WGS to be next 'Boro boss

he'll find managing Boro a lot more taxing than Celtic.

I think Wee Gordon might get found out.

He will inherit a decent squad who with a bit of fitness should do well. It is not a tough assignment with a chairman who holds on to you even though you oversee a disaster.

I do agree he may get found out due to his choice of players though.

Is that a step up from Champion League football?

Yes but where his he going to get the chance to manage another CL team? Rangers? He isn't going to go there. Man U? Arsenal? Liverpool? Chelsea? Citeh? Villa? Even Everton? He hasn't a cat in hell's chance of landing any of those jobs. That leaves moving abroad to a minor football league and I don't think Strach is up for that.

Taking Boro up and re-establishing them as a Premier League team is as good a challenge as any.

I reckon he could comfortably land a job with a Tottenham, Aston Villa or an Everton as it goes. Only problem is none of those look likely to become available any time soon. However football is a funny old game as we all know so he may be up for playing the waiting game...

I'm still not entirely convinced that he'll sign for them as it goes...

Cooper to take charge of the team for the weekend...

Why the delay if WGS is free and available? Reckon they may be looking at other options...

At a tremendous push he could get the Everton job if Moyes had gone to Celtic. Maybe.

But no way would he get the Spurs job - he's just not exciting enough.

And I can't see Villa fans dancing in the streets at the idea of Gordon pitching up.

Strachan's best chance was Allardyce, Martinez, Hodgson, Megson, McLeish or Phil Brown having an absolute nightmare start to the season and being knee-jerk sacked.

He would have got one of those. Boro is his best chance outside the Prem, especially if he wants to get on with a job. He must be delighted he didn't have to go to Newcastle.

WGS was fantastic for us, but fundementally he is a pretty average manager - get em fit, simple football, motivate the lads, comedy press conference. I love him but he's limited.

It won't be Strachan, you can bet your life he's not looking to live in Hartlepool and only neanderthals would think Middlesborough a grand place to live, where a great night out involves paying for brown sauce on your chips.

Most of the Newcastle players live in Middlesbrough....at The Wynyard. It's a pretty private place with a golf course and lots of rather large houses there. Shearer lives/lived there, and his house was bloody enormous.

He'll probably live there.

Must be a different Gordon Strachan that played for Leeds for several years, then. He might just know the area a little.

What's Leeds got to do with Boro?

Leeds and Middlesborough aren't exactly close.

Well my comment was in response to someone thinking he'd have to live in Middlesborough. He wouldn't have to.

The fact that he lived and worked in North Yorkshire suggests he knows the area and there's plenty of nice areas/villages/towns between Leeds and Middlesborough, all of which are in perfectly commutable distances. North York Moors or towards the Dales and Ripon or Richmond etc. Or even York.

My point was his six years at Leeds would give him a broader knowledge of northern Yorkshire (where Middlesbrough is) than "everyone eats brown sauce" which was the dumb-ass post I was responding too.

And anyway, half the country are driving hour-plus commutes to their workplace. I do it, as do almost everyone I work with, and most people I know in fact.

Plus there are such things as laptops and handsfree kits and Blackberries.

Have any of you people ever left Southampton? Do you all walk to work to the factory on the corner of your road?

Well that can't be right...Glasgow Saint told me to it was going to be Pearson...

Surprised by the lack of ambition by Gordon if this is true btw...

Biggish club, chairman that will give you money when you wanted it, will stick by you when needed.

Good fan base.

Premiership infrastructure.

He could do quite well there, plus it is a low maintenence job, they are near the top of CCC, decent squad.

He built on the solid foundations left by Hoddle and did a very good job for us. However, he lost the plot at the end, bottled it in the cup final and I reckon would have tarnished his reputation if he'd stayed another season or so (not least because of Lowe).

He'd do a good job at Boro though.
