RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 WORST home support has to go to Aston Villa. Tryly truly awful support. Nahhh has to be Watford!
SaintRobbie Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Worst support for me had to be Fulham. All you get is 'Come on Fulham' and a whole stand for neutral supporters! FFS!! What's the point in going to a neutral stand... what are you going to chant? 'The referee's a good bloke' or 'come on Fulham and the opposition'. Nice ground, but goodness me what crap fans.
Mao Cap Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Sad to say, those bastards down the road at the first derby in 03/04. On that open end I couldn't even hear the bloke next to me, they were that loud. Despite the scoreline the next season, it wasn't quite as loud. Birmingham in the season they came up (2002?) were lairy f*ckers but made an excellent atmosphere. Cardiff at Ninian Park were always impressive. Millwall at last year's playoff final v. Scunny. Bristol Rovers v. Yeovil in 2004 was pretty epic. Ultimately though, it depends on whether you catch people on a good day. As Saints fans we don't have many sets of fans with a particular grudge against us, so most of the good atmospheres we experience are when it happens to be an important game.
simonsaints1 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 West Brom in the 70s and 80s were very loud.
jawillwill Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Pompey fans are amazing! We should really acknowledge that.
Sold To The Man @ The Bar Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Worst - 2003 Bolton away on a freezing Tuesday night Carling Cup Best - 2003 Spurs away watching Hoddle try and keep his job!!
saintjinksie Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Newcastle must be the loudest, the ground was only 2/3 full but when dyer scored they went mental. i like their 'shoes up if if love the toon' chant as well.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I remember a night game at Coventry 2/3 years ago. Burley was in charge think we lost 2-1 if memory serves. Anyway, the cov fans that night were fantastic, really loud and didnt let us get into many songs at all. Yep. This was the first game that came to mind for me too. The place was rocking, and it wasn't our fans making all the noise! The game was on Sky too if I remember correctly. Eh? I was at that game (Dowie's first for Cov?) and their support was appalling all game. As Coventry's always has been. You must be thinking of a different occasion. They were very loud.
bigtonesfc Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 WORST home support has to go to Aston Villa. Tryly truly awful support. The Holte in the early 80`s was one of the noisiest i`ve`ever been too!
Joneth Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I went to Bilbao v Valencia last year. That was something else, the Basques are mental, 40 odd thousand people all jumping up and down for 90 mins. They did win 5-1 mind you so it's not surprising they were in good spirits.
saintchris23 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Worst support for me had to be Fulham. Nope. I went with my two Fulham supporting mates Vs Pompey last season and loved every minute of it. I got the Putney end (70% pompey/30% Fulham) singing anti-pompey songs! We were surrounded by them but I didn't care. I didn't fancy a kicking so I left my Saints shirt at home but believe you me, no-one cheered louder in that stand when Fulham scored and eventually won the game. Fulham away to Newcastle last season was good too! I became a 'closet cottager' by their fans after acting like a nutter in the stands, joining in ever song, starting songs and even throwing in a few saints ones too! We even sang loud enough to get Johnny Paintsil to wave at us.....not bad considering you're a million miles away from the pitch!! Fulham fans aren't that bad in the Hammersmith end but yeah, in general they are pretty lame when it comes to banter but that's why they have no enemies. They're a 'nice family club'.......... Now before I sound like a Fulham fan too much.....I know it goes against my logic but the two best games for atmosphere in my RECENT memory were Derby in the play-offs (I fookin 'ate derby) and a special mention to Nottm Forest for last season. Yes we were relegated but what a great day out and their fans are smashing.
stockportsaint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Ah yes of course, I stupidly forgot about Steaua fans. They showed that you can make a deafening racket without a roof and also whilst getting wet. They were something else. There was a stunning female local copper in the away end as well. I can't do a Rule 1 unfortunately though. They did cheat a bit for the noise though, as they had the bloke on the tannoy leading many of the chants, nevertheless they made a pretty astonishing amount of noise, and kept bouncing up and down for most of the game. As I remember it pretty much all the local women were exceptionally tidy, certainly the young ones. You might even imagine that Ceaucescu (sp?) had all the ugly women shot or deported to the Russian Gulags.

Nice ground, but goodness me what crap fans. i agree Fulham are utter sh*t - for such a tight ground, they should generate real noise. nobody would shed a tear if half of lancashire -Bolton, Wigan and Blackburn- was nuked either. The common theme is that these clubs were snatched out of oblivion by rich, high profile chairmen; yet their fans have not kept up.
Berkhamsted Saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Sunderland in either 81/82, not sure which. Third game of the season, and they had won their first two. Roker Park was full, and the noise incredible. We won 2-1. I was thinking about which ground made the most noise and you reminded me of that game. Their support was amazing that day. If they got a freekick in their own half they celebrated as if they had scored. We only took about 200 fans up there so were completely drowned out. Great away day as we shocked them by scoring after about 6 mins and went on to win. The other ground which is interesting is Ibrox. If they are playing well they make loads of noise but really disappointing support when they go behind. Fair weather fans imo.

Al Fayed was hardly high profile until the Diana saga and yes, Fulham were very much 'snatched from oblivion'. So much so that the groundsmen and security guards would actually let you in the old ground to say goodbye to it.....often sharing your moment with the weeds. Saints where nowhere near this stage, no matter some people might think. We always had the asset of the stadium and a large fanbase within a large city. Fulham at the time had absolutely none of that. Do some research next time.
teamsaint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 stood in the middle of a few hundred Wrexham fans at Bristol city in an epic 4-4 cup tie.The wrexham fans were VERY loud.
West End Saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 The Steaua fans were impressive. That match also wins prizes for "cheapest beer" & the "wettest" game. What a couple of days out that was the Steaua fans were completley mental very impressive the rain was hammering down & they did not stop all game us Saints fans were class aswell great experience. Derby play off semi very proud to be a Saint that day fantastic support Forest last season again very proud to be a Saint fantastic support Watford & Reading last season were good

Al Fayed WAS well known before the Diana saga and his millions financed a rapid rise. so as he said - rescued by a rich benefactor.
