Thedelldays Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I went to boundry park in the early 90's when we lost 4-3 in their great escape season. The place is an utter sh1t hole

ooohTerryHurlock Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 It's ooop north. Where does 'up north' start and therefore defining where the country disappears into a **** hole??? I would suggest Didcot as that is where I have been working for the last three years and that is one hel lof a dump!I am currently in Dudley which re defines the ass hole of the world!... and take it from me I have seen some ****e places. I lived in Stoke for three years....and yes it is pretty near the rim! ... Althought I thought Carlisle was probably somewhere near the rids.

I live in South Staffs so I'm up north compared to Aaaampshire. I work in and around Sandwell so I've very familiar with Dudley and having worked in Stoke for 3 years myself I feel your pain. I would suggest the North starts at M6 J14.
View From The Top Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 How many sold so far? Got my ticket I bought 4 this AM and I can imagine we will sell out.
Draino76 Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I played on their plastic pitch in the early 90's. I grazed mai Kneeee. Agreed; shthole.

I worked in Didcot for three years as well and agree it is a bit of a hole, but to say it's the start of the sh*t hole that is 'Up north' is a tad wrong in my view, there are some very nice villages and towns in North Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, however as soon as you get anywhere near Birmingham things get decidedly grim, especially when you travel between Brum and Wolverhampton, when I travelled that way a few years back it looked like Hiroshima or Nagasaki with buildings knocked into heaps of rubble.
fromthedell Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 I went to boundry park in the early 90's when we lost 4-3 in their great escape season. The place is an utter sh1t hole think that was the last match of the season tiss got a hatrick joe royle kept oldham up with that result was it flowers last match not to sure but he did throw his glove to the saints fans and my son was only young he still has it
AndyD Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 I played on their plastic pitch in the early 90's. I grazed mai Kneeee. Agreed; shthole. Me too - I have scored a penalty on there too! A good omen?
ivangolac Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 I went to Oldham on a Tuesday (?) night in the early 90's . I remember going through the the turnstile , across a muddy field , up an even muddier bank and arriving at the back of the terrace . A complete ****hole , wonder if it's changed much ......
RonManager Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 I had to go to Oldham last year to get a length of wide bore steam pipe bent 30 degrees (only place in the country that could do it), I'm sure you'll be interested to hear. Whilst waiting for the job I wandered around the stereotypical 'Coronation Street' style terraced back streets of Oldham and found an excellent cafe that still sold pint mugs of tea. It was a glorious sunny day which can make the world's worst sh1thole feel acceptable (oh alright, Skatesmouth excepted). I could see the ground from where I was but did not venture closeby. On Saturday I shall return and seek out this cafe. Now to find a another piece of pipe that needs bending while I'm watching the football.
saintquin Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 Boundry Park is the highest ground in England I seem to remember reading somewhere.
yorkie Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 I do smile at all this "Up north S h i t hole" Have you taken a look at Southampton lately? I left nearly 20-years ago and apart from visits to SMS, walks theough town down to Town Quay from Bedord Place - I would say some of you should look closer to home! As far as where do the Southern s h i t holes start - I would suggest from about south of Doncaster...but that's a southerners take on it!

Surely you mean North of Doncaster Yorkie?, i've been unfortunate enough to visit there a few times now, and Donnie is a real sh*t pit, and is as depressing as french or swedish art house cinema. Rotherham's not much better either!
Granadino Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 Boundry Park is the highest ground in England I seem to remember reading somewhere. Nope, I'm quite sure it's The Hawthorns (league ground that is, highest non-league is Buxton).

krissyboy31 Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 Nope, I'm quite sure it's The Hawthorns (league ground that is, highest non-league is Buxton). Correct, but Boundary Park is pretty high and bloody cold as the wind whips off Saddleworth Moor.

Well other sources say: West Bromwich Albion at 551 feet. Port Vale's ground is at 525 feet, Accrington Stanley 515 feet and Oldham Athletic at 509 feet. or Hawthorns 168 mtrs, Boundary Park 155 Mtrs. Edited 11 October, 2009 by krissyboy31

bangkoksaint Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 Can you get tickets on the day? For some reason SFC cant get their act together over memberships...................anyone any ideas? BTW...............I dont live in Bangkok but in Cheshire, that's 'up north' and it's actually quite nice. All be it it rains all the time and is miles from the real 'Theatre of Dreams!'
Right sider Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 (edited) Boundry Park is the highest ground in England I seem to remember reading somewhere. Sorry that would be the Hawthorns WBA. I too went to the Franny Benali game in 93(?) Matty scored a hattrick, Oldham, avoided relegation and Pompey missed out on Promotion losing to palace(could be wrong). Crap ground, good day though. I agreethat Southampton is a pretty poor state but at least in our fair city there is still hope...... Birmingham has gone man..... It just needs flattening and starting again the place is cack.... you can't even find a decent cafe to get a full monty!!

Saint_Jonny Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 450 sold so far is that it? God I hope more than that come up!
M271 Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I would have thought that our attendance would be similar to the Carlisle match i.e. 950'ish.
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I will most probably pay on the day.. I've gotta clear it with the missus first :-(
dune Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I will pay on the day. It says on the OS that we've received an initial allocation of 1000 which implies more are available if needed. I was thinking about when we played Oldham in the Premier League the other day. Anyone remember us winning 4-3 up there?
badgerx16 Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 I would suggest the North starts at M6 J14. From my position, Oldham is technically south. Just don't fall into the trap of assuming 'oop north' is a single entity; on the dark side of t'Pennines you get the Yorkies, Mackems, and Geordies, on God's side you get the Lankys and the Cumbrians. In my judgement, start at the Dee, follow the Mersey before skirting south of Manc and across the Peak District, ( Cheshire and southern Derbyshire are part of the Midlands ), and then take a line across the south of Tykeland to the southern bank of the Humber to mark the 'border', keeping Lincolnshire as the northern part of eastern England. Here endeth the lesson.
badgerx16 Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 Boundry Park is the highest ground in England I seem to remember reading somewhere. It is certainly the coldest.

Yes, but that doesn't mean that if more than 1000 turn up on the day they will give us extra tickets. Better to book in advance.

Yorkshire nothing gets my goat more than to be lumped in with ****neys, because all southerners are the same. I have nothing in common with London, Oxford, Brighton, Bristol, Plymouth or P*rtsmouth for that matter!

Partly because her mother who is on her own and is seventy lives in Stourbridge. She has other relatives in Kidderminster, and her brother lives in Brierley Hill. Where are the desirable areas to live in South Staffs? Good secondary school a priority. Myself I am a teacher also. You are right about Dudley itself it is a **** hole.
dune Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 What's the lowest ground? Ashton Gate (2 metres belowe sea level.
benjii Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 Ashton Gate (2 metres belowe sea level. Thank you, that is interesting. I have therefore been to the lowest ground in English league football. Excellent.
Alan56 Posted 12 October, 2009 Posted 12 October, 2009 Hope you arnt including east cowes in that! Of course not!!! My first hse there when I was a baby 1956-58!!Think it is a Chinese rest now just as you come off the ferry. Dover Road?? No taken from Egypt point!!
