smithy Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I am chuffed to bits with this signing and with Pardew and his team.
beatlesaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 pretty positive for a thread on ex-player (post 98) Yeah they seem to like him......pretty decent bunch of supporters up there too.
gjphilsaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 All that is needed for this partnership of lambo and DC to spark is.... service. If you provide them... they will score!
skintsaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=446337 sunderland fans seem very fond of him I am liking the comment of : He does have the nack of tucking chances away with reasonable regularity. Something we are guilty of is not taking our chances.
Langleysaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Top signing , we need to get him match fit , i suspect a couple of run outs with the reserves before he hits the first team, how bad was his injuries?
wightman35 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Top signing , we need to get him match fit , i suspect a couple of run outs with the reserves before he hits the first team, how bad was his injuries? Enough to keep him out for 18 months, apparently. But signed in time to play Friday after 3 weeks training with us. Could be a good one:)
Viking Warrior Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Im not suprised at this signing afterall Weston mentioned it at the weekend that he had heard he was training with us. Lets hope he keeps fit. will be a terrific signing if he keeps fit
The Kraken Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Score a goal David Connolly, and we will love you more than you will know.....
farawaysaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 We asked for cover in the striker position and we received. Thank you Mr Cortese can I have a pony?
dubai_phil Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Well guys. AP says he's doing something about a striker Some moaned and carried on, but ole AP just carried on and got us a proven Striker. How long will it take us to understand this total shift in our lives. The club management say something and then go and do it. Shocking, may it never cease Excellent signing, like the others say he is on a road back and hope he makes it for us, AP & the Med team must have seen something there. Oh and don't expect us to go straight to a rigid 4-4-2 immediately, he'll come in slowly to get match fit again and so that FINALLY gives us better tactical options as well during a game. Well done Pilchards & Weston The Truth is out there... (but nice to know it is found on here from time to time)
smithy Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 We asked for cover in the striker position and we received. Thank you Mr Cortese can I have a pony? Careful Mack Rill will be calling you a fiddler.
NN2 Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Score a goal David Connolly, and we will love you more than you will know..... One of my favourite ever songs for Shipperley that one. Would definetly have Connolly in my side over Danny Webber
Tractor_Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Score a goal David Connolly, and we will love you more than you will know..... As long as it's not an easy one or one that's scored too close to the goal line
ringwood Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 another great signing so nearly a full team davis (who nearly left so could be a new signing) murty jadhi trottman harding melias hammond waigo lambo connolly no excuses now as Pardew has his own team
NickG Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Last 6 games; 12 goals (Jaidi 1) Waigo 4 Lambert 3 Lallana 4 Waigo 4 in last three games Lallana 3 in last three games
smithy Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Last 6 games; 12 goals (Jaidi 1) Waigo 4 Lambert 3 Lallana 4 Waigo 4 in last three games Lallana 3 in last three games I think one of Waigo's is Lamberts. But the same result otherwise.
Clifford Nelson Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Well guys. Well done Pilchards & Weston The Truth is out there... (but nice to know it is found on here from time to time) If he's a great success he'll be with us for a couple of years, which is great, because then we ought to be looking at what we need for getting into the Premiership. These signings will not always be successful, I'm doubtful about Antonio, for instance, but there clearly is a plan and a management team which intends to put it into practice.

Agree, still has to prove himself, Papa is improving game by game and so will Connely I am sure (sweepstake on first poster to start a thread with Connely is rubbsih anyone?) Meanwhile yes, sure seems like they are working to a bloody good plan. Actually I'm almost sure it is an excellent plan, crafted with great care and professionalism with input from many experienced stakeholders, and long may they continue to plan and review and adjust their goals aims and targets as all good professional managers and directors in any walk of life should
niceandfriendly Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Could be a great signing. I think it says a lot that the Sunderland fans like him so much. He's exactly the sort of player that could do well in League One and Pardew has snapped him up. AP's signings so far have been spot on, well done AP and the board.
NickG Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Last 6 games; 12 goals (Jaidi 1) Waigo 4 Lambert 3 Lallana 4 Waigo 4 in last three games Lallana 3 in last three games assuming (hoping!) Connolly finds full fitness/form not sure what our first choice 11 would be now?
niceandfriendly Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 assuming (hoping!) Connolly finds full fitness/form not sure what our first choice 11 would be now? If everyone was fit I'd say Davis Murty Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Schneiderlin Hammond Lallana Connolly Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Thomas, James, Mellis, Gillett, Saganowski, Paterson, Mills. The only problem with that line up being that Lallana doesn't seem as involved on the wing as he does upfront. Perhaps Connolly has been brought in as an "bring him off the bench when needed" man? Though I'd have thought he'd be too good for that if fit.
