Verbal Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 In Watford, parents have just been banned from supervising their own children in council-run playgrounds. If your kids need a push on a swing, they will have to depend on council-appointed (and presumably CRB-vetted?) 'play rangers'. You will have to stand in a designated safe area away from the playground itself. According to Watford's Mayor, Dorothy Thornhill: 'Sadly, in today's climate, you can't have adults walking around unchecked in a children's playground.' After the recent 'scare' of one mother watching over her friend's children for a couple of hours a day, the criminalisation of normal family life continues apace. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/henryporter/2009/oct/28/parents-playground-children

saint lard Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 FFS,if i am with my little boy in a playground I will be the one who supervises him,no-one else. One of the reasons i take him to the playground is for the interaction with him.
Colinjb Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Freewill is no longer neccesary. The government will do all the thinking and care taking you need. Risk is now irrelevant.
Wiltshire Saint Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 About bloody time too. Far too many perverts walking about, hanging around playgrounds, pretending to be parents. It's a sign of a strong government that they are willing to offend one or two people in order to oust the perverts and child abusers. No loony left leadership here, this is strong and decisive. The loony left PC brigade would probably set up viewing areas for the perverts, with free cake and tissues. This is the sort of thing that St George and I will see eye to eye on. badgerx16 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 The council are apparently blaming the new vetting law. Now, if that were the case, ( and I think the new law is an absolute disgrace, insulting to every member of the adult population of this country, and complete waste of time and money ), surely every council in the country would be doing the same thing ? All she is doing is making local politics even more of a laughing stock, ( if that were possible ).

All stems from the yanks and there stupid compensation culture. Speaking as a limpy lefty, I'm stunned by this, quite frankly. And I don't think this is a 'left-right' issue at all. Some of the most basic civil liberties in Britain have been severely eroded by an Orwellian impulse in the government to monitor every single aspect of our lives. But it doesn't just infect the government; the police are at it as well. The Guardian's revelations about how the police simply invented a new category 'domestic extremist' - which has no meaning in British law - to target people who disagree with the authorities, reveals how this 'mission creep' is starting to overwhelm us. TBCH i don't actually think it is a left-right issue either, some small pockets of local councils etc and other school governers seem to go far far OTT about things these days and invent these very stupid rules etc. You would think that the government would intervene in things like this as i am sure it causes civil unrest etc. I couldn't agree more. What amazes me is that we (and I include myself in this despite the fact that I've seen it coming) are letting them get away with it all. +1 Ponts. Thing is we are a country of moaners, but that is all we do, we do not become empowered as a nation. If you look at the french, ok, nobody likes them but fair play in the way that they will not take unwanted change and stand up to what they believe. As a nation we would rather sit back and whinge in the pub and on net forums rather then actually voice disapproval where it matters.

chrisobee Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Sadly absolutely nothing surprises me with Watford Council, their policies on virtually everything are wishy washy at best. According to our wonderful Mayor “The playgrounds are not a meeting place for adults. We have reviewed our procedures, so although previously some parents have stayed with their children at the discretion of our play-workers, this is not something we can continue to do. “There are other places in the town for parents with small children to go.” Like where exactly ? They demolished the only swimming pool years ago. Last I looked the space was still unused though I guess they'll build flat/houses at some point if they haven't started already. They really are pathetic, thankfully little of what they do has any affect on me and I'm truly grateful I don't drive with continual roadworks and parking for many residents very difficult at the best of times. On match days it's nigh on impossible and I strongly supect Watford has more parking wardens per capita than any town or city in the world not to mention thugs who pose as clampers. Sorry, straying off the point but did I mention I'm not a fan of Watford Borough Council !

Sorry, straying off the point but did I mention I'm not a fan of Watford Borough Council ! So where exactly do the parents go whilst their children are being 'cared for' by a complete stranger ? Are they allowed to lean on the fence a few yards away, along with any other tom **** and harriet, or should they go down to the bookies or the pub for a few hours. How many 'carers'are there on duty? Presumably also somebody to sign in and sign out all the kids and check identities of the people collecting the kids, somebody to supervise all this and deal with queries and not to mention the medical staff on standby, as the kids are now the sole responsibility of the council . Scrub that you probably have to sign a waiver accepting responsibility for all injuries, damage and loss of your children whilst under the supervision of the council  Imagination the situation at the park gates ... oh daddy why can't you come and push me on the swings like you did with my big brother and sister? Sorry darling the council know whats best.

Presumably they want one parent at least from each family to drop everything else and become a teaching assistant so they can keep in touch with what their own kids are doing. From that link: "We have simply reiterated that the fully supervised play sessions we run at our adventure playgrounds - Harebreaks and Harwoods - are for children aged 5 -15 years old, and that parents/carers of children and young people who visit these play sessions are not able to stay on site with their children during play sessions. This reduces any potential risks to children and ensures they are able to play freely."

No, of course they were not misquoted, how often do you hear that when it suits? Pretty damned hard to misquote a statement as simple and blatant as this: “There are other places in the town for parents with small children to go.” There are other places the Council can go as well but I'm sure I can leave it to everyone to decide what they might be !
