The Ying Tong Song by the Goons?

Hey Hammy - you must pop round sometime, the Tortoises are out of their summer hibernation thingy they do. I've been watching Dexter and understand now how young kids get traumatised and need to revisit this sort of stuff.

I even think I know someone with a large female Russkie friend/problem who could help out, hope you won't mind if I pop down to Abu Dhabi while you 4 are getting it together though, too weird for my tastes

My first ever 45. I'm walking backwards to Christmas on the B side iirc?

I do hope that you can back up my little tale of the tortoise atack gaffer, as you will k now just how feverishly they can tuck their food away in preparation for winter hibernation. We used to spend hour upon hour rubbing olive oil into their shells when they woke up in the spring too.

People also do not believe me when i tell them that tortoises can climb wire fences, we had one habitual ascappe who would climb our 4 foot fence and just drop down on the other side.

My litle bruv has loads, all named after man U players, even more reason for me to hate the little ****ers.

Also The Papa Waigo adaptable BananaBoat Song by Harry Belafonte.

Wayyyyyyyyygo, Waaaaaayyyyyyyyyygo.

Papa comes and he scores some goals.

(Alternative version) Papa runs and gets caught offside :D

We sort of got adopted by the Tortoises, starting about 9 years ago. he was tiny but a mean ball of energy, he could climb the steps into the kitchen and would bumble around the ceramic tile floor all skiddy like. So we called him Rambo. He even comes to you if you call his name (as long as it isn't snooze time (they snooze more than cats do that's for sure)

Found one all lost on the beach about 2 years later, bigger but he was a bit the worse for wear, so he moved in, climbing all over the place, he was named Razor.

The final one we found in our driveway about 6 years ago, he was of course called Ruddock. Ruddock disappeared from an enclosed Garden with a 6 ft surrounding wall, we heard later he was adopted by the school next door so he tunneled down 2 feet to get under the foundations, travelled about a metre and dug his way to the top again.

Rambo & Razor woke up about 3 weeks ago, they currently demolish 1/3 of a lettuce, a local grown cucumber and 1/4 an apple a day. The GF moved in with her Persian cat, he was full of beans and Mr Inquisitve, trying to play with them when they woke up, He obviously took a Ninja style whack as he now hides in the bush out the way when the lads march up for their breakfast and lunch.

On the old songs, About 8 years ago now, the Friday Brunch to Karaoke to Party started at the old Highland Lodge (now Chi).

The party was ALWAYS started with Ernie & his Milkcart and good old Adge Cutler always followed soon after....

We tended to go once a month just to get away from Country & Western Friday night - as EoA already explained

Ohhhh we should have a 'what was your first record purchase' thread!

Mine was 'Only the Lonely' by Roy Orbison :)

But I do remember a bunch of us 6th formers miming to 'The Ying Tong Song' at the end of term concert. I vaguely remember I wore a colander on my head!

I know the feeling Gaffer, everytime my brother even mentionshis tortoises my eyes water. And they certainly are not herbivores, I have the (mental) scars to prove it. That was infact a true story, honestly.

My mate was doing his DJ Shaft reunion gig tonight, sort of a cheese night. It was also his birthday, but none of us let him know we were there because of that

It took him a while to say WTF on mike as we organised everyone in the pub to fill in the song request forms based on their memories, he finally twigged when he got the 3rd request for the Mike Sammes singers..

Funniest part was when they brought in his birthday cake, the bar manager had downloaded the link from You-Tube and actually played Sing Something Simple....

ROFL

For those who know this place DJ Shaft was Dave Crane in an afro wig bigger than he is..

Evil but oh so funny - thanks for the idea guys a real hoot

lol well it was a bit lastminute.com in terms of everyone getting together to go, and it is a tad far for a day trip (and last time I looked Flybe don't quite stretch to 8 hours in their spin dryers

But the Rugby 7's are coming, the clans are gathering and although Chez DP is now overbooked, (heck even double booked the sofa!)there are still some floors around town for crashing on. Downside is Bud, Amstel Light, Heineken or Strongbow only on sale at the vennue, but with 10 hours of entertainment per day sort of who cares really

Wow.

