dubai_phil Posted 13 October, 2009 Share Posted 13 October, 2009 Stuck it in a different context on the main forum in meerkats ad thread but thought it worth a more expansive yak Many will have noticed that I seem to collect really crazy moments in life. Blagging tickets for World Cups or knowing all about Al Fahim at exactly the right moment. I never win anything on the lottery when I'm back but everyone calls me a lucky bstd all the time. I never thought much about it, I put it down to the old "the more I practice the luckier I get" adage or the fact that probably my only skill in life is observation. But then I saw this. Somehow the moment I read it I thought of you lot on here. Somehow I can just picture the "perma-moaners" living their lives without every actually being "lucky" ie in the right place at the right time. We all know about the mental side of keeping players minds focused, maybe we should to... But for fun, I wonder who on this forum is never very lucky... I can think of oh, one or 19 Anyone else? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/3304496/Be-lucky---its-an-easy-skill-to-learn.html

Draino76 Posted 13 October, 2009 Share Posted 13 October, 2009 This is the best part; Unlucky people often fail to follow their intuition when making a choice, whereas lucky people tend to respect hunches. Lucky people are interested in how they both think and feel about the various options, rather than simply looking at the rational side of the situation. I think this helps them because gut feelings act as an alarm bell - a reason to consider a decision carefully. Unlucky people tend to be creatures of routine. They tend to take the same route to and from work and talk to the same types of people at parties. In contrast, many lucky people try to introduce variety into their lives. For example, one person described how he thought of a colour before arriving at a party and then introduced himself to people wearing that colour. This kind of behaviour boosts the likelihood of chance opportunities by introducing variety. Lucky people tend to see the positive side of their ill fortune. They imagine how things could have been worse. In one interview, a lucky volunteer arrived with his leg in a plaster cast and described how he had fallen down a flight of stairs. I asked him whether he still felt lucky and he cheerfully explained that he felt luckier than before. As he pointed out, he could have broken his neck. Oh do behave this was supposed to be a friendly chat. Some people have the role of moaners and some have the role of story tellers. I didn't choose it, just came out that way. Anyway, happy to discuss any proof you need to see of any of the weird moments this stupid soul-less city allows you to have IF you get up and seek them out. meanwhile just to step out of my balanced character for a moment, case proven I believe peeps

He's also the least In The Know ITK'er since StDavid graced us with his presence. He is however pipped to the post in the boring stakes by the one and only StLandrew. dubai_phil Posted 14 October, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 October, 2009 Lol, at this. It was an interesting article, but never mind. WSS you are of course completely correct, and I apologise profusely that I choose not to be a sheep and post repeats of the same old drivel as around 80% of the remaining 120 active posters on here. SiP don't worry, you live in Aus, nobody else gets it. Which is why we were sent far far away And if you head back home at all via EK, let us know and stop over for a sherbert or two. Anyway just to upset our dear constant readers, had a good business meeting today, blagged my Kings of Leon & (unexpectedly) a Glasto ticket for next year. All it takes is luck... Oh & WSS - as I know nothing, could you find out who caused the very first announcement of admin Press Conference to be delayed by a few hours? Would love to know. Cheers
