suspect everyone Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 As long as he can put his past injury problems behind him we could be a looking at a formidable strike pairing. COYR

S-Clarke Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 What a shrewd little signing IMO. goodbye saga?
Sport_Monkey Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Sounds like a very good signing! Lets hope it clicks quickly with Rickie?
Tractor_Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Reckon we'll see him in action tomorrow night? Looks like a good signing and if he's been training for the last 3 weeks with the team as well then could feature tomorrow?
Greenridge Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Similar type of player to Saga and the same age bracket....
saints_is_the_south Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 If he can remain fit then could be a very good signing. Also will this mean a end to the 4-5-1 formation deployed by Pardew so far?
Crab Lungs Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Great signing, better than Saganowski IMO... and more importantly, a better attitude. Perfect foil for Lambo. Just Moritz Volz to go and my Saints 11 will be complete
Alanh Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Will be a good signing if, as Pardew say, he can get fit and back to his best form. Will give us the option to play a regular 4-4-2 with more confidence and capability, compared to pairing Saga or Patterson with Lambert.
S-Clarke Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 If he can remain fit then could be a very good signing. Also will this mean a end to the 4-5-1 formation deployed by Pardew so far? I don't think he'll be starting games for a little while, so that formation will probably stick for the time being - but what a top class option to be able to bring off the bench.
saint_stevo Posted 8 October, 2009 Author Posted 8 October, 2009 'training undercover' I like that expression. Doesn't like the rain
saints-cris Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Very useful signing i reckon. Hopefully will complement Lambert like I think he could..! Doubt he'll play for a few weeks though?
saint_neilo Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Could be the signing of the season fingers crossed he can get a few.
Nadia Sllim Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Hopefully could be a great signing our very own "Warboys and Bannister" combo!
The9 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Bloody hell, I'm impressed. More impressed than with Murty, Lambert, Harding, Jaidi, Mellis, Trotman or Waigo actually. Season long contract with possible extension if he plays a lot by the looks of it - just the motivation someone would need. Having had a quick squizz at Wiki, he hasn't played for his team in the better part of 2 years (since they made the Prem), but as long as he's kept in shape and hasn't been out with injury he should be a good addition.
RonManager Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 'training undercover' I like that expression. That was the bloke in the background wearing the camouflage strip and a bush on his head then?
stevegrant Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Well that was unexpected... a very pleasant surprise though
saintjay77 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I want to know where all the ITK's have been for the last 3 weeks? On paper we must have the strongest team in this leage and one that would also compete pretty well in the CCC I think. Given a bit of time to gel and settle in we must surly expect to see a challenge for promotion. At least we can see what the intention is nice and clearly now. Teams of the past few years have looked like the intention has been to improve but played like the intention is to bail out. Its nice to see the whole club turning the screw to actually achieve something.
Hatch Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Doesn't like the rain or he was disguised as a bush/hat stand/book shelf etc etc
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Brilliant signing, like a rich mans Cureton or Forster (but with more pace). Better than David Healy for me too. ****ing impressed to be fair.
saint_stevo Posted 8 October, 2009 Author Posted 8 October, 2009 Hopefully offering him a short term deal will mean he is playing for his future, and thus he will be keen to impress. Hope Lallana can still be accomodated, and not on the left
saint_stevo Posted 8 October, 2009 Author Posted 8 October, 2009 5ft 9? Always thought of him as a threat aerially for some reason, am i going mental
KK the 2nd Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Hasn't really played for 2 years though. Let's hope he's still got it ..
saint_stevo Posted 8 October, 2009 Author Posted 8 October, 2009 Once the highest paid player in Dutch football
Matthew Le God Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Anyone seen anywhere what squad number he has been given?
Fan The Flames Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Let's hope he rebuilds his career and our fortunes.
S-Clarke Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Good signing. But i hope lallana still plays I don't think he'll be replacing Lallana somehow...
disconnect Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Great signing, hopefully has still got it. p.s. mods - why has my other account 'Spank_182' been blocked?! No reason has been given!!
latter day saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 this is a blinding signing if he has got over his injurys ok. as stated, hopefuly the option of a second year in the contract will mean he will bust a gut to earn it.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Didn't see this one coming! Think he was mentioned on the HCDAJFU thread ages ago, and I believe he can do a job for us. A very shrewd and a very good signing, keep it up Pards.
SW11_Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Hopefully could be a great signing our very own "Warboys and Bannister" combo! Would have been better (for the tabloids) if his surname, was Butler, but there you go... Good signing hopefully - great experience and an out and out goal scorer. More goal scoring/creating options for AP.
SW11_Saint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Brilliant signing, like a rich mans Cureton or Forster (but with more pace). Better than David Healy for me too. ****ing impressed to be fair. One of those names (like Healy, Cureton et al) that you remember coming off the bench against us and the ground giving a collective "oh here we go...". About time we signed a player like this, I think he'll do well.
waggy Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 This from AP talks about Southend and signing of DC

You've obviously been looking under the wrong covers;) totally agree with you on the strength of the squad AP is building, possibly a bit to big, but starting to get strength in depth at long last.
NickG Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 interview to listen to on echo site about it http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4672646.Saints_sign_Connolly/?ref=rss
Clifford Nelson Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 He could be a very good signing for us with a record of 1:3 more or less wherever he has been. It means playing two up front again, which will change the formation. I don't thing it will affect Lallana or Papa, but with one more striker there will be one less in CM. Hammond is a certainty and AP likes Schneiderlin, Wotton was expected to go back to the bench, so where does that leave Mellis?
TijuanaTim Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Fantastic FFS Now that is a quality signing I believe, this dude just knows where the net is....whereas most strikers deteriorate in the 30s, he may have improved in a strange way as he always seemed to struggle with 'attitude' problems when younger. Really wanted him at the club in his 'Don' days as he was wicked in front of goal...a little and large combo with Lambo could scare this div (maybe even the CCC) schitless FFS Oh, and it's David Connolly with an 'o'...he can just finish
Wildgoose Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I don't think he'll be starting games for a little while, so that formation will probably stick for the time being - but what a top class option to be able to bring off the bench. I think you are spot on with that. The challenge if he was to start would be what to do with Adam Lallana. If Connolly is ready to come off the bench, then problem solved.

We can't expect him to start matches for a while yet (IMO). But with Mellis out for the next game, who knows...?
