Pancake Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 ...like a county for example, how can you describe it? For example, I would be happy to day something or someone from Cornwall is Cornish; a person from Devon is Devonian; someone from Kent could be Kentish. What terms can be used for the other counties though? And major cities too. Sotonian work well, IMHO, for Southamptoners...
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 Those from Portsmouth are C**ts
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 Circumventing the swear filter? Circumventing would be where the whole word was in clear text. Still, this is the Lounge so I'll defer. Devonian Bristolian Liverpudlian Mancunian Glaswegian Londoner Lancastrian Cumbrian bored now...
Kadeem Hardison Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 Actually it depends on what side of the Medway as to whether you are Kentish man or a man of Kent (Kentish maiden or maid of Kent for women). Novacastrian is a nice one. Portmuthian is also a pleasanter sounding word.
Pancake Posted 27 October, 2009 Author Posted 27 October, 2009 Keep em coming. Essex, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Herefordshire, Oxford, York and Newcastle needed please.

Ponty Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 I like Leodensian for those from Leeds. It's quite poetic (relative to the city).
RedAndWhite91 Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 Sotonian work well, IMHO, for Southamptoners... Course it works well, it's the actual word used. Noun Sotonian (plural Sotonians) 1. Someone from Southampton

chrisobee Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 I like Leodensian for those from Leeds. It's quite poetic (relative to the city). Certainly more poetic than "loiner" which is the term generally used locally in Leeds !!
