John B Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Because of how the team is playing, the only two I'd really welcome back out of that lazy lot are Surman and JP Saijs. QUOTE] I was not suggesting that we should have kept them although most are playing in a higher league than us but it was not surprising that so many had been recruited to replace those that had left. I agree with you on Surman but not Saejis
ericofarabia Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I only saw the earlier games of the season live, but Harding ceratinly stood out as a good act even when we were playing pretty poorly and is an natural replacement for Rudi and Surman in the Crowd Clapping stakes I was very impressed with Ricky Lamberts contribution up front at Huddersfield and Stockport, but nobody was there to latch on to the numerous knock downs. That problem has been resolved and he is not only a potent goal scorer, but a provider of goals, a free kick and penalty specialist and we get to sing a happy clappy new song in his honour as well As stated elsewhere AP has not made any mistakes in his purchases/loans so far both on and off the pitch, getting Trotman to sign up in Jan would be nice. Don't want a Jack Cork scenario again.

CWD Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Wow i totally for got about Connolly. Now that could prove to be signing of the season across all the divisions imo
Clifford Nelson Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 If we're talking about impressive signings then I'd have to go for Harding. He is easily CCC standard and the best defensive LB we've had since Doddy imo, and AP has picked him up on a free! For 1mil Lambo had to be impressive to live up to the price tag - and for me he has. However simply coz i think it was such a massive coup im going with Harding Jason Dodd was a right back!
Clifford Nelson Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I don't think many people here are wrong, and that must be a first. AP added something in common with all signings and loans, except possibly Mellis, and that is character. They never come out to have a half hearted performance but will give everything every time. I'm sure that has rubbed off on Lallana and James, both of which are playing better now than they have ever done. Maybe my favourite is Harding, but it isn't a lot in it. Andy_Porter Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Lambert by a country mile. Was pretty ****ed off when Stern John didn't sign for us but Lambert is twice the player John is and his ability to play the lone striker role has really improved us as a team. Gives us a different dimension to most teams, you don't get many target men that get 20+ goals a season and link the play so well, the complete striker. If we had signed Lambert when we sold Kenwnye Jones we would probably still be in the Championship, he's far too good to be playing football in League One and hopefully soon he will be banging them in for us in the CCC. AlfredKo Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 lambert, exactly what we have been missing for a number of seasons. Goals and assists aplently. Very Beattie esque and the best striker we've had since we sold Jones. However I think he is more like a Steven Howard type of player.
corsacar saint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 All good signings, but for me Rickie Lambert is the key player now at the club.

mcjwills Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Player of the season is going to be one intersting time this year, will be between Lambert, Hammond, Jadi and Harding. But we have yet to find out how Conolly is going to pan out.
Stuartinoz Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 My mate is raving about Lambert and every week we have an arguement in the Northam about this very subject. There is no doubt that Harding is a class act (and probably the best LB since Derek Statham IMHO!) and in on a free but for me and this will p1ss my mate off still, but it has to be Hammond! The man never does anything that makes you go 'wow', but he does the simple things consistently and very well. He's got grit and determination in abundance with a 'never say die' attitude that lifts the rest of the team. Once more, IMHO this has been missing since the days of Jimmy Case! Completely agree It honestly makes such a difference to the makeup of a team when you have a leader type figure in the centre. liverpool for e.g...they've nothing without gerrard. Matthew Le God Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 There is no doubt that Harding is a class act (and probably the best LB since Derek Statham IMHO!) Harding is a great signing in League One. But Wayne Bridge and Gareth Bale were better left backs for Saints.

The Guardian printed an article a while back about the Danish National Team of the 80'es. Good read and very well researched. Link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/oct/13/forgotten-story-denmark-1980s The one player, that made it possible for the kind of football the Danes were playing back then, was midfielder Jens Jorn Bertelsen, who with his simple passing game, endless running and fighting spirit, released other players from their defensive duties. Dean Hammond is the exact same player, making him Pardews best signing.
derry Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 All of those. But although not the most essential signing I have to single out Papa as being the addition that has caught my imagination most. He's giving us speed, width and penetration, and more attacking options. Saints have always been best when we have had fast wingers, and his arrival has been an important statement of intent that we are going to become an exciting force again We couldn't buy a goal until he arrived, he opened everything up. Papa Waigo N'Daiye for me.
BridgnorthSaint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Alan Pardew himself, in my opinion, at last a manager who wants to be here with the right level of experience and leadership to attract the right type of players. It helps to have the right chairman/owner etc too though. Oh happy days... Can't remember the last time thing felt this positive.
Bakovnetski Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 Hammond or Jaidi.....or Lambert....or Trottman.....or Connelly....or Papa. How long is it since we can say that we have made that many good signings in two months?
SuperSAINT Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 I was driving home the other day thinking about the 1st match we played this season against Millwall. From memory, I think we now have in our starting eleven, FIVE new players from that day. Trotman, Jaidi, Hammond, Waigo, Lambert. Four of those are down the spine of the team. Shows the difference they've made.

Lambert wins headers Stern didn't. What a massive difference that makes both offensively and defensively. It WILL be very interesting to see if he can do it in the CCC. corky morris Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 For me it reads Trotman, Hammond, Harding, Lambert. All of them have been excellent. I was in Leeds yesterday working & as you would imagine we got onto football. All 5 of the guys i spoke to said that Harding was poo for them! Couldnt believe they were talking about the same player. chrisobee Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 Considering we lost John Rasiak Skacel Surman Saegis Euell BWP McGoldrick it is not surprising that they were replaced I would have thought. The new players of course are all playing well in Div 1 but once we get to the CCC what will happen then I wonder TBH it would be nice if we are able to find out! But's that for the future, for now in answer to the question I'd go with Hammond ( just) though as mentioned nobody has let us down. So full marks to AP for all his signings! SaintRobbie Posted 23 October, 2009 Share Posted 23 October, 2009 Opinion and Fact are entirely different things and should not be confused. Facts cannot be influenced or changed whereas Opinion is just an individual's impression. Opinions about future events are valid but they are not fact until or unless the event occurs. Thanks for that Professor... very useful.
