Tac-tics Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 I do realise I'm running a risk of having this thread removed, however can someone answer me this.... After seeing them beat Norwich in the dying seconds due to the most random **** up and now seeing they beat Bristol 'Passwing wind' Rovers 4-0 at the memorial, why do I find my hate for them is doubling by the results? Do I fear their the only real threat to Saints? Is it only me? I seriously would nearly have them on par with Pompey, I really ****ing hate them, their fans, their players and just Leeds; anyone else share this? St Landrew Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 It's an ancient hate, starting from the Don Revie era. You're just picking up the old vibes. I won't remove the thread. I might move it though. Let me think about it.
Tac-tics Posted 27 October, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 October, 2009 It is a strange one the only ever thing I've been around for was the 4-3 comeback, I mean I hated spuds when Deno, Hoddle and Gorman switched but I really would spitefully enjoy us battering Leeds. revolution saint Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Now as far as I'm concerned the first thing they can do for me is chuck all their caps, all their medals and all the their pots and pans in the bin because they've not won any of them fairly. they've won 'em all by bloody cheating. Whitey Grandad Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 They were renowned for using all sorts of 'unsporstmanlike' tactics to slow the game down and stop their opponents playing football. It was organised thuggery combined with every trick in the book to waste time and break up play. All in my humble opinion, of course.
Micky Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 I once helped to organise 2 training matches between Leeds and Harrogate Railway, amongst those playing were Gary Speed, Gary Mac, Rod Wallace, Lee Chapman and a certain WGS as well. Have to say that they were all great to me (perhaps the fact that I was hosting them had something to do with it), but as a result I actually have a bit of a soft spot for Leeds Utd. opthomps Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 It was interesting to hear about Brian Clough going there, having read his autobiographies and such like. He really hated them and their previous regime, and lasted about 90 days in that job. I think they are hated by most football fans hence 'dirty leeds' being synonomous with them to this day. Lets B Avenue Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 As I dont expect us to catch them, I am now in the bizzare situation of wanting them to win these matches, so as to bug ger up the oppo. Tonight was a case in point as we don't want The Gasheads getting any confidence before the Friday Night Revenge Tour.
eelpie Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Leeds, Huddersfield or Colchester, and Saints will go up. Trust me. Why? Because we four teams will have scored most goals and will have the best defensive records come the end of the season. So we will be able to enjoy watching and hating Leeds (and Skates too) next year to our hearts content. Joy of Joys.

derry Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Leeds were a fantastic team at their peak. Badger Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Leeds have always been one of the most hated teams in the country going back to the seventies but to be honest pleased they beat Rovers last night. Leed will go up but it keeps Rovers within distance of ourselves as one of the top 6 I think it predates the 70's,as I recall them being pretty hated in the 1960's although that was the same group of players that you refer to. I'm pretty sure I read in 'Dell Diamond' that Ted Bates had a thorough dislike for them.He also had a dislike for Liverpool and Shankly if I remember correctly. The hatred was of course intensified by that defeat at Elland Road, and the way Coleman et al used to salivate over Leeds and Revie at every opportunity as they did with Liverpool and more recently the mancs. Had a few mates who supported Leeds whilst I was at Uni so my view of the club for a while thawed. No longer under any misgivings about Leeds although I can share their view of ManU. The fact it is the sort of fixture that I would avoid taking my kids to just about justifies why anyone should dislike Leeds. Good point about them taking points of others though. Used to love those number tags they had on their socks, had some as a kid and also always got Paul Reiney in the old football coins we used to collect. . opthomps Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 ridsdale was a baffoon as well. i'm led to believe when they signed seth johnson from derby for 7 million where he was on about 10k a week they offered him 27k immediately. Johnson was so amazed that he sat there in silence, gobsmacked at the massive increase. Ridsdale took Johnsons silence as meaning that he was unhappy at the amount, so then piped up, OK 37k a week, but thats as much as we will pay you! Johnsons time there was a disaster, he would have signed to play for 15 or 20k a week, and this story was indicative of that crazy regime. I am really looking forward to playing them this season now, lets hope we can win, should be a goodun
shurlock Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Was growing up around Dean Court when they famously kicked off in Bournemouth (May 1990) - still remember them giving it to anyone and everyone, even young kids like me. Much less the violence, its the swagger, entitlement and utter lack of humour or generosity that qualifies them as ****s. Man U supporters have taken over the mantle in recent years - last year's FA cup fixture was a vivid reminder of that. How they laughed at being able to fill the ground with plastics. hutch Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 I'm actually looking forward to the game at Elland Road in December. That's the first real opportunity, in my ipinion, for us to see just how far we've progressed. And there would be no real disgrace, or setback, if we lost up there. Whatever you think of them, there are only 2 proper PL-standard clubs in L1 at the moment, and Leeds is the other one.

No doubt, the Charlton and Norwich games beforehnd will be a good test, especially the Charlton game as we'll be able to compare the progress we've made since the trip to the Valley (which has coincided with our run). But Elland Road and 20,000+ irrate yorkshiremen is especially tasty. I still remember our last visit to Elland Road (2006) where we walloped them 3-0. Easily one of the highlights of the season (in addition to the 1-0 at SMS which practically relegated them). For the satisfaction that those wins bring, wouldn't want them to be anything but Dirty Leeds

Tom28 Posted 28 October, 2009 Share Posted 28 October, 2009 Yeah, agree, horrible club, always have been but I would quite happily see them run away with the title this year, winning every game except against us. The more points they take, the less there are for everyone else, and the more chance we have of making the playoffs. Here's to Charlton doing the same thing too...! And Norwich. And I'll quite happily take 4th, 5th or 6th place, confident that we'll do the business in the playoffs.

Now please remember that we were both well into our fifties when the stewards outside Elland Road took away her bottle of water 'in case she threw it at the players' and the police inside the ground were sticking a video camera up our noses and filming us and you can understand why she hates Leeds too. She was so furious that I had to stop her from whacking the copper with her handbag.
