Saints/Pompey rivalry

As you rightly say, made up in a portsmyth fanzine a few years back (one of the skate posters in 'The Lounge' even confessed he was involved with it sometime ago) when some started to question the reasons behind their extreme hatred for us. And they had to come up with something tasty.

They invented something they thought would get 'poor ol' "working-class" p*mpey the sympathy vote and instant justification for their obsessive hate/bitterness/envy/etc.

I always thought it was total rubbish too. Similarly, there is a story saying that West Ham fans hate Millwall partly because the Millwall docks carried on working in the 1926 general strike. I have never seen any evidence to support this story whatsoever but it has been repeated in papers like the Mail and the Times.

Bloody Hell ... shouldn't that Full frontal pin up have a NSFW warning, looking at the size of that gash it looks like Westwood has been wearing it on his head :o

Love the official names ... Slapper Skate and Blue Skate ... aren't they one and the same in the end :p

I know a guy who supports both Saints AND Portsmouth. Try working that one out in your head.

What did he do when it was Saints V Pompey or Pompey V Saints? Sat in the home end I suppose. Actually, years ago at school I knew a kid whose Stepdad took him to the Dell and Farton on alternate weeks and he even had Saints and Pompey shirts he wore. Can't quite understand it myself as I'm never as interested in a match when Saints aren't involved, even if you take away the obvious dislike between the two clubs and sets of fans.

LOL....i did think about it, but the Admin would KEEEEELLLLLL me!!! lol...so, it shall remain anonymous! :)

i just HONESTLY can't believ that there are people out ther with SO MUCH hatred for something/someone, just because of where they live or who they support!.......it's almost comparable to religious extremism! (without the bombs, obviously!);)

Unfortuanely it's the world we live in, look at Nick Griffin and co at the BNP, it's all pretty pathetic, there are much more important things in life than football, as there are much more important things about a person than where they come from

Look, one can be civil and polite...however much you feel like gagging when in the company of a skate. I frequent Fareham centre more than So'ton actually (easier to get to) and the one issue I have is walking past the Poopey store...its very presence in my midst makes me gag. However, I also do happen to know a couple of extremely pleasant Poopey supporters and therefore I can only assume that they are merely pretending and have no real connection to the ****-hole...

Can't remember which thread but somebody doctored a photograph showing Pompey players, on the shirt the sponsors name is Jobsite but in the photograph it read gob s hite.

Send it to the pompey site that should get them going.

The site in question if the same has shown a remarkable ability to abuse anyone from our side of the fence. playuppompey.net seems to have been put together for the sole purpose of slagging of Saints supporters and friends. That seems their main aim in life. Reasoned chat just doesn't seem possible.

That I wrote a week ago. Now I am able to venture onto their site and almost get welcomed. The sister site to theirs is a very small red based site. It also sees a couple of the more reasonable ones visit it regularly. Yes there are idiots on there but so are there on here. One simply lets the vitriol subside and then you can have some reasonable banter.

I will probably get banned for this next remark.

But did we know that the blue sites sister site is offering next seasons shirt as a prize in a free competition. I have entered and obviously hope top win.

lets hope old james beattie gives them a good 'scumming' this weekend...

Does anyone have copy of that great wallpaper from the League Cup game in 2003, with Beats standing there in front of the Poopey fans after scoring the 1st goal?

My copy is at work and I just have to send it to someone as a reminder... :-)

I don't have a hatred for PFC, that is toos strong.

I want them to exist, but at the wrong end of League 2 and find us successfully back in the premier.

We can then lord it over them and hopefully occasionally draw them in the cup, soundly thrash them and put them back in their place.

They areknown as "scumpies" down there. used to be quite a few who went to home games at both.

Recently I read that poopey paraded the cup at the Dell when they won it in 1939

As a kid I used to get taken to fratton every other week by my dad with my bro and sis. My dad supports saints and pompey. However my sis and I have been season ticket holders for years now at the dell and SMS and hate the skates more than anyone. At the time it was good just watch footy every weekend as a kid.

In about 78 I had a pompey mate from school one week we went to see saints the next pompey, we went to Bristol v Saints in the cup one week followed by Swindon v Skates the next, no prob but remember once the hatred thing came out and we were made aware of it we never went to a game together again, guess we were just naive then.

I have just received this in an e-mail and it made me laugh (again0 but then the old ones are the best!!!

A new Primary Teacher at a school near Fratton Park explains to her class that she is an ardent Pompey fan.

She asks her kids to raise their hands if they too are Pompey fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says, 'Mary, why didn't you raise your hand?'

'Because I'm not a Pompey fan' she replied.

The teacher, still shocked, asked 'Well, if you are not a Pompey fan, then who are you a fan of?'

'I am a Saints fan and proud of it' Mary replied.

The teacher could not believe her ears. 'Mary, why are you a Saints fan?'

'Because my mum is a Saints fan and my dad is a Saints fan, so I'm a Saints fan too!'

'Well' said the teacher in an obviously annoyed tone 'that is no reason for you to be a Saints fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your

mum was a prostitute and your dad was an out-of-work drug addict, what would you be then?'

Mary smiled, 'Then I'd be a Pompey fan!'

Oh dear, only 3 seasons out of the prem and you already have the symptoms of lower league syndrome, The once model family club SFC is fast getting the reputation as a footy venue to avoid, Half full of supporters who are bitter and jealous of there friendly neighbour, (now the big cheeses in Hants) Plus the growing problem of a moronic yooooooof following who fink there ard,

A roll reverse! PFC are now the family club.;)

You can only aspire to half fill that toilet that you put manure on every weekend -ask somebody with an SO postcode to explain that to you...attendance proportional to IQ by the 'literacy' displayed

No you weren't. You were still in a time when people went to watch football and the rivalry between teams displayed itself in genuinely humorous banter rather than the witless chants of today. Sadly those days are long gone and we are all the poorer for it though I do recognise that those who have never experienced it will have no comprehension of that fact. Why the hell should you hate anyone just because they support a different team from you?

Well I'm not sure how old you are St Tel but if you went home or away to them in the 70s and 80s or grew up during that time I think it would be fairly clear that there was very far from a friendly bit of banter. Pre 1970 possibly but certainly not after.

I got exactly the same email from a friend, posted at 1pm yesterday. It must be doing the rounds, or else we have mutual friends.
