Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Does anyone have any idea how much your CC company charge you for using your card in Europe, whether using an ATM or a chip and pin. I guess all companies are different, but I have a Mastercard and an AMEX...

Used going through the tolls on the French roads, some of the tolls were only €1.60 but added a quid!! No charge with Amex though.

Get a credit card from the Post Office - they don't place any charges when used abroad over the counter, but they do make a charge when you use it in an ATM abroad. I just take enough cash. And if you want a form to apply for one, PM me and I'll post you one. Most CC companies will screw you over, as screamfish says not only a transaction fee, but a cross-border fee for the currency conversion.
