alpine_saint Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 So we had a manger who won every other game (you know who he is) and you didn't have that feeling even when we were winning games under him??? But then you never did like him did you, so you weren't about to let the results get in the way of your personal animosity towards him. I see the record is stuck in its very-worn groove again. Nope, I didnt have that feeling with him. We'd get a win, then go out and play with a totally bewildering formation next game, with the expected pants performance and pants result. I seem to even recall making the accusation that Burley didnt WANT an automatic relegation spot, maybe he was afraid of being found out at PL level (as he eventually was at CCC level). Personal animosity has nothing to do with it. He was a sh*te manager who had more money to spend on shaping a squad to his vision than any other in the clubs history and he blew it. End of.
St Marco Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Went to the game and was fantastic. Not much else to add that has not been added already. That is 4 wins on the trot in all comps. 10 goals in our last 3 games. Only 3 conceeded. On the basis of the last 6 games we rank 2nd. On the basis of the last 8 games we rank 4th. Our last 10 games read 5 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss. Scored 19 etc etc etc. You could go on stating positive stats that show what most people knew all along. So am i the only one who finds it funny to read those people who say "if we win the next one we would of turned the corner! if we win the next one i might have some faith" etc etc. Come on now. How can you say that still? We have lost just 3 games all year. We have just played 2 good teams away and pummeled them both. They could of been heavy defeats for those teams if we did not miss some sitters. And that is the point, we are creating so many chances it is unreal, not half chances but real proper chances. Lallana and Morgan missed complete sitters yesterday, we hit the crossbar/post i think 2-3 times. How can you base your negative attitude on what happened in the first 5 games or so but ignore the great results in the following 7-8 games? As far as im concerned if you still think things are not good enough after the last 10 games then your a mong.

So you can call Burley a sh*te manager and that's fine, but I call you a sh*te fan and I'm out of order, throwing abuse, this, that and everything else? Double standards if ever I saw it.

RinNY Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Was interested in what Claridge said about Connolly. He was probably the one signing this season I didn't take that seriously, in a not bothered sort of way. But I wonder whether we have a 15+-goal a season striker on our hands. Not sure how we fit him into the system, as we seem to have deserted 4-4-2, but am v pleased we may have depth in the squad. I'm one very happy Saints fan at the moment. Not so much about where we are, but certainly about the direction we're moving in. I think the best thing Pardew can do at present, given the goal scoring form of Waigo and Lallana and Connolly's injury history, is keep the team as is and use Connolly as a super-sub, the way ManU used to use Solskjaer. I think it'll be fantastic to have a guy on the bench who can come on for 15 or 20 minutes when we're chasing the game, or trying to put the win to bed, and get us a crucial goal. How long has it been since we had someone like that on the bench? I fear that making Connolly a starter could put too much strain on him & lead to new injury problems, and in any case why change the team just when we're winning?

You're abusing Burley because YOU think he's a sh*te manager, and I'm abusing you because I think you're a sh*te fan. Why can I not abuse you if you can abuse Burley?! St Will Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 So, you cannot handle my opinion. Game, set, match... Because you don't have an opinion. You like to moan. I would accept your opinion if your opinion changed once in a while to something excitingly positive. But it never does. Positive comments always have conditions....positive comment + "but" or "as long as"....etc. Anyway, I'm bored. "Game, set, match"

dune Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Speak for yourself - I can hardly speak today my throat's so raw  Ditto that, but the 40 or so roll-ups didn't help. Was drinking in the Grey ......... (something or other) before the game. Good pub but not enough people serving! By the time we got into the ground all the seats in the main part had gone and we were directed to the side of the away end. The singing wasn't great but i sang all game as did the other ******heads. That sailor shanty we sing for Lambert is starting the grow on me, but i've not good a ****ing clue what the words are. Most people around me were singing lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala Ricky Lambert Lalalalala.

tommi Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Well I must have watched a different game? If Morgan had scored that 'easy' chance to make it 3-1 we would have won 4 or 5 -1. We finally managed to score from open play and at times played some excellent stuff. It will come, keep the faith.. This is my reaction after the Bristol Rovers defeat. I said at the time that I had never felt so positive after a defeat. May I suggest some of you on here go back over and read a few of your posts from the last few weeks. It helps give a little bit of perspective.

May I suggest some of you on here go back over and read a few of your posts from the last few weeks. It helps give a little bit of perspective. I said exactly the same. To any sane person who saw the game, it was obvious we had turned the corner at that game, and it was a freak goal that caused us to lose. Any other day, the worst we'd have got was a point from that game

May I suggest some of you on here go back over and read a few of your posts from the last few weeks. It helps give a little bit of perspective. I thought we played better in that game than against Gillingham, but then I don't buy this 'turned the corner' stuff. To me, we have been getting better in stages since day one of the season as a very astute manager has been sussing out his squad/team and working out who could play and who couldn't and where those who could play were best suited. It really, really p!55es me off when people talk about starting the season badly, as though there was any alternative to the first ten games of the season. As though somehow our manager was supposed to arrive and wave a magic wand with a bunch of players who clearly weren't up to the job. What's happened is that we are now reaping the reward of hard work and having to take a pre-season during the season!! But then, when we have so many immature fans, not surprising that they are also premature is it!

