Jimmy_D Posted 14 October, 2009 Posted 14 October, 2009 So, it all kicks off with practice tomorrow (just about!) and I'm personally predicting Button will finish less than 5 points behind Barichello and Vettel will finish 3rd or worse for Brawn and Button to pick up the titles.
Arizona Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I've got a funny feeling the WDC will go down to the wire. Perhaps with Vettel something like 8 points behind Jenson going to Abu Dhabi. Dunno why, maybe it's just me being paranoid and not daring to believe.
Saint Paul C Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I fully expect that a directed EMP strike on JB's car at some point during the race will ensure that there will be all to play for in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi...
Ponty Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I fully expect Vettel to blow an engine and for RBR to blame Renault, despite the RS27 lump having scored more fastest race laps than any other engine on the grid, including the Mercedes which is fitted to 2 more cars than the Renault. Newey always designs aero at the expense of cooling.
Colinjb Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I fully expect Vettel to blow an engine and for RBR to blame Renault, despite the RS27 lump having scored more fastest race laps than any other engine on the grid, including the Mercedes which is fitted to 2 more cars than the Renault. Newey always designs aero at the expense of cooling. But, most importantly of all, have you finally (as is rumoured) ditched that awful livery?
Ponty Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I don't think so. I'm off work this week but I'm fairly certain we're running the same colours to the season's end. It takes all sorts of meetings and approval to change livery during the season, not to mention the fact that the chassis don't come back to the UK between Singapore and Abu Dhabi.
Michelle Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 Great memories of Brazil last year... that shot of Felipe's dad being told Lewis had won the WDC will forever remain in my memory!
Ponty Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 Yeah, it's always amusing to see an old guy, with an IV line attached, crushed in defeat. Especially when he's a foreign.
Arizona Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 Just seen the highlights from last year on the beeb website. Funny think was the BBC commentators, unlike Brundle and Allen, didn't notice Hamilton passing Glock and were convinced Massa had won the WDC until they saw the timing screnes.
Colinjb Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 Just watching pratcie 3, due to the intense rain there has only been 15 or so minutes of running. Button 3rd place but it seems the lack of temperature in the tyres could be a massive factor. Session red flagged thanks to Grosjean aquaplaning (very lucky not to flip the car as he went off!) This qualifying will be fascinating.
Um Bongo Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 ****ing down there, is it suppose to be like this tomorrow?
Colinjb Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 Vettel out in Q1! Gambling on a dry set up for tomorrow, doubt that is particularly wise...
mightysaints Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 Anyone who thinks these guys are overpaid are nuts, try driving in that rain at 150 plus. Exspect Truli to get near the top for qualifying
Arizona Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 FFS Jenson, you're really getting dragged kicking and screaming to this WDC.
Jimmy_D Posted 17 October, 2009 Author Posted 17 October, 2009 hmm, not looking so good for Button now... Barichello on provisional pole as well...
Jimmy_D Posted 17 October, 2009 Author Posted 17 October, 2009 and he's got it... wonder what his fuel was like.
Pancake Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 Holy crap. Should make for a stunning race tomorrow... Hopefully. The cars that are set up for wet should fall off and the 'dry' runners move up but still Rubens will be loving it at the moment.
badgerx16 Posted 17 October, 2009 Posted 17 October, 2009 Is Button going to do what LH did 2 years ago ?
Ponty Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 This is "Tossing away the championship par excellence". There's not much excuse for qualifying 13 places below your team mate in identical cars. That's rookie territory.
Um Bongo Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Cracking start, Safety car out. Button up to 9th 1st lap. ****ing hell. Fuel hose left on a Maclaren, ferrari set on fire!
saint lard Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Holy **** it's all going off...fire in the pit lane.
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 If this remains dry, Webber will win. Barrichello is driving wonderfully but the Red Bull should profit from the longer first stint. Kubica could also come into play. As things stand Button should finish about 5th once it all shakes out. It's almost never that sraight forward though.
St Landrew Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 This is actually quite an interesting race. Button is very fired up.
Ponty Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 This is the sort of racing that Jenson hasn't been doing of late. Much better and all things considered he should wrap it up today. Gutted to see alonso wiped out by the flying Sutil but not surprised to see Grosjean go backwards from the restart - he really looks out of his depth.
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Worst case for Button (Vettel, Hamilton and Raikonnen passing him) he will finish 7th. Leaving the gap at 9 points for Barrichello if he finishes 3rd behind Webber and Kubica. If the Gap is ten points exactly for the last race Jenson is champion by virtue of him having more wins. This is now Jenson's to lose.
Um Bongo Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Hamilton up to 3rd, Barachello down to 4th. Well played Hamilton.
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Hamilton up to 3rd, Barachello down to 4th. Well played Hamilton. 5 points for Rubens now. Button just needs a points finish...... WAIT! RUBENS HAS A PUNCTURE!!!!!!
Um Bongo Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 (edited) And Barrichello gets a puncture. Caused by Hamilton! Edited 18 October, 2009 by Um Bongo
Michelle Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Poor bloke. Good news for Jens though. And well done to our Lewis. Heikki's a flaming prat though.
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Even if Jenson now retires, Rubens will have 2 points, Vettel will get no more then a podium at best. Jenson is champion.
Um Bongo Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Slight worry about Rain. 4 Laps to go. Where have we seen this before?
saint lard Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Congrats to Jenson and well done to brawn. Not sure many would've tipped Jenson to be world Champ this year. Great debut season for Brawn.IMO.
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Congrats to Jenson and well done to brawn. Not sure many would've tipped Jenson to be world Champ this year. Great debut season for Brawn.IMO. Quite a few people after Brawn's first test! haha. 200-1, Bargain!!!
Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Yessssssssss. I never thought it, not after the second half of the year. So pleased, so utterly pleased.
Ponty Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Good race, but then Brazil usually is. Let's see if he gets his contract now.
Arizona Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Yessss!!!!!!!! F**king brilliant!!! You can't deny he has been a worthy world champion, no doubt about it. Yes he's had sh*t qualifying performances, but has ALWAYS battled back to get points. Only one nil point at Spa when he would probably have been 5th but got taken out on the first lap. Made hay when the sun was shining in the first seven races and handed Rubens' arse to him on a plate. Can't think of one serious race mistake.
Arizona Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Jensen is a lucky bugger, that's for sure. Nope. He drove a blinder, Rubens just wasn't as quick as Webber, Hammy or Kubica. He defended quite aggressively and in those scenarios contact and damage are always on the cards.
Baj Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Jensen is a lucky bugger, that's for sure. Irrelevant, even if Rubens didnt get the puncture and finished where he was, Jenson would still be world champion
Saint_Jonny Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 epic and excoting race, brilliant viewing, best race ive watched in ages, it had it all! Well done JB! two different brit world champions in 2 years!
Arizona Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 epic and excoting race, brilliant viewing, best race ive watched in ages, it had it all! Well done JB! two different brit world champions in 2 years! Anthony Davidson to win with Manor racing next season. Fact.
explorer saint Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Great weekend for me Saints and JP, get in there!! Deserved and makes you feel proud to be english get in there, the emotion in that team, good work by the bbc for a change as well
Jimmy_D Posted 18 October, 2009 Author Posted 18 October, 2009 Flippin' eck, what a drive by Jenson to win the title. Wish Rubens had got the points to win Brawn the constructors title though, he deserved at least that, but in the end the puncture denied him even that little bit of glory.
Baj Posted 18 October, 2009 Posted 18 October, 2009 Wish Rubens had got the points to win Brawn the constructors title though, uh? Brawn DID win the constructors. Do you mean wish he could have contributed?
