S-Clarke Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 A lot of people wewre saying Trotman .. I'll be very happy if we get to keep him, but his ggood forn will be noticed by his hoest cub ( FFS who ) Th efact is Pardew has identifiedd weaknessess and done somethinhg about it Most people at PNE believe his ship has sailed there, and Pard's (when asked in the fans forum) did sound v keen to sort something permanent out in January.
trousers Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Not sure Trousers has any left tbh Don't count on it....I'm filling up here

Dark Munster Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Could not be happier. Great result, fantastic performance from team and fans alike, squad looking strong, good team spirit, fantastic management team, great attendances, one sensible billionaire owner. & 3 points off play off form! COYR! Have I made you even happier?
corsacar saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Onwards and upwards, sounds like a terrific performance. I am absolutely delighted, especially for Markus Liebherr.
Nexstar Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 We've played some brilliant football in the last week and are only 1 point from hauling ourselves off the bottom of the table. Possible abit early to tell but if we keep this run going and Connolly does well with Murty back from injury then perhaps we could look towards the play-offs.
Stepgar Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 (edited) I genuinly think that if we don't quite make promotion this year if we continue this kind of progress and keep the players we have got and build further, next season could see promoted with considerable ease. We will be the most feared team i the league - if we are not becoming so already. Well done Alan P. And more importantly thank you Mr Liebherr (Spelling) You have really bought the feel good factor back to Southampton. Long may it continue. l Edited 9 October, 2009 by Stepgar
saint simes Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Great result, well done to the the lads and management. Listened on the radio, really got to give a big "get in " to our travelling fans tonight, absoloutly awesome! AP's red army was all you could hear on the radio 2nd half! Bl**dy great!!
trousers Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Onwards and upwards, sounds like a terrific performance. I am absolutely delighted, especially for Markus Liebherr. Aye. He must be a happy man tonight. After 4 months he can now see the potential in this team, and in this city, with his own eyes. We salute you mr liebherr! Freedom of the city if/when we return to the top flight?

Genk Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 On train home now. Great result tonite. Lallana looked class and once again some of our passing and movement in the first half was very very good. Support war awesme!
Teddy Nutkins Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Great win fellas, makes the weekend.Couple of sherbits me thinks.:smt033

Justin C Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 My view is that we are building a team to go up in the automatic places next year, but if things go well we could sneak and it would be a sneak into the play offs this year. i would be happy with a 10th finish with a good squad built for next year. However next season may not be a walk over league especially (i know there are problems with them) if Notts County come up with money. But the atmosphere at saints seems great already and we have not set the world alight!
trousers Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 You don't think he spotted it before then...!!!! Of course, but he may have been having a few grains of doubt after the first couple of months of the season? Actually, he hasn't had pessimism engrained in his psyche like lifelong saints fans so maybe not!
saint1977 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Great display and result. Momentum building now and we are hitting our straps. Connolly will give Lambert an outlet and Saga needs to raise his game to get into the first XI.

Connolly will give Lambert an outlet and Saga needs to raise his game to get into the first XI. I would have liked to see Connolly on for last ten minutes, although shutting up shop as we did was probably the best tactic on reflection.
offix Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 15 points so far. Without even having a proper pre-season! Awesome.
Cabrone Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Brilliant. Was getting concerned about our lack of wins but the last few games have really taken the pressure off. The team have to now take the confidence that is building and run with it.
stevegrant Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 On my way back now... we were superb in the first half, probably Lallana's best individual performance of his career so far, Southend just couldn't get near him. Notable mentions for Schneiderlin and Lambert going forward and Paul Wotton for a sterling holding job in front of the back 4. Couldn't do anything with their goal, great strike from the free-kick.
Genk Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 hats off to you fella - sounded awesome on the radio. esp. the lambert chant! Was great to get that one going. Hopefully cn get it going in the Northam properly now. Just to add, morgan, lallana and hammond best 3 on the pitch. Morgan didnt dive, he was clipped

He's everything you want in a midfielder...

