Saint in Paradise Posted 12 September, 2008 Share Posted 12 September, 2008 According to The Echo only 12 people turned up at a meeting called to discuss ways to fight the potential closure of the Ford factory. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/3668012.Ford_staff_meet_to_discuss_how_to_fight_for_the_future_of_plant/

Either a sign that, actually, not as many people give a toss as originally perceived (although I'd have thought as many Ford employees as possible would have tried to attend?) or there's a defeatist attitude going around that no matter what they do it'll close anyway. Saint_clark Posted 12 September, 2008 Share Posted 12 September, 2008 I'd be quite embarrassed if I was one of the 12 who turned up.
hamster Posted 12 September, 2008 Share Posted 12 September, 2008 "This was an 'unoffical' NSSN meeting to discuss possible tactics which took place during shift time. Suggestions discussed will be trickled down through the workforce. An offical T.U mass meeting will be held on Wednesday 17th Sept with about 1100 attending. A further NSSN sponsored meeting will take place Sunday 21st September at the Swaythling Neighbourhood centre. Members of the Public and local community are welcome to attend to show solidarity and support. Whatever you think of Ford Workers, closure of the Plant will have a massive knock on effect in the local community. Pirelli, B.A.T, S.T.C, Caustons the list of manufacturing jobs that have left the area for abroad taking above average wages with them is growing. Soon, the only jobs left will be minimum waged retail positions as the working class is transformed into the 'Serving Class'. Is this what we really want for Southampton? A low wage local economy will impoverish us all." HTH
