Mr X Posted 24 October, 2009 Posted 24 October, 2009 I think the deal is only for a month, so we'll be losing him soon Would he be pusuaded to stay if Markus was to open his chequebook? how much would reading realistically want?
RonManager Posted 24 October, 2009 Posted 24 October, 2009 Players have the ultimate power - remember Kenwyne going on strike?
Bailey Posted 24 October, 2009 Posted 24 October, 2009 Antonio was first-class today, but lets not get too carried away. He's definitely improving, but he's still a very raw talent at the minute. Initially, I think we're best off extending his loan until the end of the season and then reviewing the situation come May. Top draw peformance today though, make no mistake about it!
SaintDonkey Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 The guy is our best option down the right when we play 4-4-2 and we should be moving heaven and earth to get Antonio's loan extended until January at least. Unless you're a visiting Reading fan in which case he's crap.
CB Fry Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Remember Pards played him down a lot when he signed him, going out of his way to say he isn't a superstar, he's raw and he might be an impact sub. Well an impact sub he definitely is - I saw him at Oldham and he was useful and scared them for fifteen minutes. He gives teams something new to worry about in the last quarter of a game. Think that is his role for now. I think he wouldn't be much use to Reading if he went back tomorrow - he needs to be kicked up in the air and "found out" a bit by seasoned pros in this division to aid his development. And we don't need to sign him yet - just extend his loan until Christmas. I love his Beardsley wobbly legs routine though.
imported_slough_saint Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 But will he still play once McClaggon is fit? I think we need to see make this kind of impact consistently and over the full 90 minutes. I suspect he was drifting in Reading reserves but Wally Downes knew his potential and recommended Ap to take a look. Unless he really sets the world alight in the next few weeks i can't see Reading wanting to recall him anytime soon.

The problem is more that if we don't extend the loan he's going back in a week anyway (I think Orient is scheduled to be his last game?). McClaggon might be the long term answer - but we need a short term one that lasts longer than Saturday
the saint in winchester Posted 26 October, 2009 Posted 26 October, 2009 Sounds like asking for the loan to be extended doesn't commit us too long, and it gives us a chance to get McLaggon back and operational. I see from a post today on the Reading Hobnobs forum one poster reckons an offer to buy would be smiled on. But for now a loan extension for another month or two would be good.
Arizona Posted 27 October, 2009 Posted 27 October, 2009 Can we please adopt the nickname "Bonio". The idea of a footballer being named after dog food just makes me laugh for some reason. Reminds me of the good old days in the early '80s when we had Steve Williams and Brian Eukanuba in the side.
