Thedelldays Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 I hope that no-one forgets to give them **** for being the first (and hopefully last) ever official franchised football club in England. It is plainly wronf=g that they even exist in this league. Can you imagine how you would feel if Marcus had bought us and shipped the 'club' along with the '76 triumph up the road to (say) Basingjoke? Well, these arseholes moved the club even further from their real home, and were allowed to change the nmae just to riub salt into the wounds of genuine 'Dons' fans. It must never be allowed to happen again, and if ever the game of football had a bunch of plastic fans, then it is the MK Dons ones without a shadow of doubt. I hope we absolutely smash them, I really do. COYFR's football teams have always changed down the years.. arsenal were south london once and called something completely differennt saints were called st marys or something like that before.. im sure if you look through the history books that you will find that teams have evolved/relocated many times over the years....

Relocations have always happened within the city/town where they played ie Arsenal, Man Utd and names changed for wider geographical connections ie St Marys to Southampton. But never has a club been stolen from one set of fans and given to another like the Wimbledon story. I think the authorities changed the rules to stop this happening again, even the 'couldn't give a ****' football authorities thought it was wrong. I too hope we smash up the plastic club, I would like to see them go bust.
Trumush Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 MK Dons pace and movement might cause a few problems for our not always mobile CBs. Just watched MK Dons on the FL Show and agree, they are very quick and direct. Might have to resort to the old tactic of scoring more goals than the opposition, which I think we are capable of: 5-4 anyone ????
ohwhenthesaints Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 It's going to be a cracker of a game, can't wait.
Legod Third Coming Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 It is imperative that WE, the crowd, take confidence into this game. A rousing reception, a strong and loud presence from the off and MK Dons won't know what's hit them. Never mind how they have been playing and their recent results, they simply haven't played a class side like us yet. No more the mousey losers, we are now lions on the prowl. Don't bottle it from the stands!

hypochondriac Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 I was enjoying your last 2 post's until your needless slant on Lawrie! You were talking sense, positive, all about football and no politics then 'BANG' lets slate Lawrie. Lawrie never classed himself as one of the post war best top 20 managers, it was a independent publication from Guinness, come on 19c, keep it real mate, the futures bright, the futures red and white! Yep and that is my entire problem with it. Weston, if you are reading this can you see why it is difficult to treat this poster with respect.
Saint_John Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Althought they have won 3 league games in a row I'm not sure their results are as impressive as ours. IMO I think League 1 has leagues within leagues. Anyhow there last 6 league games are as follows :- Gillingham (H) W 2-O (1-O until 9O min). Walsall... (H) W 1-O Brighton.. (a) W 1-O (5 Booked, playing against 1O men from 26mins) Oldham.... (a) L 2-1 (5 Booked, 2-O down until the 87 min.) Leeds..... (H) L 1-O (5 Booked, 1 s/o) Wycombe... (a) W 1-O Their 4 away wins this season have been at Brighton, Wycombe, Tranmere and Exeter, who imo are in the "bottom league" within L1. A more important fact is that they have had 5 players booked on 4 occasions this season usually when they are not getting things there own way in matches.

I think we could cane them - no arrogance, no expectancy. But we have a superb team now, far superior to MK Dons, and we need to make it show. We have looked untroubled in the last three games, scoring and missing at will. To improve, we must bury the chances we are creating and remain tight at the back, ideally tighter. An early goal would really set up this game. I can't wait.
St Marco Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Basically we are neck and neck with them so really will be a good indicator for us of how the season could go from here. Think they have the 2nd best away record or something. It has the potential to be a classic. The next 4 games could be massive for us, 3 of those games are at home.

I believe we are now into phase 2 of AP's plans - he has managed to gel the squad and get it winning, certainly away wins at Southend & Oldham are impressive (both in the top half of the form table despite losing to us). He now needs to keep heads & attitudes in the right place to ensure we keep our run going - something that historically we've not been good at. But history is there to be broken....
Danbert Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Automatic Promotion is promotion, unless I'm mistaken! Unless we're bribing the FA... westofshannonsaint Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 the first real test for AP's settled squad, if we in this I will believe we can go on and reach the playoffs. a post above suggest mkdons can be a bit dirty so it will be a physical game & one I would love to watch. When was the last time Saints won 4 in a row? I think we can play them off the park.
the saint in winchester Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 I wonder if any of the original Wimbledon fans still follow them or if they all now follow AFC Wimbledon instead. It must have been really difficult as a fan to see their club go through that. I have a mate who was Wimbledon FC through and through, being a Wimbledon lad. When they were de-frocked and emerged as MK Dons, he immediately supported the embryonic AFC Wimbledon. He still travels up from Winchester to Wimbledon for their home games and any away games in the south. He hates MK Dons with a passion and hopes we stuff them royally.

