The "Missing Posters" Appreciation Thread

Many have passed this way. Some have shown us their ability to adopt an internet persona par excellence. Some have shown us what Ben The Legends they were.

May we use this to mourn our departed and debate how the evil Blofeld managed to infiltrate the Mods and ensure that balanced opinion was replaced by barbed one liners (and eyebrow movement in the Moore era)

God Bless UP for his ability, yes, at least once in his 18,976,432 posts he did concede a debating point.

To Navyred who we beat to death for his kids not being ready and everything being their fault when we all really knew who it was.

And of course to the magnificent Mods who allowed our own versions of the Asbo earners to reach the platforms only normally afforded to Nick Griffin.

Why doesn't anyone say why UP left, after all he won't know, he's left?

I got his PM which was a farewell with no real detail so not too sure myself.

I found him a useful ally in the Lowe debates, so just as well he is gone (Lowe that is, not UP)

I miss the UP vs GM (where is he these days?) and the UP vs NC spats. It livened up the main board.

I also liked him. I appreciated that he sided with me on the debate about last season when we both argued against people when they said that Lowe had no other choice than to do what he did. It's a shame because he was on here forever.

A goood post Phil

Some of us worry that the forum dies a little every day, as I think you do.

Perhaps ot was the ITK days that started the rot, but I do think it is pretty darned important that it keeps going. Times are changing, care with the legacy is needed by all of us and the Mods.

Slowly more people are coming back, 6 pages on a post match thread is unusual and people have sensible opinions to post.

Also, you & I must be pretty high up the Skate Hate list these days for calling it as it was so was motivated to stop everyone else spoiling our fun on THAT thread. Most fun we've had since the takeover thread days!

UP was an opinionated a*se at times, and could often snap, but if everyone was the same the world would be a damned dull place, hell the change in Alpine this past month has been almost a religious experience :o

Where the hell is Bugenheimlicker? The chap from the forum match who flew in from some foreign country.

seriously, the last I heard of the chap was that he went off into the Southampton nightscene with Fitzhugh, JustMike and Phil.

Seriously, serous, he was a really nice chap and he just disappeared. Anyone heard from him since that night?

:D:D:D Was meant to show some smirking grinning things.

Nobody impressed anyone more than the guy who flew over from Norway for the forum match. I just blagged a freebie, that guy just did it under his own steam AND drank Hamster under the table.

I miss Saint Lee, Saint David, Life Long Saint and Help me Rhonda. (oh and don't forget Keith)

Oh they were all around not so long ago. HMR seemed to have developed a few issues that made 19C seem like MLT's biggest fan

Luckily we will never hear their like again.

There are lots of contributor that I miss, some made me laugh, some made me cry, some made me smile others made me frown, occasionally some made me sit up and think. I have never felt the need to hit the 'ignore' button on anybody posting here, even though our views might be at opposite ends of the polar spectrum, or fisticuffs had been threatened during the course of the (ehem) 'debate'.

I suppose, a bit like radio presenters - who you never really get to see - I try to put a face to the poster, and then try to build up some sort of impression of the person with whom I am sharing this space. I try to guess their age and profession etc. I happen to know with one particular poster I got this wildly wrong - but there you go, the 'voice' behind the radio show is rarely the 'face' that you expected - is it?

I liked Um, found Navys stuff intersting, dispaired of Stanley, hated Tommac and laughed my ass off at Life Long Saint - but the bottom line was - they all (in thier own ways) contributed to this forum. Anybody remember Roman - worked in the TV industry I believe - always made well grounded and informed points, whatever happened to him?

I've sparred with a few during my time here - unfortunately I never get to games, (shyte) so have to rely on the few televised oportunities to make any sort of real infomed opinion, and as a result my options for credible debate are a little limited.

That said I have enjoyed bantering with many here, Delldays, Alpine, The Nicks, Phil and Derry (more width please) - so long may it continue. I also love to read the very quick wit of a few here, Benjii, FTF, Hypo and Verbal all spring to mind - I tend to stear clear of giving these guys ammo.

There are so many on here that contribute and it is unfortuate when somebody decides that they no long want to 'hang out'. But that said - I also think that life is too short to let what somebody, whom I have never met, nor am I likely to meet, influence whether or not I post on an internet forum. As I said - I have not (nor am I likely to) ever put a poster on ignore - I am thick skinned enough to let that which I do not agree with wash over me, whilst enjoying those posts from the 'usual suspects'.

Keep posting everyone - thanks.

Thanks Micky, and I share many of those sentiments.

BTW, Roman has been away making a film for Channel 4. Goes out 9pm tomorrow (Monday) I think.

Who is the fairly recent poster who found out that they have a terminal illness? Are they still posting? I'd like to know how they are getting on if anyone has any info.

Snowballs.

I was going to ask who this was as well. Snowballs, real regular here, good contributions too. Like Hypo, would really like to know how he is doing if anybody has any news.

IIRC, there was a TV presenter Saints fan who was really poorly a while back, not sure if he was a poster but I think someone said he lived around Alresford. I am sure that I googled him.

Ah my mistake it's snowballs2

Snowballs2 was a retired accountant who did live locally and then moved north to be with / near his daughter in the Chester area. Unfortunately, he developed a brain tumour and that could be witnessed as the quality and length of his posts diminished. I think it's fair to say we had a healthy disregard for eachother apart from one person involved in Saints recent past and we struck up a friendship via pms for a while prior to his illness as a result.

Funny enough he had a link with Um Pahars as UP's dad was one of his old number crunchers if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, I don't have the pms now but Snowballs2 had UP's card well marked.

Forums are about opinions and not some cosy club where posters can consider themselves immune from rule breaking provided they always tow the populist line or have a well known profile. I enjoy reading the views of everyone apart from the sanctimonious few whose posts tell us more about their own jet set lives or that their views are backed by people inside the club. Perhaps UP left because with the new regime he simply became a number like the rest of us.

What happened to Daren Wheeler? I hope his absence doesn't mean his Mum has passed away?

Sorry?? It's a genuine question, the same as your's about Snowballs2.

Yes but considering your history with Darren and knowing how he feels about you mentioning his mother, it sounds very much like you are being sarcastic or deliberately provocative. Far better to just delete that line because you know the reaction you will get from it.

'Sounds like'? How? Any connatation you or others put on what is a genuine question is of your own making. A thread about missing posters, Daren is a notable absentee and i was wondering if his mother has passed on. Provacative? Or merely an attempt to understand how the land lies to ensure obvious sympathies are observed when / if he does return?

Maybe to you but I can guarantee that Darren will not see it that way and it would almost certainly end in an argument. I'm suggesting that you remove the comment to try and avoid one. TBH it's up to you what you do but this is just a bit of helpful advice to stop any unpleasant situations which I would hope you would be keen to avoid

Darren and yourself have argued in the past because he believed rightly or wrongly that you were making provocative comments about his mother and her illness. You know that he still thinks that and he has asked you not to bring the subject up. You then create your post above mentioning his mother. However sincerely you meant the comment you must surely realise that it isn't going to go down well. Whether you meant it as an insult or not is not really the issue but you know it's going to cause friction therefore maybe it would be best if it was removed.
