On the BBC iplayer at 21.30 they will be showing the inside out programme, the South West version, this shows unseen video footage and recorded police interviews with Vanessa George.

From the snippets i have seen, it is..well,i don't know how to describe it really,i just wanted to scream at her, especially when she refuses to name the children she took photos of and the ones she abused, for the families' sake.

what really dismays me about this story (and the vanessa george one) is that these are WOMEN, and even worse than that, they are MOTHERS!!!!!..i don't mean that to sound naive or sexist, but child abuse and paedophilia has always been seen as a 'male' dominated crime (if ya know what i mean), and this has really opened my eyes to how downright evil some women can be . :(

One of the guys at work had his kids at that nursery in Plymouth. He is utterly devastated.

He deserves to know if his child was one of his victims,if he dosen't already.

I was relieved that after speaking to the police that my ex next door nieghbour, who is currently serving his sentance(only 5 months i may add) did not have any images/photos of my little boy.Saying that he did have 112 pics and videos of other parents' children,i cannot imagine what that must be like to know that has happened to your child and what effects it will have later in life.

I'm afraid to say that although the majority of paedophiles are men, there is thought to be a significant number of crimes committed by women but they either go unreported or are never discovered. Sad but true. One thing though, why do we put women on a pedestal in regards to their children? Isn't it just as awful that some fathers are also paedophiles? This supposed wonderful bond between a mother and her children is driven by societies expectations of a mother. Look at the horror on peoples faces when it's "acceptable" for a man to walk out on his children but for a mother it's unthinkable.

you're absolutely right. Women walking out on their husband and kids does seem FAR worse than when a man leaves . Like you say, it's all about societies pre-conceived idea of how a mother is supposed to 'be there' for her children, regardless of the circumstances.

i think that what hits home mostly for me (and 99% of women/mothers) is that the 'protective instinct' i have for my kids is so strong that i just cannot comprehend how any mother can betray a child's trust and take their innocence in such a savage and disgusting manner.

A father abusing his child is ,of course, an equallly disgusting act,yet we as a society seem to be more accustomed to hearing that on the news than hearing about a MOTHER doing it,ya know?

I know this is a serious subject but:

Lyons lived with her bus driver husband Davy and six of her children, aged three to 14, in a run-down four-bedroom council house in the Fratton area of Portsmouth.

Yesterday the front garden was strewn with rubbish, abandoned children's toys, black rubbish sacks and overturned flower pots.

lol.

On the other hand, I do despair at these sort of people.

The amount of Mothers that are complicit in these crimes would probably cause further dismay

shows how much you can rely on CRB checks' date=' just another government tax[/quote']

exactly......they can only check to see if you have a criminal record. obviously if you have been clever/slippery/lucky enough to avoid getting caught then there IS no record...... what a sad state of affairs that you cannot even trust an Ofsted approved centre, with all it's guidelines/mission statements/regulations etc to protect and take care of your children..... :(

Er, well they are a test for criminal records - everyone knows that is what they are and so everyone knows they are not a guarantee of good behaviour in the future. Do you not think it would be perverse not to check if someone has a record though?

(I agree that the charges for things like this though do often seem rather high)

Well, people wanting to abuse children will be attracted to jobs where there are a lot of children around. It has always been so. At the end of the day you have to delegate the responsibility to individuals and obviously they will be deceptive.

Sad but true, but it's pretty rare. Obviously our paedo-obssessed media loves to get excited about this sort of thing though.

You don't have to have a CRB check done for 3 yrs after the initial one was done.

So between the time the first check was done someone could commit a crime and then that may not come to light until you re-apply for the CRB.

CRB checks don't show any accusations of a crime commited, only if they are found guilty and convicted.

So a person could go for an age racking up accusations but if know substantial evidence is found to convict them they are free to do whatever they please.
