Saint Bri Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 Before it was a Chinese takeaway it was 'Mrs Thripps' home made cakes and teas - and when you get to the end of the breakwater you are oop north
Gordon Mockles Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I must say, it was nice to actually read through a thread with some nice sentiments & polite conversation (& random geographical facts re: levels) without politics & descending into petty arguments by the usual baiters. The thread was about Oldham tickets so perhaps the title put off those computer desk wind up merchants that pretend to watch the games, but still. Nice to read a bit of nostalgia from some of the good old boys! Warmed my heart a bit although maybe I'm getting a bit sentimental in my old age. The club start winning away, defending set pieces, hit the positive points tally, receive tremendous support, bang in a dozen goals (many from open play) in our last 4 games, string together a run of results that have us top of the Soccer am League One table & now we're having threads that actually cheer you up after reading (rather than frustrate with barbed comments & bizarre, fickle opinion)...whatever happened to raise the happiness level on this forum & quash some of the inane apathy?! Wonders will never cease! This Swiss gang & Pardew assemble really are very good aren't they! ;0) Oh, off topic slightly so apologies. I can't make Oldham but have my tickets for Orient. 2500 Saints fans & a day out in the big smoke...can't wait!! [i know it's not rocket science but paying attention & respecting the hordes of your loyal paying customers, diligent actions & researched decisions combined with a balanced & wise manager & coaching team (with experience of the appropriate level) buying a few key players alongside wise free transfers & keeping hold of the emerging stars we've developed (without selling them at the first sniff of an offer)... Well, it's what we've been praying & wishing for for years! It just seemed common sense deluded anyone who stepped inside the SFC boardroom in recent years!] ;0)
ghq Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 What's the lowest ground? Have to be Fratton Park. If not, certainly contains the lowest supporters.
saintwiz Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 Where does 'up north' start and therefore defining where the country disappears into a **** hole??? I would suggest Didcot as that is where I have been working for the last three years and that is one hel lof a dump!I am currently in Dudley which re defines the ass hole of the world!... and take it from me I have seen some ****e places. I lived in Stoke for three years....and yes it is pretty near the rim! ... Althought I thought Carlisle was probably somewhere near the rids. Milcombe
Eastcowzer Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 Of course not!!! My first hse there when I was a baby 1956-58!!Think it is a Chinese rest now just as you come off the ferry. Dover Road?? No taken from Egypt point!! 'Thrippleton's' meat pies. famous through out the Island. A real bag filler for a trip to Oldham. And a flask of Crowleys Alton Bitter to wash it down. Think the shop remained as a conventional cafe before the Orientals moved in to the 'Jade Garden'
St Michael Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 What's the lowest ground? The lowest league ground is Grimsby's Blundell Park (actually in nearby Cleethorpes) which is two metres above sea level.
krissyboy31 Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 (edited) The lowest league ground is Grimsby's Blundell Park (actually in nearby Cleethorpes) which is two metres above sea level. Note it says feet, not yards or Mtrs. If the Ice caps melt, we're buggared!! Edited 13 October, 2009 by krissyboy31
opthomps Posted 13 October, 2009 Posted 13 October, 2009 totally agree with stipulated shyt holes, but as someone who has lived in derbyshire for 17 yrs I can see that there are good and bad places in north and south (and even within counties themselves, just in different ways. I wouldnt consider Portsmouth to be a nice city any more than I would Barnsley or Stoke. I actually enjoy going to the utter carp stadiums sometimes. Should try to enjoy them whilst down there if you can as we wont be there for long!
dune Posted 14 October, 2009 Posted 14 October, 2009 I've just found out that Oldham doesn't have a rail link anymore.
RonManager Posted 14 October, 2009 Posted 14 October, 2009 I've just found out that Oldham doesn't have a rail link anymore. Discussed in full early in the thread.
SaintRobbie Posted 14 October, 2009 Posted 14 October, 2009 What's the lowest ground? Dead Sea United, Israeli football team.
yorkie Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 Should be a fun day out - wrap up warm it's gonna be a cold damp one! Not sure what pub will be the first port of call - but I can taste that first pint already!
EFM Posted 15 October, 2009 Posted 15 October, 2009 I'm getting really really ****ed off this season missing some cracking away holes which in previous seasons I'd have gone to. Can anyone lend me about £1,000? You can't get f'ing anywhere on Incapacity Benefit and the thought of Carlisle, Oldham and Hartlepool would be a must in the past. My nephew up in Sunderland and I'm determined to make Hartlepool to see him and Saints at least. Did I mention would anyone lend me about £10,000?
dannysfc Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 700 now sold Wow That's Pretty Good Going Out Of 1000 Tickets Or Somethin n Can You Still Pay On The Day Or Not Now?! Thanks ! Saints Till I Die !
Antrimsaint Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 one of the few matches i can make being in merseyside. If anyone has spare tickets will gladdly pay. Need two together if poss? can meet up on the day.
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 shouldnt be a problem to get tickets on the day, just wait until the Travel Club arrive and get the returned tickets. I have been told to pick mine up from the ticket office in Oldham
oldsarum Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 one of the few matches i can make being in merseyside. If anyone has spare tickets will gladdly pay. Need two together if poss? can meet up on the day. I think I have one spare, tickets are unreserved, tickets on day cost £2 more, I'll be at ground around 2.45 if anyone interested or Picadilly Station at 11.08 with the rest of London Saints
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 Local radio reporting heatwave warning for Oldham area tomorrow with daytime temperatures set to reach 14c.
Genk Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 That's more like it. That was yesterday morning. Thursdays & Todays sales combined with people buying on the day, I think we will have close to 1000 which is good
pap Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 I'm buying on the day. What time does the Travel Club normally arrive?
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 16 October, 2009 Posted 16 October, 2009 Oldhams average attendance this season is only 4,500. With about 700 + Saints fans it should be easy to outsing the home fans (if there are any) :-)
