the second half? If it ain't working change it straight away rather than giving it an arbitrary amount of extra time! Because you nevefr know what he has said at the half time interval. He has to see what is going on in response. If nothing has changed then yes time to change. Which is exactly what he did. Last week and this. We should thank ourselves lucky, if this were last season we wouldn't have changed it at all.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 No we wouldn't Correct we would be 7th on goal difference i think
saintsmike25 Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 The most important thing in this game is MOMEMTUM. We showed alot of heart to come back from 2-0 down when before we would have folded, now if the team picks up our next game against Bristol Rovers, with the same forward momemtum and we start a pick quicker we'll pick up a win no doubt. I'm delighted with the comeback, and it's a shame we missed sitters apparently, we're creating tonnes of chances too. With a few more wins we'll be in mid-table. Pardew has a dilemma now.. start with 4-4-2? the 4-5-1 ensures we 'dominate' at times but perhaps leaves Lambert a bit too isolated, why not try it in the cup? and give Antonio a start too he deserves it. Whilst Waigo is playing well it sends out a message that every player has to earn their place in the team. Also, i don't think we can play Jaidi EVERY game we need someone else he's 35 or whatever. It's a shame i can't trust Perry or Lancashire at the back.. COYR.
St Landrew Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Tell me something. Do you think we would ahve won if we had played 442 with Antonio from the start, or even from the start of the second half ? I agree with someone's previous comment - why leave it until 60mins to change if the system isnt working ? Yes, it does seem frustrating, but there is an argument to make a change at an appropriate time. It's possible that starting with 4-4-2, for example, will lose its impact over the game. I'm sure Pardew's idea is to play 4-5-1, and keep things tight, away from home; only changing to 4-4-2 when the situation demands it. Yes, after changing to 4-4-2, Saints came alive, but they must also learn to play well with 4-5-1, because there are always going to be situations where it is the best tactical formation.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 We just can't stop scoring 3 a game can we - pity one went in our own net !
suewhistle Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Well, I feared the worst before the game - usual Saints failings coming into play. Just got back from a winery trip: I thought I'd been taking it easy, but then had some cask samples of the new vintage (red and white!) that tasted like fruit juice. The winemaker only told me afterwards that they were 14% already. But hey, I'm home safely and out to celebrate our recovery!
Cumbria Saint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Does anyone have the data required to put together a week by week assessment of how many points we needed to get into the playoffs? We started off 10 points off them (with our -10 and everyone else's 0), I think we were 18(?) points off them a few weeks ago and now it is back to 10. It would be interesting to keep a watch on it as the season goes by too. I have to say I am getting cautiously optimistic that we might just squeak in there by the end of the season.
