Ponty Posted 26 October, 2009 Share Posted 26 October, 2009 They all suit different people. Go have a lay on a few - and don't forget to try a waterbed.
tpbury Posted 26 October, 2009 Share Posted 26 October, 2009 Let me not be the first to say something like, 'who cares so long as you don't get knee burn'. I would go for pocket sprung, slightly firmer than medium. We spent £800 on such a one and it was very good.
hamster Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 I am told that a pocket sprung matterss with a memory foam topper is the best combination. If you go to try some out do not look at the price tags, do a 'blind' test. And do nt allow one of the assistants to show you around is also my advice. Kick off your shoes and lay on a few beds, score them out of 10, then check the prices. Also, if you have a partner, you can bet that unless you are both the same height and weight as each other, you will have to settle for a compromise, so lay it on really thick with her/him that your back is killing you, thus you get to choose the bed. Gigersaint Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Have a look at "Hand made beds" based in Millbrook I think... I WANT another one. They make the comfiest beds I have ever slept in and otherwise. I lost the bed in my Divorce several years ago as my Ex wanted to keep it... they were that good if that is anything to go by. Whether her new bloke she is now married has kept up to the standards she expected in the same said bed is another matter.
St Landrew Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 They all suit different people. Go have a lay on a few - and don't forget to try a waterbed. But don't keep an open penknife in your backside pocket when you do so.
angelman Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 we got ours at http://www.andsotobed.co.uk/ - cost an absolute fortune (think it was £1600) but worth every penny. 2 three foot single mattresses zipped up the middle. means that i can get into bed without the wife hitting the ceiling. also means that we can have different firmnesses. they have a factory outlet over at Bridport. well worth spending as much as you can, seeing that you spend so much of your life in bed. also getting a decent nights kip is good for you and so much easier in a good bed. chocco boxo Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Heard this the other day, two things never buy chaep, mattress and shoes. As you spend more time in those than anything else.
Johnny Bognor Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Also, if you have a partner, you can bet that unless you are both the same height and weight as each other, you will have to settle for a compromise, so lay it on really thick with her/him that your back is killing you, thus you get to choose the bed. Voila If you get a Sleep to Live mattress, it is made in two halves, so that each person gets the right mattress for their weight/profile.
sotonjoe Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 i have a used one you can buy. it's got some springs which poke you in the back and a rather exotic range of stains.
Trader Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Jensen mattresses (with topper) are magic - pricey though. John Lewis sell them (or did anyway) HTH

Isn't that uncomfortable if you lie across the middle?
miserableoldgit Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 We have had a "Memory Foam" mattress (not a topper) for over a year and it is excellent. It is worth trying various types in the shop but the trouble is that they all take a few nights to get used to. Doctoroncall Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 I have a tempur mattress which you do tend to get warmer by, but then you don't get the bed bugs!
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 October, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 October, 2009 Think i am plumping for a 5ft Sping and memory foam mattress with climate control technology (apparantly works). But then it is f*cking comfy. Atleast in the shops !!.
