Arizona Posted 30 October, 2009 Posted 30 October, 2009 ... for Slavia Praha. Not sure what happened to his Debrecen career. Anyway, FWIW here's an interview (in Czech) with a few clips from his debut. Skacel's bit comes in at about 2:20. http://slavia-tv.cz/kategorie/2/184/379823/
pilsburydoughboy Posted 30 October, 2009 Posted 30 October, 2009 Where would he appear in the most over hyped Saints Player top ten?
St Landrew Posted 30 October, 2009 Posted 30 October, 2009 Didn't watch the link, Arizona. I will do later. FWIW, good luck to the bloke. He brought a bit of sparkle for a short while, even if he didn't live up to the hype. It wasn't of his making. This was always fun:

St Landrew Posted 30 October, 2009 Posted 30 October, 2009 Wrong forum, Please alert the mods ....oh Yes, you have a point.
Gemmel Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I thought he was going to sign for us Dragging it slighty on topic.....would we want him now? Would he get in the team? nah, not for me
Rattlehead Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 What has this got to do with Saints? Hmm, Aribona on a power trip perhaps? Certainly not my view but just a random thought.
Saints foreva Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 He thought he was bigger then Southampton Football Club, he was given a hero status by the fans, but never looked bothered. I hope he flops like he did with us. Harding > Skacel.

lordswoodsaints Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 He's too busy waving to the crowd to play football.
Red Alert Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Are you guys seriously doubting that if he was here now and playing well he wouldnt be one of the best players in the league? The new system would have been PERFECT for him and I cant think of many players (Theo, KJ) we have had in the last 5 years that I wish could be brought back more than a fit and up for it Rudi.
dellgirl Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Absolutely agree with you Saint Tsu..wish him well wherever he is.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 He's too busy waving to the crowd to play football. Waving or blaming? £12k pw and he expected us to gee him up?

I wish him well & always thought that he had more in him than he showed BUT - in this league & formation I'd pick Dan Harding every time - he's one of a number of key players that are making this team tick at the moment...like a well-oiled Swiss clock!
beatlesaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Waving or blaming? £12k pw and he expected us to gee him up? No, he just acknowledged the crowd whenever his name was chanted or he came over to take a bloody corner !! There was no geeing up involved.
LatvianTolix Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Former Saint Pekhart plays for Slavia as well. And Latvian goalkeeper Romanovs as well.
Fan The Flames Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I always thought he performed well for us until farmed out to out of position places. There was a sense of hope when burley took over and we all wanted him to sign RS, nevermind.
red&white56 Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 Aribona? I fully agree - Harding has helped make our defense look good again and he looked threatening going forward. Whereas Rudi always seemd to lack conviction (IMO).
countysaint Posted 31 October, 2009 Posted 31 October, 2009 I agree Harding is a better choice right now, but can't fault the bloke for one reason. After my 9 year old son and I travelled up to Blackpool last season, at the end my boy was waving his large Saints flag at the edge of the pitch, as the players walked off after the game Scatcel turned to applaud the fans and saw my boy with the flag. The rest of the team walked back to the tunnel but Scatcel ran over to him and gave him his shirt. For a nine year old Saints mad kid, that moment will live in his memory forever. Thanks Rudi. Sorry it never worked out.
Whitey Grandad Posted 1 November, 2009 Posted 1 November, 2009 He's a quality player who's a class above this League. It's just a shame that circumstances dictated that we never saw the best from him last season. Good luck to him, but he's gone now so let's deal with it and move on. We have a team that's starting to work well together and with a few more matches and a few reinforcements we can start looking at the top of the League instead of the bottom.

For a nine year old Saints mad kid, that moment will live in his memory forever. Thanks Rudi. Sorry it never worked out. Nice story. I also agree that Harding is a better choice at LB, gut that wasn't the position Rudi was signed to play in. If he had been there wouldn't have been all the hype, which we created - not Rudi, and he wouldn't get nearly as much of a slagging by ignorant fans. FWIW, I think he would be excellent for us in this team and the 4-5-1 formation. IMO he would be starting ahead of Lallana in the attacking wide left berth. He is left footed, can go past a player, has a very good cross and a good shot on him. I think many people forget that in our play-off year, when he was primarily played in his proper LM position, Rudi had the most assists for us. Good luck him.
sebastian firefly Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 No, he just acknowledged the crowd whenever his name was chanted or he came over to take a bloody corner !! There was no geeing up involved. i thought he had a very nice wave a bit like the queen mum after the hip replacement mm??
westy Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Could have justified all the hype and been a legend forever if he'd stuck away that chance away at Derby in injury time in the playoffs to give us a 4-2 win on the night. Apart from that he was good entertainment at times and gave us something to talk about.