Just to add, morgan, lallana and hammond best 3 on the pitch. Morgan didnt dive, he was clipped There was definitely contact, but unfortunately Morgan decided he had to over-exaggerate the fall with a twist as he fell - as a result, I wasn't at all surprised to see the ref give the decision the other way.
St_Tel49 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Am I allowed to say that I think that we have finally bottomed out. The only way is up :-)
trousers Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 On my way back now... we were superb in the first half. can you put your finger on why our second half performance wasn't as productive as the first? Did Southend improve or did we step off the gas? Cheers...plaudits for bring part of a superb away support. Sounded superb on the radio!
Under Weststand Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Just in from work Great result at last things seem to be coming together. sounds like we bossed the game & at last we are starting to put the ball in the back of the net. Seems like Lallana has found his proper position as the goals are flowing, LONG may it continue.
RinNY Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Finally we seem on the right track: two good league wins in a row, a solid defence, goal scoring forwards, strong midfield: Pardew is winning me over, especially with his signings: Waigo, Jaidi, and now Connolly ... it keeps getting better!
Wes Tender Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Sounds as if Schneiderlin had a storming game running the midfield. Also Lallana appears to be growing in stature and confidence with every match and really ought to have had a hat trick. I think that we can forgive him though for the easy one he missed scoring, in view of the other two. Whereas I have been a stern critic of Wotton, he has done a good job as the holding midfielder protecting the centre backs, who in turn have been solid. Lambert again has been very industrious and I suspect that he ties up the defenders as the main threat, allowing others to score. What with Papa and the new boy Antonio both offering pace out wide for the squad and Mills making a decent option as a sub to add fresh legs if called on to close down a game, all of a sudden we are starting to look the real deal. So far, all of the Pardew signings have been spot on. Although the Torquay match was poor, because we scraped a win, the confidence that inspired must have helped towards the right attitude to this match. Three wins in a row is a real boost and now that we are in positive points, we have 5 and are starting to cause the teams above us to look nervously over their shoulders. If we can string another few wins together, we can gain the momentum to provide ourselves with the springboard towards the play off places if we are mid table by the turn of the year.
Belgiansaint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Great result and nice to see that two of the players who were rested on Tuesday got on the scoresheet, which also tells about AP's apparent very sound squad management IMO.
Griffo Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Quality atmosphere and a quality win. Good night all round.
St Marco Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Finally on me way home yay. Was just taking to a Southend bunch of lads, were really nice guy's and praised our team. One said Jaidi was like a minesweeper. Anything goes near him they will be destroyed and he will not have a scratch on him, made me laugh! I will probably be singing red army in my sleep tonight as we had it going for a long long time! The fans were superb and it just makes you feel so happy to see them like that after what has happened to us over recent years. It reminds you what a real supporter is. The weather was awful and it was cold, the drive was a pain in da ass but seeing the rampaging red nutters makes it all worth it in the end On to the game..... For the first 15 mins again we were superb, we came out and really had a go and got a deserved goal. Then Lallana tried to be ****y with a chance that 9 times out of 10 i could of put away and missed. It should of been 0-2. Then came their free kick from a Harding foul which the ref booked him for (more about him later). It was a quality strike by their guy, will look forward to seeing that on the highlights. Then after that it was all us. And before you knew it Papa had done a bit of magic and somehow got the ball into Lallana and it was 2-1, and then again and it was 3-1. Half time. 2nd half we dominated from start to finish. We did not get the clear chances we had before but they had nothing. Our back 4 were simply outstanding. It makes a huge difference (literally) having a big powerful back line to what we have had over previous seasons. To get past them was unlikely and you might get your leg kicked off if you tried. So a very good performance all round, even Wotten played well i felt. Man of the match is difficult to say but i would give it to either Hammond or Morgan. Morgan had one of his best games i thought and showed in difficult conditions his passing skills. If he can do that in the cold windy rain in a little ground then he can do it anywhere. Hammond put in the type of display we have now come to expect from him. He broke up the play's when he could and got us going in the other direction with simple passing, people should look at his style of play because he really is a quality player. If Kelvin ever left our club he would be the new captain without any shadow of a doubt. Now onto the ref......I have no clue how many games i have seen in my life, probably in the tens of thousands who knows, but this ref has to be the worst i have ever seen bar none. James got punched and he did nothing, Laurent was running around doing killer tackles that in some cases were late and not even a booking. Morgan got done for diving when it was a clear penalty and any time on of their guy's fell over the whistle went. I think it was Lallana who was in the box and was having his shirt pulled off! It was disgraceful. We probably should of had at least 2 more goals from this game. If Southend had gone on to win the game it would of been criminal, the ref looked like he was trying to do that at any chance he got. If Laurent ran into our box and did a swallow dive without a player near him he would of given 2 penalties, that was the type of ref he was. I hope Pardew complains about him because he and the linesmen were fecking awful So good game of footie, one we deserved to win. Marks a good week for us winning 3 from 3. Well done lads!
WGC Saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 What a fantastic feeling this is. How long have we waited for a week like this? Keeps it up Pard's and the boys. Just bought my tickets for the O's away game on the strength of this result. Faith restored..........
glkdcdes Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Just got back from game. Got to say i watched a team tonight. Defenders that defended, midfielders that passed and chased all night and forwards that looked like they could score given half the chance....Could see a real spirit and good signs like the defence talking to each other, encouraging each other, very disciplined. Up front Lallana and Lambert starting to play really well together. Papa on a few occasions scaring the defence, should have scored. Loved the way the defenders didnt mess around, clearing the ball out of play not trying any thing fancy. Harding again was brilliant, having said that they were all brilliant. To be fair Southend werent good but was a real good team performance tonight. Most pleasing thing though is seeing the progress, dont get me wrong we are not the finished article, but for the first time in too long i can see a team coming together. Second half we pretty much snuffed the game out, couldnt see them scoring if we were still playing. Also our support was awesome 8500 crowd and we made more noise than the rest of the ground. Absolutely brilliant.........
Tac-tics Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Any mention of what Southend made of us? Away fans, you were brilliant tonight.
Tac-tics Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 http://www.shrimperzone.com/vb/showthread.php?t=55106 They apparently deserved the win according to some.
RonManager Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 I see they are worried about administration. I wonder how many teams will go under this season.
Saint_clark Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Funny how none of them are discussing the Barnard punch on James.
JustMike Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 hats off to you fella - sounded awesome on the radio. esp. the lambert chant! just got back from game was an awesome atmosphere from our lot, especially in the 2nd half. Im going to be singing that Lambert one in my sleep :-) ...he stand at over 6 foot 3 ricky ricky... ;-)
Arizona Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Just back, decent team performance, and we got the result to match. The James incident - didn't see it only James crouching over on the ground, can't really comment. Schneiderlin's 'penalty' - Looked a bit like he left a leg out knowing he'd lost the ball. Baj swore he didn't make contact, I thought he caught the trailing leg. Either way he was definitely looking for it. Our best players were Harding, Jaidi and for the goals Lallana. Having said that all the team looked pretty good. Davis never really had to exert himself, altough his attempt at building a wall was disasterous. Perhaps we should get a Chinese goalie. The Saints fans made a terrific noise. The Shrimpers didn't say all that much. Most random heckle ever walking away from the ground - Some old Shrimp git walking up to me and going, "er... McGoldrick for England!"
S-Clarke Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 ''Southampton won this game purely because of their fantastic midfield, best in this division i've seen in sometime. Every pass was picture perfect, expansive and inventive... Our defence couldn't handle it. Lallana is a wonderful prospect.'' well that's nice to read, it's been a long time since we've had any sort of midfield.
JustMike Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 http://www.shrimperzone.com/vb/showthread.php?t=55106 They apparently deserved the win according to some. did they bugger!!! they offered a few huffs and puffs but no final ball, they were awful at the back too. We were good value for the win and were unlucky not to have scored more

