benjii Posted 12 October, 2009 Author Posted 12 October, 2009 Did you got to Southend away? No, but I started to come down with this on Friday afternoon. Saturday was awful (bad ear aches, really sore throat). Yesterday was better. Today the ear is nearly back to normal but the sore throat continues and I have symptoms more akin to a bad cold.
Hatch Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I feel fine. The bloke outside my office on Oxford Street, with a bendy bus on his head doesn't look to clever though.

benjii Posted 12 October, 2009 Author Posted 12 October, 2009 So let that be a lesson to anyone who thinks it's a good idea to operate a computer with their knee.

Golden Balls Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 Called in sick today! Annoyingly, I'm in my first 6 months of this job so no sick pay for me!
benjii Posted 13 October, 2009 Author Posted 13 October, 2009 Called in sick today! Annoyingly, I'm in my first 6 months of this job so no sick pay for me! Yes, I imagine that is quite annoying. As an interesting aside... did you all know that if you get ill whilst you are off work on holiday then this can be regarded as sickness absence and your holiday entitlement should not be dimished? In other words you can call in sick whilst on holiday. 'Tis the law.
Hatch Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 'Sick days' have been replaced by 'working from home days'
bungle Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 I have only ever had 2 days off work sick in my entire life. FACT.
benjii Posted 13 October, 2009 Author Posted 13 October, 2009 I have only ever had 2 days off work sick in my entire life. FACT. How utterly irresponsible.
notnowcato Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 I have only ever had 2 days off work sick in my entire life. FACT. ... and worked 3 days in total??
thesaint sfc Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 Yes, I imagine that is quite annoying. As an interesting aside... did you all know that if you get ill whilst you are off work on holiday then this can be regarded as sickness absence and your holiday entitlement should not be dimished? In other words you can call in sick whilst on holiday. 'Tis the law. Would sunburn count?
Redbul Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 (edited) Would sunburn count? Self inflicted injury. A mate of mine who was in the merchant navy decided to have a naked sunbathe on the top deck of a ship he was on as it was going down the Suez Canal; nice and quiet, noone about, thought he'd have a go at an all over. So he strips off, plonks himself in a chair, puts his feet up on the railing and then falls asleep. Wakes up a couple of hours later with a sunburnt **** and also the soles of his feet. He told me his feet were far more painful than his nadger and because he couldn't walk, he couldn't work. So, no pay AND disciplined. PS, this was a story told to me by a mate in a pub, I cannot vouch for its veracity; it may be complete bull****. Edited 13 October, 2009 by Redbul Afterthought
RonManager Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 On the other hand, what really gets my goat are those people who drag themselves into work no matter how bad they are, considering themselves to be some kind of hero/heroine, and consequently give what they've got to everybody else!!! :-x

benjii Posted 13 October, 2009 Author Posted 13 October, 2009 On the other hand, what really gets my goat are those people who drag themselves into work no matter how bad they are, considering themselves to be some kind of hero/heroine, and consequently give what they've got to everybody else!!! :-x Indeed. This is why I have not gone to work this week. I could haul myself in, breaking out in the sweats, dribbling from my nostrils and red in the face. I could then sit there for 8 or 9 hours and probably manage the equivalent of about 3 hours' slightly sub-standard work. I could repeat this all week until everyone in my vicinity has been exposed to my putrid filth and those with families/children can export it back to their houses, and so it goes on... OR I could realise that people do get ill from time to time and that when you work with mature adults they will understand that in those situations it is better for everyone if you take some time to chill-out and recover before you come in.
Ponty Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 I never believe it when anyone phones in sick. I always think they're malingering.
RonManager Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 I never believe it when anyone phones in sick. I always think they're malingering. What about when you feel ill - do you doubt yourself?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 Had a bit of a runny nose today but I soldiered on.
