Danny Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Considering we're in the third tier, I think it's pretty good that we get goal/match highlights on Sky Sports News (free on Freeview) by about 7pm, then the FL programme on BBC (along with 71 other teams) before bedtime - The FL programme is on red button until noon the following day - and then the Beeb uploads highlights on the web club by club at midnight Sunday/Monday. If they got rid of the yakking altogether and showed more action then I'd have no complaints at all. I've got no problem with the Football League Show at all. Bearing in mind they have to fit in highlights from three divisions, I think it does an admirable job. Being able to watch it on iPlayer/get extended highlights on Monday just makes the package even better to use, IMO.

They devote a longer transmission time to the programme than ITV did, plus there are no stoppages for adverts. However, I don't make a point of watching it, as I know the Beeb will put highlights on their Football website. It's actually a very good compromise which allows them to cover the remaining 72 League teams reasonably adequately.
landford.saint Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 I just record it .. then Sunday morning 'fast forward' to Saints bit. I bet a good proportion of other supporters of all clubs do the same. Never heard the lady in question,I will have to stop at her bit and listen to her eloquence and in depth insight. Did listen to Clasrridge and the other bloke, what a couple of uncarismatic muppets. Seemed to have all the intelligence of a caravan park and the appeal of a motorway pile-up.
Master Bates Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Um.....Google, you lazy sod. It's not as if you don't know how to search for images of those of the female persuasion. But how can I google her, I don't even know what she's called
South City Si Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 I am quite happy with it compared to last few seasons putting up with the rubbish from ITV! Good to know she's a Saints fan!
exile on main street Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 all the time spent reading emails and texts, and asking claridge what he thinks (like i give a monkeys) could be spent, er, i dunno, maybe SHOWING SOME FOOTBALL? just a thought.
chrisobee Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 But how can I google her, I don't even know what she's called It's not so hard to find out, took me at least a minute. Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes.
LGTL Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Lets be honest, anything is better than the crap ITV used to serve up, complete with their stupid camera angles etc.
Saint_clark Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 (edited) Lets be honest, anything is better than the crap ITV used to serve up, complete with their stupid camera angles etc. I can remember their "on the floor behind the goal" angle in a game V Leeds. Yeah, well done you f*cking inbreds. Edited 19 October, 2009 by Saint_clark
Mozz Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Anyone who doesn't realise what a massive improvement BBC's coverage has been over ITV needs to get things in perspective. Now we've moved down a league we'd struggle to even get our goals on most weeks.
Boris Karloff Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Unless it's wall-to-wall Saints, people on here are going to complain. They show plenty of football. Claridge is generally fairly concise and through showing very few replays they show a lot of stuff. I could do without all the email stuff, but I'd rather the football was broken up a bit with stuff like the Mark Clement links.
Brussels Saint Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 For me the biggest problem with this show and many other shows for that matter, is the incessant drive to let the public have their say. (thus the crap email & text section) The public are fools (me included) and dont know their arse from their elbow. I prefer to listen to a panel of experienced football people who's views I can then digest. I dont want to hear what Barry from Bristol thinks about his current club predicament. At least we on this forum all recognise the value of our comments and thus keep them to the internet ages "chat down the pub" equivalent instead of texting the bbc like anyone cares what we think. I still even go to the pub for a chat with my mates about football, which is to be honest where my views should stay.
macthesaint Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Having seen the extended bit on our BBC site,Im wishing the Ricky Lambert cross bar efforts could have been shown in the actual programme. He deserved a bigger audience for that.Proper centre forward. What a finish by Connolly too, would love to have been with our lot behind that goal.
westofshannonsaint Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 (edited) 2.09 mins of highlights now on BBC... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/8295508.stm Cannot play media. Sorry, this media is not available in your territory. boo-hiss! here is sky's 1.57 mins... http://www.skysports.com/video/clips/0,23791,16478,00.html I do think that the BBC's effort is better than ITV's and am much happier that it's on a Saturday night, I would prefer if beeb showed more football and less punditry (or punditry as part of the commentary) and just a brief look at the tables, no need for any pundits face to be on screen at all. Fan The Flames Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 I like the programme and i'm thankful there's football at a lower level on the box. Its good coverage and the format turns highlights into a show. Lizzie is fit, the presenter is good and clarridge is a football fan and not so anti saints. Thank god that **** savage isn't on it.
londonsaint1604 Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 I agree that is so embarassing. And that maniche tosser who presents it is an annoying pr*ck as well who doesn't seem to know anything about football. I was thinking wouldn't it be great if they didn't bother with any of the pointless chat and just showed highlights of the football for the whole program. After all that's what I watch it for.

They've got a massive amount of games to show, so every second should be used showing them! This topic came up a while ago and I actually timed a show and nigh on a third of the programme was taken up not showing football!!

But everyone on this site is a hardcore footy fan, otherwise they wouldn't be on here. The Beeb is only trying to cater for everyone. I know my wife for starters would probably not watch it if it was just non-stop highlights for an hour or more.

Are you saying that your wife and other non-hardcore footy fans stay up to watch the football league show just to hear steve claridge's opinions about the games?
Guy Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 Are you saying that your wife and other non-hardcore footy fans stay up to watch the football league show just to hear steve claridge's opinions about the games? Indeed. I suspect no-one other than fans of the teams featured watches, I doubt that very many watch the whole show. Those watching live will switch off after their team has been shown and those of us who record it will fast forward until our team's game comes up and maybe will watch the Mark Clemett (sp?) documentary slot.
Boris Karloff Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 Are you saying that your wife and other non-hardcore footy fans stay up to watch the football league show just to hear steve claridge's opinions about the games? No, she stays up to watch it because I do! But I know that if there were no presenters and it was just match after match and nothing in between, her eyes would glaze over and she'd be asleep even quicker than she normally is. I just think that some people like to have the matches put into a little bit of context, have a bit more opinion, etc. but I would guess that it's not necessarily the people that frequent this forum.
eurosaint Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 On a scale of ten, I'd give her one ! http://media.photobucket.com/image/lizzie%20greenwood%20hughes/pink2wink/Celebrity%20Puffy%20Vest%20Wearers/JKL/LizzieGreenwood-Hughes13.jpg
RedAndWhite91 Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 Thought she was called Jacqui Oatley - Or are we talking about someone different?
Legod Third Coming Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 No, she stays up to watch it because I do! Er, so we should structure football programmes for people who aren't interested in the football. Are you a BBC executive by any chance...
