After last nights pen kick win are we more confident that saints will score or KD will have to save from 12 yards in future shot outs to win

KD as all good keepers should save at least 1 out of 5 but will the kickers score all of ours?

Kelvin was at fault for both goals torquay netted duriong the game. He could also have been sent off. Just lately he has started to worry me with his lowering standards. Perhaps he needs a rest. Bart has played two games and both were wins while on loan so he could have had a game last night. Another win could have helped him settle and start showing the form he was in a few years back.

Not been recently until last night but i have heard similar RE- Kelvin and he was definatly at fault v B.Rovers (iplayer) and last night.

He not been amazing this year, but in an odd way, is it down to him not being called upon as much - therefore any error is highlighted, as that may be all he does in a game?

Last year he was called upon time and time again to make stunning saves, as teams tore us open - but he still made the odd dodgy decision to come out and we conceded goals from it.

This year, we're solid - not easy to score against, so any errors he makes are magnified 100%.

KD is and always has been dodgy. He has become a legend due to his fantastic shot stopping ability, especially last year when so often he stood between us and a good hiding. It does not however cover up his faults. He is dodgy with crosses, his positioning is poor and his distribution is suspect, and these faults make those in front of him nervous. He is still probably the best keeper in Div3 but his elevation to God-like status by some baffles me more than a little. I admire his loyalty when he turned down a payday at West Ham, but I do wonder whether we may have been better off if he had gone and we had replaced him along with the rest of the squad.

Kelvin never has been the finished article, but I know that I'm definately happier with him in the team than without. He's the best keeper in this league by a long way, possibly even better than any the Championship has to offer. But yes he was at fault yesterday for both their goals, it happens I suppose.

As for penalties, with Lambert in the team it looks like we'll score most of them - he just looks confident. It's nice to have a few confident players for once.

We can't do better than Davis, despite his faults. I'm delighted we've still got him.

No flack from me! I agree with just about all of that.

Hmm, this thread seems to have gone off into an appraisal of KD. I haven't seen the last few games so can't really comment.

I was impressed we scored all 5 pens last night - what was the chance of that i thought (at first) but read up later that AP and the coaches had practiced pens and planned where the pens would go to beat Scott Bevan. Good preparation led to a good result. So, to answer the original question, yes I'm now confident that we have 5 reliable penalty takers. And with KD's record of saving some, we will always stand a good chance at penalty competitions, although I'd sooner we won the game in 90 mins!

The Torquay result is going to be a watershed for us. Why? Because last night we got a break.. we won a pen shoot out, which given our past glories has been rare of late. That win will give us confidence because thats what happens in those circumstances.. the "high" from that will be important. Add to that the 4-1 win and thats the beginning of that "mentality" that AP is after. It maybe a small green shoot of recovery, but we,ve been supporting ateam in a desert for the last few years. 5 out of 5 pens will work wonders for those who took them (especially James & Wotton) and KD will also add to his kudos (if not here, then at the club). Well done boys. Next step...?

We have always had dodgy goalkeepers. Paul Jones and Dave Beasant, for example.

Kelvin Davis has his moments of dodgyness, but he also has moments of brilliance. I am of the opinion that we have just about the bext GK available at this level.

If we get promoted, and we are pushing for further promotion, the situation may need reviewing, but lets not forget he turned down a cushy number at WHU to stay with us.......

Think must clubs could say the same of course we did have Shilton, worth 10 points a year.

and who knows how good Gerry Gurr would have been

I possibly agree - but I think he's a very nice person (matters to me if noone else) and a great captain to add to the qualities you highlighted.

I am very pleased to have Davis in goal and I would not want to replace him with any goalkeeper in this league and not many from the Championship either
