Has anyone seen Lowe, Wilde or Askham (I do wish people wouldnt keep forgetting the Chief Architect's name) at SMS this season yet ?

Noooope, didnt think so...

Perhaps they have all moved to Austria?

Really Alpine, whjat planet do you live on?

If they were there you would be slagging tem off for having the nerve to show their faces.

This post just trivialises and / or glosses over so much of what actually happened under Lowe, its impossible to know where to start.

Suffice to say, the reason we attracted no funding under Lowe and no debts were paid off is very likely down to the arrogant personality involved, and I find it an absolute disgrace to make it sound like ten years in the Premiership were thanks to him; we were already there, and for most of those years, we were lucky that there were 3 or 4 teams marginally more sh*t than us.

You do love a generalisation don't you?

Isn't it funny how the people who followed Lowe had exactly the same problems in trying to get investment from exactly the same people? Perhaps they were arrogant too, or just perhaps there are not many people who want to chuck their money away on a football club? Of course you were there on every occasion and know exactly what happened.

Just perhaps people were waiting to pick us up for a song after adminsistration? Nothing to do with Lowe?

Yes of course we were in the Premiership before he arrived. And we stayed there with crowds of 15K.

You are quite happy to lump all the blame for everything that went wrong on his head but not to give him any credit for the things that went right? It is like deabting in the schoolyard.

Yes of course things went downhill very quickly after relegation as they did for lots of clubs that Lowe had no involvement in whatsoever.God knows whre the stupid reference to King Canute comes into it. Was he managing Charlton, Norwich or Leeds?

Irrespective of the reason we stayed up for so long with so little revune, the simple fact it we DID stay up. And a lot longer than perhaps we shoul have, just maybe due to the prudent handling of what little cash we had.

You seem to conveniently forget that we still managed to put out a team with some class players Niemi and Killer could have played in any of the teams above us. And we did it on a tight budget. Many of the players we had then are still playing in the Premiership by the way.

Still, I trust that both yourself and Duncan will be pulling the new people to bits in a few years time if we are still graceing the third divsion? Or will it be time to point the King Canute tag at you too?

By the way, were you at Cardiff with your Lowe Out banner a few years ago Alpine and Duncan?

Alpine, another question for you.

You have made some pretty in depth judgements on here about certain people who you have never met.

Tell me, how do you know that our new owner does not posses the personality traits that you castigate others for?

If ML is an arrogant drunk can we expect you to spend the next few years posting here every day having a pop at him?

Yep, and I am past the point of taking his points seriously enough to try to answer them.

He's a relic, a joke figure symbolising the past we have thankfully managed to shed.

If he cannot move on and still wants to stoke up petty feuds, I feel sorry for him.

Which is probably why, between the regular stalkers on here you've all managed to weed us down to only ever having just over 100 folks on line at any one time.

The old days have gone, the same arguments are repeated more often than Dad's Army, but always at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

Let's move on, I am sure it will only be a matter of time before the world turns again and we wake up to some new internal controversy.

The MLT apology ain't gonna happen

Nobody will be able to write the definitive Lowe/Wilde/Crouch/The Execs/GB/NP/LM/MC/GA/Ali blo*dy Dia was good or evil story.

So until we get a new snippet of actual factual data on the bunch of them can we stick to debating the thread titles instead of scoring points from matters 6 months old or more?

That way there may just be enough posters left interested to find 22 people for the next forum match..

Your opinions are valid, because you hold them, we all got it guys.

The only way out of this loop is to either have a "History Forum" on here or you accept that as FF says, until you sit down in the pub and have a one on one conversation one day, nobody is going to win an argument without some new facts.

phil, I might have to explain this to sum of the posters.

You have to remember sum of them went on all the time about Luvvies, Ra Ra girls, Baton twirlers, Majoretties Lowey and Wildey:rolleyes: etc etc......Never understood wot the hell sum of them were on.:smt033.....But I will support you to convert sum of these naughty boyzz and girlzz.

Never really understood wot a Lowey Luvvie was......Never came to terms with those who kept calling jonah:rock: a computer mechanic when all he tried to do was enlighten us about finances which someone suggested he had got from a comic:smt100 and the splendid financial utopia that Rupes would take us toooo...All very trying...So I can understand your thinking boss..:)

I was right there with you and that jacko....but had turned around when I saw the Dover sign post and those white cliffs in the background....Never tooo sure about that decision.;)

I wish..... Glasto comes but once a year but not if you live down here!

Trust me we never made it to the White Cliffs. We got there one day but found we'd forgotten our passports. On the way back found a nice bar of Toblerone at the Service Station and the rest as they say (we hope) is history.

Anyway, we have to worry about the forum otherwise where will you be posting when Hammond makes it onto the bench for his first game?

I still lol at how some of our paperwork blew out of the car that first day and looked to float off across the channel.

Still hate your part of the world though, blo*dy worm sh@gger bowled me 1st ball at Tipton one Sunday after I flew all the way back for our tour match weekend. Not that I remember too much about it. Think our opening bowler fell over in his first ball run up and vomitted. Was that sort weekend.

BTW, Simples I have seen where it comes from, but what bstd is actually responsible for Onwards & Upwards?

That last comment is key and the roll over attitude Phil you seem to advocate isn't going to help rule a line under recent events either and those that have IMO badly let us all down - if you are looking for a common denominator.

Thats a bit rich coming from you Alpine. You take every opportunity you can to have a pop at certain former employees of the club. As for feuds, I think you have hurled more abouse at people on here than I have had hot dinners!!!

