First time this season I had to listen on the radio but I was kept updated throughout the game via text and sounded good... Wish I had gone now!! Absolutely delighted with the win and the fact we are off bottom, well done lads and well done Pardew, wonder if those with the opinion he isn't the right man for the job will be out in force tonight... Doubt it, he is doing a great job. Great result, great football day all round what with the skates losing, terrific. With 3 brings 4, home win next week!

11 from the play offs

20 from the top

Bring it on!

Yep! And we were only 11 points from promotion before the season started.

Ain't progress weird!

If you could gauarantee it' date=' I'd accept it....but just ask Leeds et al how difficult it is to ghet promotiooon. We should alweays aim to go up FAST, ie this season, not next. There is noone in gthe league Saints should fear. As confidence rises, both amongst supporters and players so the belief in the promotion bandwagon gathers pace. The players will now, for the first time in years, be believing in each other. Strong willed captains on the pitch, being tough with each other as well as the opposition, will make this a seasn to remember! Believe![/quote']

You're on your phone aren't you? ;)

yessss when was the last time we won 3 league games on the trot?

Under Wotte at the end of last season does seem far far further away though doesnt it! Great result hopefully we can kick and win against MK Dons next weekend I think the last time we won 4 in a row in the league was back under Burley!

Also really good to see DC get his first goal! up and running potentially another brilliant signing well done AP!

Absolutely delighted, saw this one as a potential banana skin. We have to keep on winning as we are now doing. Might sound blindingly obvious, but who knows where it will

take us.[saintWill I am far happier now we have won 2 difficult back to back away games

on the trot].

Where are the sceptics now then!

The sceptics are being won over. That's how it works. When the team is losing games, or getting bad draws from games that should be won, and looking disorganised and demoralised, people are going to be sceptical about the manager and the team's direction. Go figure! And when the team starts to win, things come together on the pitch, the defense looks solid & well organised, the midfield starts to control the game, the strikers score goals, people who were sceptical start to believe that things are going well and the manager knows what he's doing. Again: go figure!

So what's your problem? Things are going well for Saints at last: enjoy it!

another step on the road to promotion

On the road to redemption more like, after the last few years.

Thank God Pardew and Cortese are turning us into a real football club again.

Just shows how fooked we were by those previous clowns.

Just brilliant to be winning games again, away games even. Still nerve wracking though!

Busy week ahead for the ticket office I suspect...

Stuck in Belfast this weekend and couldnt find coverage anywhere, had to make do with occasional mentions on R5.

A 3-1 result away ???? Whooooopy Dooooooo - COYR we will WALK this league :-)

I feel a dream coming on, off for a lie down.......

COYR!

We're only 11 points off the play-offs with 33 games left, and would be 10th if we hadn't had the points penalty.

I'm actually starting to believe there's a chance we could go up this season.

No, 9th on goal difference.

Steady tiger... we just need to stay in this league, then win it next season!

Probably right. Even so, with all that we've had to put up with over the last few years, I'm very much enjoying the feeling of mindless optimism that today's result has given me.

Saints v Pompey in the CCC next year!?!

That would be absolutely incredible.

Just heard Pards on Radio Solent. Some errors, and praised Oldham's effort, so rightly, he wants more. But he's pleased overall with today's performance from the Lads. Thought Lambert was unplayable at times, and was really pleased with Connelly. Can't say fairer than that.

Posted

Am ecstatic about this as I really didnt have a good feeling about today, which is strange because I've always been one of the biggest optimists! Am really looking forward to hearing the fans view's that were there today, well done to all of them they made a lot of noise.

From what I heard on the radio though congrats to Lambert, Connolly and Hammond obviously, think Schneirderlin played well again, his consistency has been a main reason for the turn around, everyone has known hes got quality but hes really showing it week in week out, making good decisions at tough places.

Lallana missed a couple of chances but put in another industrious performance from what was said on the radio. It's amazing how Pardew has so quickly and easily solved problems that have plagued us for years and in some cases, since we got relegated. Sorted out the aerial presence at the back, mixture of youth and experience, big target man upfront, commanding midfielder, and a system that gets the best out of the best players. Think this is probably the best that I and many on here have felt about saints for quite some years, even better than the play-off season! Big attendance next week COYR

Great result 3-1 & back to back away wins, were truly up & running now makes it even better to be of the bottom. Looks like we have some momentum going now, need to keep it going against franchise FC next week. Good to see the goals being spread about as well, glad Connerly scored on debut looks like another good signing. Next target out of the relegation places. Onwards & upwards COYR.

Spot on. Momentum is going to play a massive, massive part. It changes pyschs of teams completely. A perfect example... when was the last time you looked at the fixture list and thought? "win, win, win etc" - last time I really felt that confident was under Burley in 06/07 and WGS, to a certain extent previously.

