Deppo Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Just found out that she is the sister of Gary Powell, the drummer from The Libertines. That's if Wikipedia is to be believed.
the stain Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 you are kidding??? No! Daughter of Peter Powell too...
stevegrant Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Can't do any worse than Mike Newell did, to be fair. Also, a rather major irony of her succeeding Newell if it turns out to be true (and I doubt it will happen, tbh)
OldNick Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 she was useless as the England ladies manager. That cup final she was inept at team selection and subs
Scummer Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 she was useless as the England ladies manager. That cup final she was inept at team selection and subs You're a racist sexist.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Rubbish, they've got a photo of the nerw manager on their web page. http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/javaImages/9c/e9/0,,10417~7465372,00.jpg
OldNick Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 You're a racist sexist. and you forgot to put Im a lesbian as well
Scummer Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 and you forgot to put Im a lesbian as well I don't think lesbians can be sexist.
Colinjb Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 According to the Grimsby forum she has applied for the job and it is being taken seriously by their chairman.
Ash Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Surely the very best female manager in the country is going to be significantly better at the job than a lot of the chaps. The only potential issue would be if the chaps would give her the repeck' the position deserves. I would have no objection to saints putting a lady in charge; if they're good enough it matters not whether they have a **** and balls. I have long since said the same about players; surely the very best female players in the world have got to be significantly better than some of the male players.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Would be interesting - I'd like to see her get the job just to see what happens. Very interesting indeeed.
swannymere Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 It won't happen because despite the impression that football gives of being a modern, forward-looking sport it's still all a secret-handshake, old boys network and they won't allow a woman to try her luck.
bridge too far Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Would be interesting - I'd like to see her get the job just to see what happens. Very interesting indeeed. +1 ...
Hatch Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 the problem with giving her the job, is that if it all goes tits up (so to speak) then it will be a nightmare to sack her..
scaramanga Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 not a chance of it happening, what has she actually done????? England manager for about 8 years and not won a thing despite the fact that there are only about 3 half decent teams in all of world womens football. 99.9 percent of womens teams would get beat by a half decent sunday league team.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Does that mean there would be an option to be a woman manager on Football Manager? I wouldn't do it, but just wondering. This could also pave the way for woman coaches and scouts, and who knows, one day, women players playing side by side in the Premiership with the men. Naahhh.
saintwarwick Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 the problem with giving her the job, is that if it all goes tits up (so to speak) then it will be a nightmare to sack her.. That's a very good point

If women want equality in football then technically it shouldn't be a nightmare. It should be as easy as sacking John Barnes for example.

There already is - was introduced in FM09.
saints_is_the_south Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 Doesn't appear to be much truth in it - http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10417~1833130,00.html
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 October, 2009 Posted 21 October, 2009 There already is - was introduced in FM09. Fair play - I still play FM08.
Scummer Posted 22 October, 2009 Posted 22 October, 2009 Doesn't appear to be much truth in it - http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10417~1833130,00.html Any man who uses the phrase 'my good lady' doesn't strike me as the type of person who would employ the first female manager.
OldNick Posted 22 October, 2009 Posted 22 October, 2009 I do hope the fans who have said why not also were right behind us having a rugby man as the director of football.
