Petersfield Saint Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Maik Taylor a far better keeper than his erratic replacement. +1 - not his fault though that Dave Jones seemed to take an instant dislike to him
SW11_Saint Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 Been reading the threads on Saga and Surman, and it got me thinking of players that used Saints as "a window for a better club", but were actually playing their best football at Saints, and shouldn't have moved on, but did because of the money. Hassan Kachloul springs to mind as well as Kevin Davies. Can't agree on Kevin Davies - he wasn't getting a regular place and I am not sure his time at Bolton would register with him (or anyone else) as a "bad move"! Not sure it quite fits your point, but years ago I was always banging on about making Matt Oakley our captain, and building the team around him (post MLT). Seems to have worked well for him and Derby and Leicester. Always a very underrated player imo, and never quite given the credit he deserved by many of our fans (a la Davies and Magilton).
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 4 November, 2009 Posted 4 November, 2009 James Beattie springs to my mind, he hasn't exactly set the world alight since he left, and definately had his best days at St Marys.
david in sweden Posted 5 November, 2009 Posted 5 November, 2009 I agree totally. He used to own the left hand side of St Mary's at times. He was a joy to watch. Too much, too soon. Re : Bale and a few others mentioned here...they went because ....that was back in the days when we needed the money ! However, being a " star " in a mediocre CCC side (which is what we were then,) doesn't qualify you to be a star in the Prem. He just found his level.
Pugwash Posted 6 November, 2009 Posted 6 November, 2009 Just on SSN - Pele having trial with FALKIRK!!??
alpine_saint Posted 6 November, 2009 Posted 6 November, 2009 One Size One of the biggest reasons for our first relegation, combined with the loss of Svensson. Lundekvam just gave up and went AWOL.