Dubai FINALLY got Indie, only 10 years let but hey.

Some op ooop north decided this would be the place to run a "3 day festival"

Well, compared to Glasto - I drank cider, but had to sit on the grass. They had 275.000 we struggled to reach 5,000.

Dubai types just don't know much about the whole genre, a few of us saddos go to "Indie Nights" but otherwise the radio is just non stop R&B, Hip Hop and a few fillers

Anyway I had always pictured going to Glasto and finding a band playing the type of music I liked that I had sort of nearly heard of. Tonight, the 3 support acts (who are ALL well known back home did that)

The Futureheads - wow sort of punk revisited, Doves - how did I know ALl their songs in their set? Even the Farm Altogether now. What a really great night, to hell with the fact the sound system didn't really work until midway through The Farm, I was Liking This.

TRhen came the Headline Act, what can I say, I loved them when they were "big" I'd seen them twice in the same venue so I was wondering WHY? Then they came on and did their stuff. I have to say, Coldplay were the benchmark for awesomeness, Kings of Leon were Superb, but FFS The Human League? What an absolutely GREAT set. Over 50's and under 21's just singing along like some weird karaoke night. Forget 19C's religous thread, that was shocking, how could a bunch of old f*rts blow away some of the best Indie bands on the circuit. What a great night and what a shock, they may not be cool these days but if they come down your way, get the Throat lozenges, ignore the missus and turn up and just damn well sing. Wonderful

ps. Sorry to our normal readers, I just posted that to p*ss off EricofArabia as he couldn't go.......

Tomorrow The Courteeners, Ocean Colour Scene & Happy Mondays, they are gonna HAVE to be effing good to beat ol' Phil Oakley

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest you armpits :D

Enjoy it ... you twisting my melon man .... caaaaaaallllll the copssssssss :D Hope your head is better and throat ready for some more singalongs.

Back on track ....gigs at The Gaumont in the 70's .... Yes went on 2 of the 3 nights, Genesis - Lamb lies down on Broadway Tour with Peter Gabriel in numerous cossie changes, Supertramp, The Police. The Jam. All brilliant. Amongst the dross was Santana supported by Earth Wind and Fire. They had about 50 people on stage, revolving drumkits and guitar players flying off up to the ceiling on harnesses. On comes Carlos and does a very passable impersonation of Val Doonican sat on a stool

Top gigs though were The Clash at The Top Rank and Nils Lofgren at The Uni.

Went to most of the above, except Police, who I had seen several times in London but couldn't get a ticket for the Gaumont, once "Walking on the Moon" had got to no.1.

Nils Lofgren (supported by Joan Armatrading) was a great night. Keef don't go and stay off that trampet.

The F##king Archers... when I used to stay with my Grandparents during the holidays when I was a kid they would always tune into this show. There was nothing worse than having to sit through that crap when it was raining outside and I couldn't go out and had to stay in the sitting room with a book or a comic while that played out in the background.

Arragh... now got the theme tune stuck in my head too!! I'd forgotten about it until this thread.

The Japanese water torture effect of this as a kid from both my parents and grandparents, broke me into submission to the point where on a Sunday morning I am quite happy cooking then eating breakfast listening to the omnibus hearing about Eddie Grundy's next mad cap idea.

But then when you grew up with only 3 TV channels, listening to the radio was the only other entertainment option, radio like the Archers and other radio stories certainly made you use your imagination to picture the scenes, unlike in todays world where you are spoon fed images from over 200 TV channels (most of it crap) that leaves little to the imagination; my kids persist with Disney channel and the zero reality pap that it dishes out, it inspires nothing whatsoever.
