This season would obviously have the added advantage of a day out at Wembley and although you do win a trophy as play-off winners, finishing 6th would have a somewhat hollow ring to it IMO. Given our lack of actual bona fide trophies won over the years (never won the championship of either top 2 divisions), I'd prefer actually wining the title next season to enable us to put something 'real' next to the samurai sword. Win a title next year for me please. The championships!!!

I could not care about a day out at wembley. Give me 2nd place over the playoffs any day of the week Completely agree, but the players will not throw their toys out of the pram and all demand to leave if we don't get promotion this year.

Today, now, in this league? of course he is IF we sold Lambert in January we get somebody even BETTER for the job we need doing. Simple, we don't bank the money and BS the fans that Patto is now ready to step up (He will but not yet) Fundamental shift. If we have a happy squad and a solid spirit then the idea of swapping weekly games for treble the money to sit in the reserves in the PL becomes a different equation, many may well stay I absolutely agree. As usual - one (me) should read the entire post before commenting ;-)
Pedro Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Play off final against Bristol Rovers and Lambert scoring the winner in injury time. Bet some of you wish you were on what I am.

If you with "lately" mean 'not since yesterday afternoon, you're right. After another great win it will take a day before the doom mongers come out to play again. Just like the players lost their winning mentality, so did we, and for many fans it is taking a long time to recover after years of disappointments. I'm surely not the only one who have this little chap on my shoulder shaking his head, mumbling "it can't last", am I. Others are more badly affected and still meet every set back with a knee jerk moan about the manager.

Considering Trotman, for example. If we are a solid, winning side in January, with gates in excess of 20000. Would he like to go back to Preston for a future career in CCC as third choice or does our future look more attractive? I wouldn't hurry back up t'north without thinking about it first.

And I thought he'd fallen out with the manager up there - so lets get something agreed re transfer.
Ludwig Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 I don't think play-offs are unrealistic, we're what, 13 points off the pace? Considering 'how bad' our start has been, had we not had the deduction we'd 'only' be 3 points off the play-offs. We can do it.

shurlock Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Every time a manager in this league says we're in contention - lets not discount that part of it self-serving bullsh*t. Easier to account for or justify a defeat by claiming that you were up against strong team, especially one with our reputation and size.