Mr Saints Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Live in Essex and just got back after a celebratory drink or two. Superb TEAM performance tonight, the big difference from last season is we actually have some balls about us and players are willing to stand up and be counted right down the spine of the team in Jaidi, Trotman, Hammond and Lambert. Dominated the first 20 mins, if Lallana had put away a great chance at 1 nil it would of been an absolute cruise. However, after conceding the equaliser the heads didn't drop and the killer goal just before half time meant we could relax in the second half and hit them on the break which we did very well with Papa and Lallana. Superb away following and according to Southend fan I spoke to afterwards, 'the best at Roots Hall for a good few years.' Onwards and upwards with Pards!
S-Clarke Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 The Charlton fan on there makes me laugh. I love winding him up about Pardew. he's a plank! obviously their midfield is half decent, but didn't we boss the midfield show in the first half up there? who cares though - we all believe our midfield is very good for this level.
Bailey Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Great result and I have to say, I didn't expect us to win this one. A good, solid performance and now we finally have our first away win of the season! Two more goals for Lallana too, he's looking lively in front of goal at the minute and long may it continue. With confidence no doubt sky high, lets roll on the next game!
shurlock Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 On my way back now... we were superb in the first half, probably Lallana's best individual performance of his career so far, Southend just couldn't get near him. Notable mentions for Schneiderlin and Lambert going forward and Paul Wotton for a sterling holding job in front of the back 4. Couldn't do anything with their goal, great strike from the free-kick.] Wotton had a poor game tonight - the guy is a shadow-chaser. He's the kind of the player who looks busy but is ineffectual. We had three CMs yet still conceded too much possession and spac On tonight's performance, I wonder if Perry could do Wotton's job because we are pretty thin in the holding player department and pace is not part of the job spec. Perry has the the brain and composure to clean things up and his passing can't be any worse than Wotton's. At any rate Mellis will be returning which will give AP some interesting selection decisions. I agree about Lambert and Schneiderlin; Lambert was an absolute rock in miserable conditions, keeping hold of the ball when others were losing their feet and taking too many touches. Schneiderlin looked up for it, a positive sign given that this is the kind of game -full-blooded and ugly- that he's typically baulked from. And it goes without saying that Lallana was excellent. He and Lambert really understand each other. Finally Papa is no Wanchope - the sheer grace with which he broke in the first half to set up AL was a sight to behold.
Fan The Flames Posted 10 October, 2009 Posted 10 October, 2009 Onwards and upwards, can relax all weekend. It will be interesting how many points we are out of relegation zone come Sunday evening.
