Hatch Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1219047/THE-LIST-The-worst-strikers-played-Premier-League-Nos-10-1.html?ITO=1490 Our friend Mr Dia in at no. 4 Tin man at 39.
CB Fry Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Putting Ali Dia in any list really is pretty lazy journalism. Oh, and they've wheeled out Marco Boogers as well. Groundbreaking stuff!
Colinjb Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Delgado in any 'worst strikers' list is sloppy. Now, most ill judged and injured list on the other hand.....
SaintDonkey Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 How do you 'rate' a striker? Ormerod scored 12 goals in 98 league appearences for us, mostly in the Premiership. A strike rate of one in eight would mark him as far worse than many on that list. Yet most Saints fans remember him affectionately and he probably won't make a list of the top 10 worst Southampton strikers - well perhaps not the top 5 anyway What do you think would be the top 10 worst Saints strikers? I'll nominate Uwe Rosler for the list.
Supersubpuckett Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Craig Maskell David Speedie Kerry Dixon BWP
krissyboy31 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Craig Maskell David Speedie Kerry Dixon BWP Off the top of my head, I don't think any of them played for us in the Premier League. Pretty sure Maskell, Speedie and Dixon were pre-PL and BWP only played for us in CCC.
treggs23 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Think Dixon and Speedie were first year of prem and Maskell was around in 1994 - scored against Pool on Valentine's day that year...
benjii Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Craig Maskell David Speedie Kerry Dixon BWP Those two were utter....
Arizona Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 I think their criteria must be biggest wastes of money. There is no way Sheva and Rebrov are in there based on tallent.
alpine_saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Those two were utter.... They were what we got for Alan Shearer. Dalglish must have been laughing his tits off at us.
richie Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 shed loads of sunderland and Newcastle players in there! Christoper Wreh ended up playing for my local non league team Buckingham Town last season.

Kenilworthy Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Gotsmanov didn't get much of a look-in though since Shearer, Rod Wallace, Rideout and MLT were around. He only made a couple of starts and when he did play I thought he actually did quite well. Really he was probably only signed to keep Cherednik company, but he did score against England at Wembley.

Fair point - I wonder if he was on the forgery lark that Cherednik got associated with. Saints players who have scored against England at Wembley - step forward Ron Davies!

We could easily add Mark Hughes, an internationally-renown striker, but rubbish for us in that position and ended up as a midfielder...