SaintSparky Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Excellent news, another step in the right direction.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Players of Connolly , Lambert and Jaidi's standing just don't come cheap (in terms of wages anyway) so well done to Markus Liebherr for putting your hands into those oh so deep pockets yet again . I strongly suspect we have one of the best and most expensive squads in this division now so the pressure's on Alan Pardew to make the most of it . From everyone to whom much has been given , much will be required ; and from one to whom much has been entrusted , even more will be demanded . Gospel of St Luke
Pat from Poole Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 another great signing so nearly a full team davis (who nearly left so could be a new signing) murty jadhi trottman harding melias hammond waigo lambo connolly no excuses now as Pardew has his own team That last sentence is a very good point. Added to Lallana showing signs of coming good, we ought to be a major threat in this League.

Mr X Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 18 months is a long time out! but lets hope hes over the injuries that have plagued him, as from what i can tell hes a talented player
dune Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I just want to say a big thankyou to Mr Liebherr. You are without doubt the biggest hero in this clubs history.
Iowsaintsfan Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Well pleased, if he has been training with us for 3 weeks AP must have a good idea how fit he is? lets hope he hits the ground running (without getting injured)
Iowsaintsfan Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Score a goal David Connolly, and we will love you more than you will know..... I miss Neil Shipperley
RonManager Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I miss Neil Shipperley If it's any consolation, he misses you too....:smt090
brmbrm Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 another great signing so nearly a full team davis (who nearly left so could be a new signing) murty jadhi trottman harding melias hammond waigo lambo connolly no excuses now as Pardew has his own team Well, playing with only 10 men is a pretty good excuse IMHO. Maybe he could add Lallama. Just a thought.
oggiee Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 The final piece of the jigsaw for me, I dont think the summers inward transfers could of realistically gone much better! Great Signing, congrats and thankyou to the board, backroom staff, and Pardew for this.
eelpie Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I think you are spot on with that. The challenge if he was to start would be what to do with Adam Lallana. If Connolly is ready to come off the bench, then problem solved. Good point. Our fate was sealed against BR when Lallana was replaced by rubbish and they brought on Wiliams, who scored. Time we had strength in depth.
Saint_clark Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Davis Murty Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Mellis Hammond Lallana Connolly Lambert Would be my first choice team now.
hypochondriac Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 yes well done pichahrds where did you get your info? well done mate. I see you posted it as well.
saint_stevo Posted 8 October, 2009 Author Posted 8 October, 2009 I just want to say a big thankyou to Mr Liebherr. You are without doubt the biggest hero in this clubs history. Free transfer....
RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 yes well done pichahrds where did you get your info? Doesn't he work at or near the training ground or something? If this is correct does that mean I am ITK?
Professor Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Free transfer.... But there is a wages cost and Pardew has not been able to loan out many people, probably less than he hoped. The wages bill must be quite substantial now and that alone shows the depth of commitment by Marcus Leibherr. This signing has increased my confidence level massively, because even if it is a fitness gamble it shows that Pards and the owners are willing to do whatever they can to continue strengthening. The Torquay game showed that the second string are weak but Connolly is real quality and removes the need to use people like Patterson, who may be prospects but really are not ready yet. Could be it mean farewell to Saga?
Bailey Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Potentially a very good signing for us. Although Connolly has been out injured for quite some time, he is a proven goalscorer and should get plenty in this division, providing he is given the service. He might just be the perfect foil for Lambert, and if they hit it off then we may have one of the best strike forces in the division.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 He's been labelled a "fox in the box", therefore he will be a complete and utter failure
Saint Bones Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Ahh a great way to start my Friday morning. Hopefully the 3 weeks have been a relatively intensive fitness test. Welcome DC
rick1976.4.38 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 just got home to see this bit of news, great signing if he stays fit and should make a great partnership with lambert.onwards and upwards with the mighty saints, coyr
Greedyfly Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Muy muy muy happy with this signing, congratulations to wild-saint for ITKness . I think he is the perfect foil for Lambert and can't wait to see him play. Could we see this starting line up though: Davis Murty Trottman Jaidi Harding Mellis/Morgan Hammond Lallana Waigo Connolly Lambert It's not ideal but I think it's the best way to fit Lallana in. Otherwise I'd be going for Davis Defence Waigo Lallana Hammond Holmes Lambert Connolly More width which I prefer but enought bite in midfield? Any other suggestions?
alpine_saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Looking at some of your line-ups, I had to say I wanted a clean-sweep of the old failure culture, and apart from Lallana and Davis, the job is nearly complete. I still worry that Schneiderlin is not up to the challenge, despite his apparent potential....
Teddy Nutkins Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Looking at some of your line-ups, I had to say I wanted a clean-sweep of the old failure culture, and apart from Lallana and Davis, the job is nearly complete. I still worry that Schneiderlin is not up to the challenge, despite his apparent potential.... Na don't worry Alps, i am sure Morgan will come good,so much so, we'll have a job to keep him here. His biggest problem, i think, is his fitness. He does appear to be a little fragile.
saint lard Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Quite possibly an excellent signing, barring injury concerns.
