Fergie Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Great win for sure, was saying at work this morning that i didn't feel we'd win today and that we'd get a draw at best...little did i know eh!! Also just brought my tickets for Leyton Orient away this morning so cannot wait for that one, hopefully another 3-1 victory...or more maybe!!! S-Clarke Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Some comments from the Oldham fans (i love reading these...) ''Yup, they were a well organised side who played for each other and moved the ball well. If they hadn't had the deduction they would be right up there. They look like they have adapted to the league and I wouldn't be surprised to see them promoted.'' ''Yep, the best team I've seen us play this season by some way. I think they can still make the play offs. '' ''I was impressed by them they out fought, out thought and out passed us today.'' ''they did what they had to do to win at this level. i wouldnt say both sides were equal but we gifted them two goals. saying that, though, lambert could have had a hat-trick and they placed a sitter wide. if only we could have someone with the quality of lambert who did nothing wrong today
Saint_Jonny Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Just got back from the game (student in Huddersfield, nice little drive that ) The difference today was as simple as a little bit of quality. When the time was needed we had it and they did not, we took our chances and they didn't. Saints set up well first half and gave oldham nothing, the defence was EPIC all game apart from a wobbly 5 mins in the 2nd half when the team fell asleep. My motm has to be Lambert, lead the line superbly and created space around him for lallana and morgan to run into. Lallana worked hard as did hammond. Jaidi is a man mountain! Love watching hip mop up everything, even did some ronaldo style skills on the far touch line in the second half A great afternoon, oldham fans were really friendly before the game and the Saints fans were terrific from start to finish, absolutely love singing the Lambert goal machine song! amsterdam Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Jonny Lewis and Rational Rich - well done to you! Quick question - I only managed to follow the game on here via chinese whispers from the radio reports (check the first half comments) and it seemed Jaidi had an off day and we were a bit fortunate at times - was this your reading? Quick question - I only managed to follow the game on here via chinese whispers from the radio reports (check the first half comments) and it seemed Jaidi had an off day and we were a bit fortunate at times - was this your reading? I thought Trotman looked the dodgier of the two today but only by comparison to recent performances - we never really looked in danger apart from when we took our foot off the gas for 10 mins early in the second half. But unlike before, we had the ability to pull back from that and get the game back under control. Hammond and Harding were good again, James played well apart from his final ball, still can't believe Morgan missed his chance, but as others have said Lambert was the main man today. Good to hear the Woolston Ferry being sung and the proper Rickie Lambert song catching on (less good to hear the tractor song - never liked that one). SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 The sceptics are being won over. That's how it works. When the team is losing games, or getting bad draws from games that should be won, and looking disorganised and demoralised, people are going to be sceptical about the manager and the team's direction. Go figure! And when the team starts to win, things come together on the pitch, the defense looks solid & well organised, the midfield starts to control the game, the strikers score goals, people who were sceptical start to believe that things are going well and the manager knows what he's doing. Again: go figure! So what's your problem? Things are going well for Saints at last: enjoy it!I am enjoying it. Its just you sceptics who put in your doom & gloom posts that p-i$$ people off! Saint Fan CaM Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 What a fabulous win...dunno, I had a strange feeling it would be 1-3 (see build-up thread) and I've not felt quietly confident about Saints for...well, years. yorkie Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Back in the East Riding after a great awayday. Must confess the fans were a bit quiet during the second half - subdued I think by winning 2-0. Only ever one team in it - Ricky Lambert is a hero! Scored a goal and hit the bar twice. Connerley had an instant impact - what a change to see a forward take his first chance with virtually his first touch/chance. Antonuio came on for a cameo appearance he will trouble defences at this level. He stands at nearly six foot three - Ricky Ricky He'll take us to the Premier League He gets the ball and takes the **** He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tiss Ricky Lambert Southampton's Goal Machine Rang out time and time again. The good times are back. A big game next week against the MK Dons sitting in 3rd place...but we're off the bottom at last! It's great times to be a SAints fan - let's pack out SMS next week and force them to open B;ocks 1,2 & 3!

Arizona Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Just back from the match. Brilliant day out by all accounts. It was a pretty open game for the most parts, with Oldham definitely having their moments in control, but we were defensively excellent. The only sour point was their goal when we seemed to fall asleep and James was left blowing bubble chasing their players. The first two goals were at the other end. I thought Lambert got the first until I checked. The second... I don't know what was going on there, I'll have to see the highlights. One minute the 'keeper is lying there and appeared to have both hands on the ball. The next the net is ripling. It was all a bit Massimo Taibi. The third was just brilliant. Connelly on his debut, cool as you like. Entertaining game, I wouldn't say 3-1 flattered us, but all 4 goals game from bad mistakes or poor marking. As for the players: Davis - 8 One excellent stop first half from a 1 on 1 effort going for the top corner. Dealt with most stuff, if a little 'punchy' at times. James - 5 Lacks pace, can't jump and seems afraid of the halfway line. All his crosses came from far too deep. Jaidi - 8 Won just about everything in the air. Trottman - 8 Very good all round performance. Harding - 7 Solid, they didn't get a sniff down our left. Not all that going forwards. Waigo - 7 Caused Oldham all problems with his pace. Delivery needs working on. Hammond - 8 Decent goal and ran the midfield well. Wotton - 7 His usual hard working shift. Won some key tackles. Bit less hoof too. Schneiderlin - 6 A good passer, but no stand-out moments. Missed a glorious chance from one of many goalie fook ups. Lallana - 7 Good on the ball, but can't put in a left footed cross. Lambert - 8 Good in the air and a decent free kick. Very hard to defend against. Subs: Antonio - 6 A couple of good runs in the time he had available. Will do well in this league. Connelly - 8 Looked very lively and took his goal excellently. Great find. And finally - Oldham's defence and 'keeper was just comical. It was like watching Saints under Burley. Badly organised, p*ssing about on the ball and poor individual mistakes. We had two players unmarked for the first, the goalie had a howler for the second and defenders were half asleep when Connelly robbed them for the third. Another mix up led to Schneiderlin putting wide from about 8 yards.
Melbourne Saint Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 After what the club has been through it's been hard to be patient this season but at the moment things are looking pretty good. Full credit to AP. Bringing in the players he wanted and getting them to play in the way that he wants was never going to happen straight away. You have to hand it to him. He's made some really astute signings, none more so than David Connolly which seemingly came out of the blue. I can't wait to see (well hear:() how his partnership with Lambert goes. Big game against the MK Dons next week but we've got nothing to fear.

OldNick Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 It is amazing how quickly we become optimists. To all those who have slated Lambert you should hang your heads. He has been great from day 1 and now AL has found form our forwards are looking effective. I must admit when I saw we had let them back into the game i said we'd draw especially after Morgan had missed the chance to seal the game earlier. I was also wrong about Pompey , i really thought Spurs would not have the bottle.FP has lost a bit of its menace to away teams. Saints have a midfield general in Hammond a good keeper, a cetral defence partnership and dtrong centre forward.Like all teams having a strong spine and you are hard to beat. pap Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Just back from the match. Most enjoyable. Oldham fans had a drum which they banged for about all of the time it took for the first goal to go in. Can't wait to see the second goal on Football League tonight. Virtually no-one at our end thought it was in. And yeah, apart from a scrappy bit where I thought we might snatch a draw from the jaws of victory, there was only one team in it. Third goal was very nice.

Melbourne Saint Posted 17 October, 2009 Share Posted 17 October, 2009 Lambert has 6 assists for the season which is #1 in the league to go with 6 league goals.
