Ponty Posted 25 October, 2009 Posted 25 October, 2009 Isn't it Embrace with "Ashes"? Terrible song by a terrible band.
Colinjb Posted 25 October, 2009 Posted 25 October, 2009 Isn't it Embrace with "Ashes"? Terrible song by a terrible band. Correct, but harsh mate! I do like that song and the band have had some good work.
Ponty Posted 25 October, 2009 Posted 25 October, 2009 Correct, but harsh mate! I do like that song and the band have had some good work. Ok, erm... A generic and formulaic song by a rather bland, short-lived band?
Al de Man Posted 25 October, 2009 Posted 25 October, 2009 I saw Embrace at Westonbirt Arboretum and they were bad, or rather, Danny's voice was terrible. I don't know if he was recovering from an illness or something but he couldn't hold a note at all. Have a . It was as painful. Thankfully, the main reason for buying the tickets was to let the missus see the support act, as she'd missed them (twice) at the Joiners due to exams.
Baj Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 short-lived band 12 years? I first saw them in 1997 supported by Gomez, they were ace.
Rory Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Terrible song by a terrible band. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, eh Ponty lad?
Ponty Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 12 years? I first saw them in 1997 supported by Gomez, they were ace. They're not still going though, are they? Last I heard Danny was DJing in Ibiza.
Ponty Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, eh Ponty lad? Absoblumminglutely. It's what makes the world go around.
Baj Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 They're not still going though, are they? Last I heard Danny was DJing in Ibiza. So they are short lived why?
Ponty Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 So they are short lived why? Really? We're going to debate the longevity of Embrace? Ok. They debuted an ok album, considering the era they were working in, but they were quite quickly exposed as a studio band. Live performances and live studio sessions were not well received so they began to drift out of the public consciousness. Fortunately for the band Danny had a good friend in Chris Martin, who penned Gravity for them, as well as giving direction and assistance on enough material to produce another album. This was well received but, yet again, they were shown up when a live performance from Leeds was broadcast on Radio 1. It was unbearably bad - vocally. After that Danny did some producing then went off the Ibiza to forge a career as a DJ. What he's doing now, I've no idea, but in my mind their success as Embrace was pretty short-lived. Even the Arctic Monkeys have done more and they've only been around for 5 minutes.
Ponty Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Anyway, if "short-lived" is contentious I'll go back to my original choice of adjective, "terrible".
Rattlehead Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Absoblumminglutely. It's what makes the world go around. Angular momentum IMO.
Al de Man Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Angular momentum IMO. Mike Oldfield's latest album?
BadgerBadger Posted 26 October, 2009 Author Posted 26 October, 2009 Thanks and for what it's worth I like the song in it's montage context - even Rocky had a montage
