Jason Dodd will be the new caretaker manager at aldershot with the view to taking over permanently. Will be confirmed in the morning.

Good luck fella. I am sure the majority of Saints 'fans' will wish him well. Suspect the odd attention seeking troll will feel the need to have their say on here as per usual.

Good luck to him, maybe come to Saints for a couple of loans if needed.

Yep, just what I was thinking - he could do worse than coming in for a few of the players we've got kicking around making up the numbers - Pulis per chance?

I hope he does well and builds a successful career. This was the ideal level for him to start at,rather than being thrown in at the deep end with us on a downward spiral .

All the best Jason! Will definitely be keeping an eye out for results if he gets the job there on a permanent basis. Hopefully he'll do well for himself and make a good career in management.

As was Eastleigh, clearly a huge jump to Saints at the time but would of thought the experience will of done him some good. Good Luck

It's a worry. I have a lot of time for JD but hopes will be high at Aldershot at the moment and as you say in hindsight he left Eastleigh far to early IMO (understandable) and hadn't really finished cutting his managerial teeth. I fear he may be punching above his weight again wth this appointment but he has done well to be given the opportunity and clearly for someone eager to get back into football he could not turn it down and wait for an offer from a Conference side or something less pressurised/suitable. It's another result that we will be looking at with interest on Saturday's to come and I sincerely hope he builds on their recent success.

Was he already working with them in some capacity as it's unusual for a club to appoint a caretaker from outside the club or in this case is caretaker a metaphor for probation?

I have an acquaintance closely involved with Aldershot Supporters Club so it will be interesting to hear their views on this appointment when I have the chance. My guess is that unfortunately it won't be favourable but most managers with a similar profle to JD have the same prejudice to overcome.

I think we all wish him the best of luck as he will find a good set up left by Waddock but no money. He will need to do a bit better than he did while in temporary charge with SFC

I think Doddsy has more sense than that, anyway he is at Lincoln

Another ex saint in paul williams will be his assistant

I hope not. He's on Southampton FC's payroll. He's the coach of the Saints U12 side that my nephew is part of. Doing a good job too. We beat Charlton 4-1 on Sunday and drew 2-2 away to Arsenal a few weeks ago.

Said on Solent this morning that Paul Williams was definitely joining him as assistant. Anyway, good luck to both of them. I was quite shocked at some of the abuse Doddsy was subjected to on the forums during his extremely brief spell as caretaker with us - Alex Ferguson couldn't have turned the Saints around that quickly under the circumstances. The usual negative comments from 19c (what else?) However, when you consider his lengthy career and previous experience compared to Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, there's no reason why he should not be considered for the Aldershot job.

Well it appears my guess was wrong and some of the Aldershot faithful are very happy with the appointment of Dodd because of his connections with Saints and his premiership playing pedigree. They don't seem to have much idea about the caretaker role and I sense would prefer it if the board made a decision to appoint a manager and move forward with their choice.

However, the reason Waddock left was allegedly because since the death of Aldershot's chairman the board have lacked any sort of direction and decision making ability and so it seems he grabbed the opportunity to join Wycombe. Doesn't sound like it will be any easier for JD and things may not all be well than first appears but the fans I received messages from are very supportive of his appointment and feel the level of their football will be ideal for JD to show his worth.

I hope he proves himself.

Good luck to him. Was given the Saints opportunity at completely the wrong time, so hope he gets the chance to prove himself with the Shots.

Good luck Doddy!