Saint_clark Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 I post positive comments on top of what I say about you. You don't say anything positive. Goodnight. Wrong. Alpine has admitted he is wrong about the likes of Lallana and Morgan, and has said in this very thread that he is feeling confident going into games for once. Are you going to be as big a man and admit you are wrong?
dubai_phil Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Oh dear, sorry to break the happy atmsophere, but seems we actually lost on Saturday according to a Polish web-site http://sport.interia.pl/raport/polacy-ligi-zagraniczne/news/polacy-za-granica-strzelaja-ale-w-iii-lidze,138406 Seems they'll try ANYTHING to give Polish fans hope that Saga can get back into the team! Red and White Army Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Where's that then ? I am talking about real momentum, having confidence going into a game that we can win it. Plenty of us have had that, just Mr Negative that hasn't.

thornhill_saints Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 I was well chuffed with the Win had a £3 win on Saints 3 - 1 got a nice £78 back ;-)...
Viking Warrior Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 If you think your being abused Alpine then you should contact the duty social worker. There might be some compensation in it for you

Red and White Army Posted 19 October, 2009 Posted 19 October, 2009 Erm, I though I expressly inidicated that I have it again for the first time since Lawrie Mac was manager... Yes, so decades of being Mr Negative. Three wins - you're a really cheap date Alpine. LOL!

Even though we are in the bottom 3 of League One it is definitely exciting times to be a Saints fan!

Even though we are in the bottom 3 of League One it is definitely exciting times to be a Saints fan! Sorry but I was slightly disappointed felt that Oldham gifted us the goals. That said it was a very good result probably the most important of the season showing that we can beat reasonable sides away from home. Things seem to be going well no real injury problems and with a big crowd behind the team I think we will win on Saturday too.
OldNick Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 I think like AP believes since we have got rid of the -10 we are more relaxed and can now move on.Saturday will be a tough test. Watching Norwich and Leeds both are beatable but alos both pretty decent teams. i have been surprised how good the football is at this level. Not superb but entertaining none the less.
derry Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 That is in itself a really significant change. Have you noticed over the years that the good confident sides that seem to get goals appear to score a proportion of what appear to be easy/fortunate goals. This is probably the phsychological pressure of playing what is perceived to be a better side putting more than normal pressure on individuals promoting errors. It is something that we have been susceptible to for years. I've lost count of the number of these sort of goals we have conceded. It is good to see the opposite effect, long may it continue.
Wes Tender Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 Sorry but I was slightly disappointed felt that Oldham gifted us the goals. You might be right that a couple of goals came from mistakes by them, but on the other hand, there were very reasonable chances for us to have scored another 4 goals. Two were when Lambert hit the post and there were also two chances from Lallana and Schneiderlin that were easier to score from than miss.

krissyboy31 Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 I agree it was just the goals I thought were not good not the performance Wouldn't say the 1st goal was a gift. The marking may not have been great but it makes a pleasant change to score that sort of goal, rather than concede it. For as far, far too long, if we won a corner it was an easy clearance by the opposition defence, whereas if we conceded a corner, it was always panic stations and quite often a 'free' goal against.

Things seem to be going well no real injury problems and with a big crowd behind the team I think we will win on Saturday too. I wasn't at the game on Saturday so all I had to go by was the highlights, and yes perhaps the goals were 'gifts' but you could say it is good and it is an improvement that we are taking those chances now, and you could even go so far as to say Lady Luck is smiling on us, and luck is something which we have not had a lot of recently. So whether the goals are terrific bang-ins from the half way line, or a mistake my a defender/keeper or lacklustre marking, I don't care, banging in three goals away from home is not something I complain about!! And yes I think we are on a wave of high morale now and agree that with a big crowd we will win on Saturday. It's certainly going to be a good gauge to show where we are at, with MK being 3rd in the table.

krissyboy31 Posted 20 October, 2009 Posted 20 October, 2009 the first goal looked pretty soft to me if we had concedded it i would not have been happy I'm not happy conceding any goal unless it's something like the Southend goal where you can hold your hands up and say fair play (even then, it was a stupid free-kick to give away). What I am saying is that it was a set-piece that has been worked on on the training pitch, it came off, Hammond lost his marker and buried the header. It is a goal that we have not looked like scoring for several seasons but a goal we HAVE been conceding with alarming regularity over the same period.
