SaintKenny Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 I am looking for insurance on a Fiat Punto Grande, have tried Confused.com & GoCompare but the results they bring in arn't that great. Could anyone recommend car insurers for a first time driver?

thesaint sfc Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 Money supermarket.com Direct Line worked out best for me - but it depends on where you live so you may find someone slightly better.
whu Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 After trying confused.com i had a phonecall and ended up being put thru to a place called The Policy Shop, they turned out to be very good, they specialise in higher risk drivers i think
Benj540 Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 Bell Bell are excellent if you can afford to pay yearly, as when you want to pay monthly they wack it up massively.
Son of Bob Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 Bell have always been cheap for me. Marks and Spencer are good as well and throw in RAC cover.
Michelle Posted 5 August, 2008 Share Posted 5 August, 2008 I'm just looking at quotes for mine now, due for renewal in four weeks. Been with Elephant for two years, went through confused.com t'other day to see what was about, and Halifax came up £40 cheaper than my renewal, with the extra bonus of a possible £60 cashback. That'll do me.
CabbageFace Posted 6 August, 2008 Share Posted 6 August, 2008 Is it a new car or second hand? If new try Fiat themselves they may give you one years free or something. If not i have been with Direct Line for 8 years, and they have always offered the best value for money. I.e. Free Vandalism cover (claims not affected), claims not affected if hit by uninsured tosspot, Free Coutersey car, Breakdown cover, legal fees, free windscreen chip repairs. stevegrant Posted 6 August, 2008 Share Posted 6 August, 2008 There's no hard-and-fast "cheapest" provider, it really can be completely random. In the 7 years I've been driving, I've been insured by: CIS (now Co-Operative) Tesco Direct Line Bell Elephant.co.uk My premium will be cut by about 40% when I renew in November as I'll be 25 with 8 years' protected no-claims
SNSUN Posted 6 August, 2008 Share Posted 6 August, 2008 I'm with Admiral, and they do a 10 month scheme which is good for first time buyers. For each ten months, you get a year's no claims bonus, so you'd have 3 years no claims bonus in just 2 and a half years. (Assuming of course that you don't claim...) That's exactly what I've done with elephant (who are part of Admiral anyway!) for the last couple of years, but the renewal price is a bit silly this year, so think I might call it quits with them. Which is fine as long as your total no-claims bonus after doing that isn't then longer than the period that you've either had a licence or been entitled to one. I'll have 8 years' no-claims in November when my current policy expires, but if I did an accelerator that took two months off to increase the NCD by a year within 10 months, none of the online insurance quotes would work for me as they'd all say "your NCD is longer than the period for which you've been entitled to a driving licence". bridge too far Posted 7 August, 2008 Share Posted 7 August, 2008 For the past two years I've found that when my renewal quote comes in, if I hunt around and get a lower quote, my insurance company usually matches it. Mind you, being old and female, my quotes are always pence rather than pounds anyway. FYI Direct Line do not feature on any of the comparison web-sites. See, now mine doesn't do that - but then that'll be because: a) I didn't start driving until I was 25 b) I put the date I got my provisional (years ago) rather than when I passed 6 months ago. Every little helps and all that.

Michelle Posted 20 August, 2008 Share Posted 20 August, 2008 You do that for insurance quotes? Oops, somebody's driving uninsured and could possibly be prosecuted for pecuniary advantage. Damn, I've just checked (as I've finally got around to sorting out my renewal/replacement) and I do actually have the correct date on there. Must have just been a previous quote I tried it on. Therefore all quotes I have on confused.com, where I've had a full licence for 6 months and two years no claims, are perfectly legit and prices are valid. There are some insurers that won't quote due to the licence length and NCB length, but most have. Ah well. Who cares. I still have cheaper insurance: Elephant renewal price = £401.92 Esure new policy price = £279.40 Go me.