Not too sure about a legend forever but he certainly would of been remembered for it just like two penalty takers had they taken their chances in the shoot out....................

Not the same magnitude of course but Reading away in the CCC, when we pulled off an amazing 2-1 win in front of 4000 travelling fans, Rudi blocked a shot on the line in the last few mins. I wish we still had him

fish fingers Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 It all went wrong for him when he signed on the pitch. That was just stupid, he was hardly the worlds best player before he signed for us.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Could have justified all the hype and been a legend forever if he'd stuck away that chance away at Derby in injury time in the playoffs to give us a 4-2 win on the night. Apart from that he was good entertainment at times and gave us something to talk about. I know exactly what would have happened (he said lying through his teeth) 1 - We would have gone on to win the play-off final and been promoted back to the Premier League . 2 - George Burley would surely have failed to keep us up in that 1st season back in the EPL . 3 - SLH would have limped on a little longer in the CCC living off the parachute payment . 4 - Rupert Lowe and Micheal Wilde would oust Leon Crouch summer 2011 and introduce a revolutionary new coaching set up . 5 - 'You know who' would be on here telling us what a wonderful idea this was ........
Foxstone Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 He was the idiot Wilde's central policy of exciting the fan base at the start of the 2006 season, and the "on-pitch signing" and high wages he was paid perhaps did not reflect the fact that he was a good but not "overly good" player.. And with hindsight his "under-delivery" was not perhaps a surprise. Mind you it did'nt help Rudi that Georgie Boy could not fit him into whatever ridiculous system he was dreaming up on a weekly basis either...
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 On the subject of our former players just look how far some of them have fallen : http://www.football.co.uk/falkirk/may_confirms_pele_coup_296751.shtml

Another one of Georgie's wonderful acquisitions during our £7 million spending spree.... Some Manager's should never be allowed near a chequebook!
rooney Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Rudi flattered to deceive. I cannot ever remember him being man of the match.
a1ex2001 Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 As a left winger Rudi was outstanding as shown by his great form in the play off season, he was then a victim of the failure to replace Gareth Bale and landed up playing left back where he was still reasonably effective without ever being brilliant. Last season I thought he did well for us in very difficult circumstances given that he was again played out of position and treated with utter contempt by the managment at the club who clearly wanted him out of the team and off the wage bill. I'd have him back in a heart beat if he wanted to play here as he is definately a class above this league. He is one of a number of players from this period who for some reason will always been talked down, Raziac gets slated yet the period of time when he played week in week out he was brilliant for us and his goal scoring record outstanding. Craine and best both get slatted on here yet both did well when given the oppertunity and did the right thing getting out before the club exploded. I wish people could see some of these players for what they are and that is not the best footballers ever but in terms of performances for saints more than good enough. Shame about Pele I was disapointed when he left and wouldn't mind seeing him back even now.

I know it's not great but it's not the worst league in the world. Good player by the way.
Foxstone Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 'Fallen' to the SPL? I know it's not great but it's not the worst league in the world. Good player by the way. Interesting how fans views differ eh ? I personally thought him lightweight who was unable to adjust to the power and pace of the English game, and was therefore totally ineffectual.
Whitey Grandad Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 I've never forgiven him for the shirt-tug against Derby.
OfnPanad Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 It could all have been so different if the team had been built around Rudi - I always thought he would have been superb in a free role behind the strikers. He was our best player and should have been treated as such. Team talk should have been "Get the ball, give it to Rudi. Watch him wrong-foot defenders by cutting left rather than right, and be ready for a killer pass or stinging left-foot shot." Total waste at left back. Would Matt be where he is now if Branfoot and co had forced him to play cover at right back?
Whitey Grandad Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Would Matt be where he is now if Branfoot and co had forced him to play cover at right back? Branfoot left him on the bench. I spent a miserable afternoon at Highbury watching Paul Moody run around like a headless chicken, and Branfoot was just about to replace Matt with Moody when he scored those two unforgettable goals against Newcastle. Where would Branfoot be now if he had got the best out of Matt?
