Oldham build-up thread

Looks a nice team, but still lacking that bit of balance on the left IMO. Harding could be left really exposed in some games.

The bench for this level is absolutely amazing though. Only leeds could field such a strong bench IMO.

I do think Pard's will go for the unchanged team though, Mellis will probably be too tired to start because of the international games...

I think you are right AP will stick to the same team as Southend & to be fair to Wotton he had a good game got stuck in & away from home is probably what you need (though he has the passing ability of a Donkey with 4 left feet).

If everybody is fit & available he wont change a winning team nor should he the boys that played are worth there shirt more of the same please UTS

on OS Pardew talks about how excited he is about Connolly starting upfront with Lambert and how most teams won't be able to cope.

But then adds that if we keep winning Connolly will have to wait.

Sounds like he doesn't want to change winning team.

Strange to think we are going to places like Oldham and worrying about getting beaten again!

How strange it is for people on here to think it our right to win at places like Oldham - sure we should have been scared if we were still a Premiership club as we always underperformed at such places butnow...?

Forecast is bright, just hoping the match goes our way - then the trip back across the Pennines won't hurt as much!

A new ground for me to add to the list of ones i have visited.

Based on the form guide they sit 7th with the same amount of points as us. They don't score many goals and they don't conceed many either. Only 2 in their last 6.

So it is going to be a battle and a test to see if we have turned the corner. If we won that would be 4 in a row in all competitions and god knows when we did that last.

They are a good team, but i think we now have a very good team who when up for it could murder teams in this league. If Waigo,Lallana,Morgan,Hammond,Lambert play to their levels then it could be like the shoot out at the OK Coral.

But this is Saints and when ever we are just about to climb that hill and reach the top somehow we always slide back down! So i got a feeling it will be 0-0.....Either that and we really have changed from the old day's and go on to win 0-2. Im hoping for the latter!

Always remember Oldham's ground being really freezing - it's very high up. I remember going up there a couple of times - "Benali Day" when lots of us wore moustaches for the last match of the season; also remember Le Tiss scoring a hat-trick and losing 4-3 (I think they had to win to stay up.)

Any rate, I'm going for a hard fought draw.

It used to be severely downhill as well, don't expect it still is though.

I think it used to be about 10 feet higher at one end than the other.

Too much optimism going on, 1-0 Oldham

2-1 Oldham lets not get too carried away.

A lesson will be learned as Oldham grab a convincing win. All this talk of promotion is craaaaazy, we have a long way to go.

My inbuilt pessimism says an oldham win, with the outside chance of a snatched late equaliser for Saints. I hope I'm wrong

I'm another who remembers Oldham as being freezing, stuck up the back corner of an old wooden stand.

Difficult place, such a typical "alien environment" "Northern Town" for us country folk

They have a solid team, have this down as 1-1, and injuries/jet lag permitting expect AP to keep the same team as Southend with Melis back onto the bench

Morning all from a cloudy East Riding.

Just about to put me Doc's on for a trip across the Pennines to cheer the lads on!

Must be wary of walking around Oldham though as I seem to remember Asians baniing whites from walking in their street...good job the League of St.George are not rallying for members today in Oldham!

Match report later after the game...but no doubt by then those not at the game will be one of these two scenarios...slagging them off because we lost/drew or waxing lyrical because they won! As for me a couple of pints, a bit of a laugh and no voice left after shouting (rather singing) for all I'm worth.

Come

On

You

Reds!

No doubt I'll bump (being the right word of use) Bungle today...he was such a Luvvie. In case he has one of those internet phones and checks on here - mines a Guinness!

Leaving Leeds at 1.30 bound for Boundary Park. Bring it on! Predicting a draw at best - whatever division we're in Saints have a terrific record for peeing on growing optimism from a great height just when it looks like things are coming together. Hopefully we'll buck that trend today. COYS.

4-4-2 Connolly to start.

Keeping the opposition guessing on system.

Although this does concern me as to whether we are strong enough in midfield to play this system?

Lets wait and see

Interesting. Connolly in for Wotton I imagine, a very attacking move.