I can understand entirely if Saints do not quite make the playoffs or finish midtable this year. The points deducted were not only damaging from a playing point of view but also a psychological perspective. I did say a few weeks back that once we had removed the millstone from around our neck and get into positive points, we'd stick a run together and the real Saints side would start to show - which of course, it now is.

However, I don't think we can afford to settle for 'safety' this year. Another year in L1 means that it will be another year desperately struggling to keep ahold of the players in this squad and whilst we stand a better chance than most from vultures (after all, we are debt from with no need to sell), time is ticking with regards to the likes of Lallana etc.

We need to give this season a right good go and finish as high as we can, at least to prove our ambition is beyond just middling it out with the also-rans. It's a big ask to make the playoffs, but I would hope that the club strives to maintain this form and finish as high as we can - just to keep the 'feel-good' factor rolling over into the following season if we need to make a concerted effort for promotion from this division.

Well done today Saints :-)

6th in form table get in its been a while!!

That's not right - they have us down as only winning three of our last six instead of four. I prefer the other league where we are second!

Posted

I think it is a great result which really shows our new found class and potential. At home this season Oldham had played 6, won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1. Last week against Charlton they played well and held them. And we have just gone there and banged in 3. Could've been more by the sounds of it. These past 3 games has been a real signal of intent.

Great result, great day. The Mrs placed us a Ladbrookes double this morning with a Saints 3-1 win, Pompey lose 2-1 and just won £416.00.

Saints off the bottom too.

The perfect double. Saints winning away and Poopey losing at home. Deep joy!

Just back from the game (live just south of Manchester) and it was a solid win, when they scored my instinct was "here we go", reinforced when Morgan did all the hard work and then missed the target and when Rickie hit the angle of the crossbar and the post but we didn't fold, we kept pushing forward and sealed the win.

The first half display was great, surprised it was only 2.

Great to see us commanding games, winning all the headers 50/50s etc, long time since I could say that about Saints away from home.

Also, was my 2 1/2 year old daughter's first game and she loved it. She now wants a saints shirt for Christmas - her mum's not going to be pleased...

I also think it will help attract better players in the summer. We will be seen as the lower league team going places.

Will the realist brigade please stand up like men and acknowledge that the barrage of negativity they showed after the Bristol Rovers game was unnecessary?! Some of us cane out of that game saying "we've turned the corner", yet we were shot down with statistics and further negative remarks about Pardew et al. This isn't a "told you so" post, but considering I and other "happy clappies" knew the Bristol Rovers game was the turning point, and we were shot down by the "realists", isn't it about time these well known negative posters admitted that perhaps they are too easy to fly off the handle?!

FWIW, well done Alan Pardew, I always had faith in you, I knew you'd turn it around. Well done Lallana and Schneiderlin, who came under criticism from certain people whose names I will not mention, and have been quite superb during our run of wins.

In fact, well done the whole team. Long may it continue.

No, 9th on goal difference.

Actually Pop Larkin was right...

Saints off the bottom, Pompey lose, Torquay out of the bottom 2, now all that is needed is a good grid position for JB and Saturday will be good...

Posted

The best team performance I've seen from Saints for some time and marred only by a bout of sloppy play stemming from overconfidence in the second half. Connolly's goal was pure class, worth going just for that.

Posted

Just a few seasons back [2006-07], under Roy Keane, Sunderland came from near the bottom of the Championship, to winning it. It's nowhere near being beyond the bounds of possibility that Saints can achieve play-off status.

Posted

I really think we are on a roll now. MK Dons will be a good test of our mettle next week, but I'm confident now we'll turn them over.

Good times are just around the corner....

This has just a great Saturday even better with this away win..the signs are good and the feel good factor is back..Saturday is about to even better with a visit to my Grandsons..

Oh happy days are here again !!!

wow...

i am well and truely wobbling on my pessimistic perch...

if we beat MK Dons I will be in the "we are going up" camp...and why the fuk not..?

I'm now looking ahead to each game expecting to win - rather than being prepared to accept a hypothetical Faustian pact for a draw.

I wouldn't have "taken a point" at 2.59pm today - for the first time in ages at an away league game.

I don't expect us to win all our remaining 33 games, obviously. But I'm starting to think something like W 20 D 5 L 8 is VERY realistic. That would mean 73 points and the play-offs.

9 points out of 9 - Not too shabby I suppose , I make that a points average of 3 a game NickG :D

The red and white Panzer Division steamrollers all before it ....

9 points divided by 3 - yep that is average of 3 hths!

I said when I thought we would start making progress, and when we should be judged - so far pretty pleased
