Smirking_Saint Posted 26 October, 2009 Share Posted 26 October, 2009 I think the Charlton fans might disagree with you about the eye for a player but his signings so far with us have impressed I don't think we can compare the two appointments TBF. Some managers just do not work at certain clubs, others do. I agree, at the first appointment i was excited, then reading the charlton fans experiances with him at the helm a little worried but now i believe he was the best option and still is. The man has proven he is a good manager, and also his major criticism at charlton was the players he bought in. Now though it has proven a different kettle of fish. Before the start of the season us fans were crying out for a target man, a goal scorer, a midfield general, two decent centre backs and some pace. Pardew has done exactly that and has also made sure we have new dimensions ready from the bench that i believe to be very strong. The man has done no wrong in my eyes. Victor Posted 26 October, 2009 Share Posted 26 October, 2009 Surely, though not genius, it is a bit unfair to dismiss it as 'not rocket science' to have brought in the 'good players' he has brought in. Most were released by their clubs or were available because their existing manager did not rate them, Lambert excepted. Pardew deserves credit for identifying them as the players he needed. I like his style - he seems smart, focussed and in control. We may not get many quips from him, but at least we will be spared Dame Alex's embarrassing histrionics (tho' her paddys are very amusing!). stinhk Posted 27 October, 2009 Share Posted 27 October, 2009 ...... Any fool can spend money , spending it wisely is the mark of a good scouting network and a management team that really know their business . Whether they can find good players at a higher (bigger money) level is a question for the future maybe . Yes, I think next summer could be a very interesting time to be a Saints fan. If we are still in L1, AP should have a very good idea of what needs to be done to get promoted, being champions should be a realistic target. If we have managed to get promoted this term, how will AP 'churn' the team to make us competitive in CCC? I would say most managers can build one competitive team, but for me, the mark of a good manager is to have the ability and appetite to rebuild your team a number of times. Questions for the future indeed and I'm certainly enjoing watching things develop right now. Beats being Premier League also-rans?
