Absolutely immense tonight. Jaidi won everything in the air. Harding was up against a very trick right winger, but had him in his pocket all night long. Not an easy task as Southend tried to play some nice stuff and send the ball out wide.

Have been very impressed with both Harding and Jaidi all season.

Harding has only had one bad game, and that was against Bristol Rovers. In his defence, Mills didn't do him any favours by not getting close enough to his man, but that's for another day! Dan could prove to be one of our best signings this season, especially considering we snapped him up on a free.

As for Jaidi, well what can you say? We've missed a defender with his aerial presence for years, and the guy is a monster. He wins at least 80% of his headers and he's such a calming influence at the back. Another top draw signing from Pards!

I was more impressed with Trottman and James tonight if i'm honest, thought Harding gave the right winger far too much space. Their winger was good though, I'd imagine he'd give James all sorts of problems as well.

Probably being overly critical, the whole defence looks solid, can't really complain.

Every team needs a defender like Jaidi - no matter what division you are in. It still amazes me that we went so many seasons without any manager addressing this as a priority.

This is one of my main critisicms of harding, he always seems to stay of his man a little. Giving them a bit of space. However the man is still our best all round left back since bridge

Im loving the fact that we have 7 players over 6ft in our team now, adds so much strength to the team.

Good point. We'll be well prepared for the CCC in two years time at this rate. Pardew knows his game alright.

Agreed !

when we started the season with Thomas, Perry and Lancashire at the back, I was quite worried. We needed ( I considered )...someone built like " a brick s**t house " in the back four, (and even if the aforementioned constructions don't move so fast) ...you don't run into them twice - if you can avoid it.

I think he's an inspired signing, good choice AP.

Lets hope we will be able to keep our players for next season and they dont move on to higher division clubs always a danger with the likes of Lambert Schenderlein and Lallana

Yes Jaidi is exactly the big strong defender we've have obviously needed for some time - the real credit however for players of this class joining must be given to Markus Liebherr . We are getting good CCC level players to come here because we are probably paying them CCC type wages , that frankly has more to do with the depth of ML pockets rather than any inspired player selection from the manager .

Yep!!! But doesn't it make such a brilliantly refreshing change?!!

Yes, it certainly does. Furthermore, there is no financial imperative that we have to sell any player if a higher league club comes knocking. If we want to keep a player, we can tell them to go and get lost unless they offer stupid money. Players here could still decide to go and then it would be better to have them go if they don't want to be here. But the players are now part of an exciting new era where they have the choice of hanging on for a year or two and being in the top flight anyway, or going to a top flight team and warming the bench, much like Surman. I bet he regrets not being here now under our new circumstances.

Really? Harding? I thought he had a poor game by his standerd's last night. Gave away a silly free kick which they scored from and got caught out of posision too much. His whole wing got exposed all night. I like Harding normally and rate him as one of our best players but didn't have a great game at Southend. But I'll blame the pitch :D

I assume Harding wasnt so exposed as in the Bristol match.

Who played ahead of him ?

It was Lallana playing ahead of him. I wouldn't saw he was left exposed really, their right back didn't really get forward much and it was hardly ever a 2v1 situation. Harding was just up against a very good right winger and seemed to leave him in lots of space.

At times he seems to play a third centre back rather than a full back, he does usually manage to get a across in time to be fair to him.

He's usually closer to Jaidi than the right winger, he obviously knows what he's doing it's not like we're shipping goals because of him and he's a threat going forward.

He's isn't a patch on Bale but he's better than Skacel, Surman, Vignal, Mills etc

Such an absurd statement that he's our best left back since Bridge. Le Saux and Bale are way ahead of him. Also Vignal. Bare in mind Harding is playing left back for a league one team right now. He's not even the best one in the league.

He's good. Don't get carried away.

I would think that the 500,000 a year in mortgage and the few hundred grand a year in interest payments to Aviva and Barclays that the club are no longer paying is going some way to paying a good chunk of their wages. That doesn't mean that I think Mr Leibherr isn't putting money into the club in other area's or for the other part of the wage bill.

I'd be surprised if the club is currently operating at anywhere near the level of loss it was last season, and is probably not that far off of break even, with the increase in attendances and season ticket sales coupled with the cost cutting which was carried out.

Although according to the few down the road we still owe millions to all the creditors!

Vignal?

Are you serious?

Without Surman going we would have been out of business, so dont bad mouth the lad for leaving please, as he is one of us!

Vignal was probably our best player after John in the second half of last season. When he got his mojo back he was a top CCC fullback. Much as I rate Harding, I'd say Vignal just edges it.

Did I miss something? I thought that we did go out of business. You mean that we might have gone out of business sooner, perhaps and got up to speed earlier as a result?

Anyway, where did I bad mouth him? He had the opportunity to leave a team sinking into the third division and take his chance of playing in the Premiership. I can't blame him for that, but it might yet turn out that Wolves are back in the Fizzy Pop next season and it is faintly possible that we might be there too. Taking your comment that he is one of us, then I suspect that my feeling that he might have preferred in retrospect to be playing here rather than warming the Wolves bench is possibly correct.