If any plaudits are to be dealt out they are for the team and club and supporters and players that rose from non-league to the very pinnacle of the English game - winning the FA Cup, the most famous club tournament in the world. The Wimblebon story is what every fan of non league football dreams of. That has absolutely nothing to do with MK Dons, they should not have been allowed to do what they did. I rmemeber (iirc) when Ipswich applied to change their name to Talbot Ipswich or something similar and were rigthly told where to go. This is an interesting debate actually as there are some pretty big towns that could support a league team if someone fancied moving a club lock stocck and barrel (intentional Vinnie Jones reference) to their doorstep, it could even be argued that Southampton and Pompey could sustain another team that traded on the geographical no-mansland between our two cities. All they'd need would be a stadium near to Segensworth and a top flight team from outside the area, a team just like Wimbledon FC used to be. It could work, but that doesn't make it right or fair. By the way, it will evoke great memories if anyone looked up who the President of AFC Wimbledon is nowadays, I smiled. I hope the Itchen give them ****, I really do, worse than plastic Mancs imo. I would have applauded Winkleman if he had taken the non-league MK team all the way through the league, like the people of Wimbleden did, but that was too much hard work better to steal another club. I'm almost 100% sure, after listening to a piece on AFC Wimbledon a few weeks ago, that they hold the honors of the ''old'' Wimbledon. ''In October 2006, an agreement was reached between Milton Keynes Dons F.C., the MK Dons Supporters Association, the Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association and the Football Supporters Federation. The replica of the FA Cup plus all club patrimony gathered under the name of Wimbledon F.C. would be returned to the London Borough of Merton. Heaven forbid that a small club should be allowed to exisit in the top flight. Should we hound them out and save the Prem for the gigantic clubs with massive asian fan clubs, Wigan had better watch out or Milton Keynes for that matter if they ever get in to the top flight. My comment about their pitiful fanbase was followed up (in the same sentence) with the line "they would have gone out of business anyway". It's not a personal judgment about how small I think their fanbase is, its economics. So AFC Wimbledon would have had to have been formed anyway. Milton Keynes deserves a mid ranking second-third tier football club and "deserve" to be in the league as much as Everton, Arsenal, Burnley, Southampton and pretty much every other club in the country who never ever got promoted into the football league, just selected by greasing the right palms or slapping the right backs in the smoke filled rooms at the turn of the century. But do I like them because the amount of po-faced holier than thou preaching I read and hear against them. Oh yes, Oh yes I do. 10,000 fans, a great chairman investing in the team and backing his managers, a promotion and a trophy win - one more promotion than Arsenal have ever ever achieved - and a community united behind a football club. Isn't that what football is supposed to be about?
krissyboy31 Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 15 point deduction? Elvis Hammond? 1000 fans? What is he talking about?!?! I read that earlier and Lol'd but re-reading it he calls himself Winchester Don. Must be the only person in Winchester that knows bugger all about the Saints.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 MK Dons don't want any of the history of Wimbledon and make no claim on it, in fact they waived all holding over it a couple of years back. The fans of the original Wimbledon deserted their club in droves and droves and droves even before the Dublin stuff was mooted. They would have gone bust anyway. They spent far too long whining about how far away their home ground was, but it was about five miles away from Plough Lane. It's like Saints losing 15,000 fans because Leibherr builds a new stadium in Totton. Milton Keynes is sustaining a football club and with average gates of 10,000 you could say they deserve a league football club more than, say, Stockport or Hartlepool, neither of which have ever been promoted into the league, they were just let in. Much like the vast majority of English football clubs. This idea that every club have strived through the pyramid is total fallacy, barely any have, Saints included. Almost every pro club in existance has been invited to join the league. Fair play to Winkleman and MK Dons for breaking down the closed shop. More power to them. The only reason they agreed to waive their claim to Wimbledon FC's history and trophies etc is because the MK Dons Supporters Association were refused entry to the Football Supporters Federation until they did so. Until this was forced upon them, Winkleman basically tried to claim this history just with a name, kit and badge that he'd chosen himself. I'm all for success for smaller clubs, and it's not a problem with Milton Keynes having a succesful team, just the fact that they (or at least their chairman) practically stole the team from another town.
