S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Just about to start on Soccer AM..... We could face any of these.... Northampton Town MK Dons Leyton Orient Hereford United Norwich City Swindon Town Charlton Athletic
saints_is_the_south Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Northampton at home,please.... +1.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I want Swindon away, so they can go and bury the demons of what was probably our worst display of the season. Swindon wouldn't recognise our team this time around!
S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 Northampton at home,please.... I'd go with that...
dickyhale Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Any one home but wait and see all the SO called fans moaning about price, we not going and no more than a reserve game. I expect these people will be at Wembley if we get there. Wait and see
S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 Northern Draw... Leeds v Grimsby Accrington/Shrewsbury v Bury Bradford City v Portvale Chesterfield v Carlisle
saint lard Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I think Leeds will cruise through to the final
brightspark Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Seems easier to be a Leeds than all of us poor buggars in the south!!!
saints_is_the_south Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 MK Dons V Northampton Leyton Orient V Hereford United Swindon Town V Norwich City Southampton V Charlton
S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 Southern Draw... MK Dons v Northampton Leyton Orient v Hereford Swindon v Norwich Saints v Charlton
S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 cracking that we've got it at home....tough game all the same though. has this competition ever had a draw like that?
Toadhall Saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Yes - AP will have a real point to prove against Charlton
alehouseboys Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Any one home but wait and see all the SO called fans moaning about price, we not going and no more than a reserve game. I expect these people will be at Wembley if we get there. Wait and see Calm down, we got the biggest attendance in round. People were entitled to raise an eyebrow at having to pay £15 on the night for this competition, never paid that for a 'reserve' game btw, however, I'd guess the club will look at this again adjust prices accordingly.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 At least it should attract a decent crowd!
brightspark Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 At least its at home. If you want to win a cup, you have to beat the best - that's what both teams will be thinking I feel!!!
Smirking_Saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Lets prove a point to this division with this game
Saint Charlie Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Home draw, can't ask for more than that. And if we win then the 2nd best team in southern section are out.
S-Clarke Posted 10 October, 2009 Author Posted 10 October, 2009 What date is this game? 10th/11th Nov.
JustMike Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 pleased with this draw, if we are serious about this cup then we have to beat the better teams. hopefully the crowd will be better, they should bring a few too. Oh and AP, im sure would love it if we beat them ;-)

It was 10 quid in advance TBF At a tenner a time we aren't making much money on the game - 9,000 - with the kids in there probably about 60k in takings. It is meant to try and make people buy in advance so the club can staff the game properly, open enough stands/refreshment areas/stewards order enough pies etc If fans couldn't phone up or internet to get the cheap ticket then the club has to open up the ticket office and staff it for a possibly large walk up. If 15 quid is such an issue then save 33.3% by going online
saint lard Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 That's a tasty draw. Will be difficult, however not beyond us to go all the way.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 beat Charlton, we'll win it. what if we get Norwich away in the semis and then Leeds in the final?

If 15 quid is such an issue then save 33.3% by going online I wouldn't argue with any of that just that, for a competition with little appeal for many and always one of those games that would attract a last-minute-decision, £15 was a bit steep on-the-night. Maybe not such an issue for buying in advance next time what with the opposition.
Toomer Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Beat Charlton there will half a chance of a good day out at Wembley
Brussels Saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Ultimately to get to the final, its likely we would have had to play Charlton at some point, so to get them at home is a big plus. IF we knock them out, my money is definitely on a Wembley trip in March v Leeds, 90K fullhouse........Magic!
Colinjb Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 what if we get Norwich away in the semis and then Leeds in the final? Simples. Beat them, we win it.
Minsk Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 what if we get Norwich away in the semis and then Leeds in the final? Beat them both AND whoever we get in the game in between. FYI, after we have beaten Charlton we will have a one legged semi (hopefully at home again) then a two leg Southern region final, and then our day at Wembley probably against dirty Leeds.

Hang on, that means there are 4 rounds to go, not three. So why is this referred to as a "quarter final" ?
Saint_clark Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Hang on, that means there are 4 rounds to go, not three. So why is this referred to as a "quarter final" ? Because there are two finals.
alpine_saint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Because there are two finals. Ah. Its like the NFL then
Saint_clark Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I hope they move the kick-off time back at least half an hour, I really want to go to these games.
saint boggy Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 we also have the FA Cup round 1 and 2 draws in November......if we get drawn at home for both of those (providing we get through round 1,obviously), we will have 5 home games in November!!!!!!....:smt103 SMS will start to feel like our 2nd home!!!.....
Andy_Porter Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 We can beat anyone in the JPT at home so getting Charlton doesn't really matter. Should get a decent turn out for that one if it's 7.50 again.
jam Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Ah. Its like the NFL then Here's the competition page on the FL site: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/JohnstonesPaintTrophy/0,,10794,00.html The panel on the right shows the structure; regional final is two legs then a day out to Wembley.

Yep, realistically we should feel confident to beat Charlton. They couldn't beat us at their place and we've strengthened since then. If the players don't think that they can beat any team in this competition then something is wrong. Although it is noticeable that we can be unsettled by teams getting in amongst us. I hope Pardew is trying to address that.
Dog Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Johnstone's Paint Trophy Saturday, 10th October 2009, 12:00 Leeds 4/1 Carlisle 14/1 Shrewsbury 28/1 Charlton 11/2 Bradford 18/1 Bury 28/1 MK Dons 6/1 Chesterfield 20/1 Grimsby 28/1 Norwich 8/1 Leyton Orient 20/1 Hereford 33/1 Southampton 8/1 Northampton 22/1 Accrington Stanley 50/1 Swindon 12/1 Port Vale 22/1 Worth a bet??
Scudamore Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 If we beat Charlton we will win this trophy. They've reformatted the competition have they?
Tac-tics Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 what if we get Norwich away in the semis and then Leeds in the final? we'll win
westofshannonsaint Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 So, now that we have Charlton at home, should we put out our strongest 11 and take this "worthless" cup seriously? my vote is yes!
Pilchards Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 To be honest with you, the quickest we get knocked out the better chance we have of reaching the championships. That's my gut feeling however the chance of saints fans going to wembley is a dream come true as I still hear the Cardiff 2003 experience ringing in my ears now.

That's my gut feeling however the chance of saints fans going to wembley is a dream come true as I still hear the Cardiff 2003 experience ringing in my ears now. That's total rubbish. We need to get the winning feeling back and that includes tinpot cup games. It's only another 4 games if we get to the final and winning it would be a massive boost to the fans, players, owners, city etc
hamster Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I think Leeds will cruise through to the final Like they were gonna walk this league 3 years on the trot? This is why we love cup competitions, 2 teams, 90 minutes, 1 winner. Even if Leeds get to the final, there would on paper be 3 or 4 Southern teams that should give them one hell of a game at wembley. personally I don't think that they will make it though.
hamster Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 The final is on March 28th, I have told mrs h that I would like tickets for my birthday, a night in the smoke with show and dinner the night before and I will be a happy fan.