If I symbolise the past as you rather dramatically put it, then I am proud of that. We had some great times (yes even under some of the people you profess to despise) in the past and I hope we have more to come. I for one though will not be slagging off people on here if those other great times do not happen overnight.

It does seem that you are obesessed with what alps says.

Hmmm not so much obsessed as saddened. He is quick to criticise and is the most negative bloke on God's earth as far as I can see. And for someone so ready to fire off an opinion he is very shy when it comes to answering questions.

There used to be lots of people worth reading on here but I think that people like Alpine have driven them away. I did have him on ignore for a while but so many people had his posts in their quotes it was impossible to avoid his unpleasant (in my eyes at least) brand of support.

It doesn't bother me so much that he actually really seems to hate some people that he has never even met just because they didn't live up to his lofty standards, it is his hypocracy.

It is apparent even now. I am supposed to be obsessed yet I am responding to his inability to leave the past behind. Any opportunity to pour scorn on his old adversaries and he is in like lightening.

It is so tiresome and no matter how many people pick him up on it (and I am not the only one who takes exception to many of his posts and his unique "style") he just carries on churning out the same old Alpine agenda.

Still he seems to have some support on here so I guess I am wasting my time!

It would be nice to have a forum where you can exchange views without having his type of comebacks but it looks like those days are long gone.

It's a ridiculous comparison between Pardew and Pearson.

I'm not sure Pearson proved he was a great manager with Saints - the Leicester evidence is much more compelling.

Usually, comparisons can't really be made over 13 games. The playing squad, the opponents and the divisions are different. Additionally, it's different folk for different strokes.

In some circumstances, handling the egos of aged pros is crucial. In others, bringing on youngsters is the key. In others, making sharp signings to rebuild the team is what is needed.

I think anyone who believes that a comparison between Pardew and Perason is remotely scientifically possible, based on about a dozen games in charge of Saints, is a retard when it comes to football.

The cliche that it's a results-business is true.

The line between success and failure is tiny. Had we drawn 3-3 with Sheff Utd rather than winning 3-2, Pearson's reputation amongst Saints fans would be massively lower. To some degree, his high regard is down to an amazing and flukey Richard Wright save from Matthew Kilgallon when we were 1-0 down in that game - irrespective of his skills in man management, geeing up the pros etc.

Similarly, if Wotte had kept us up (and if we hadn't gone into admin, we weren't THAT far away), he'd be rated a lot higher.

I imagine Pardew will become a legend if we zoom up the Championship in 2 years time. If we lose the 2011 L1 play-off final on penalties though, he'll be derided. The difference could come down to one dodgy off-side decision either way.

From my perspective, most of the last dozen Saints managers score somewhere between 5 and 6 out of ten. Strachan being the exception.

Now, here's something that seems completely unrelated at first but actually sums up this whole argument with an actual Scientific Study.....

Sort of

So we have the those who are generally positives and we have those who are generally negatives on most topics.

We banter and b1tch and argue and nobody seems to change their point of view. And yet here is a research project that shows something - the positives have a different mindset - well we know that from here. But finally we understand that the negatives will never listen, they'll just keep calling us lot "Lucky B@stards"

Anyway I found it relevant to the forum, this argument and of course life in general. Take the happy moments guys

The point I was trying to make is that, for some, Pearson became a hero by winning 3 matches in 13 (which, lets be honest, is rubbish). Pardew has done the same yet there have been threads suggesting that he should be sacked sometime soon.

Of course it is ridiculous judging a manager over 13 games. That was my point. Yet it was done in a postive way for Pearson and a negative way for Pardew. Go figure.

I would argue that calling Pearson a "great" manager through what he has acheived thus far with Leicester is a little over the top though. The truth is, is he doesn't get promotion this season or next, he will be sacked in all probability.

Yeah, I don't think your response contradicts anything I've said - or even addresses the most salient points.

I don't think Pearson is a "great" manager - but I think anyone arguing his strengths has better evidence from his time at Leicester than from his time at Saints.

The 3/13 points comparitor just doesn't make any sense to me. But, to be honest, I think Pearson's stats over his short spell are better than the stats from Pardew's early weeks, in so far as such a comparison can be made at all.

3 wins out of 13 at the tail end of a season in a relegation fight in the CCC is very different to 3 wins out of 13 at the start of a (highly financed) League One campaign. Different circumstances, different problems, different challenges - but if really forced to measure up the 13 NP v the 13 AP games, I'd say the former was a better achievement (or a lesser failure)

By way of comparison, I'm pretty sure we lost more games than we won under WGS and Chris Nicholl. But that was in the Premiership as one of the lesser clubs.

The ask of Pardew in League One - with more financial support than any of our opponents - is (rightly) that we win far, far more games than we lose. A record of W 33% D 33% L 33% would be a triumph in the Premier League. Possibly even count as vaguely tolerable in the CCC. But would be a dramatic and embarrassing under-performance in L1.

The real straw man here is the notion that there's a contingent of fans who want Pardew sacked. I'd say that's probably the opinion of about 1% of Saints fans. Maybe less.

Many more, however, will consider that a record of W 3 D 6 L 3 is a rather poor start to our L1 campaign - notwithstanding the recent improvement in both performances and results.

And I don't think it's madness to ask "how much time should Pardew be given?" as a hypothetical question on a rambling message board.

FWIW, my own view on this is:

1. If by Xmas, it looks as if we are probably (i.e. at odds on) heading for relegation, the board should sack him and get in a new manager before the January transfer window.

2. If at the end of the season, we are no more than a mediocre L1 team (i.e. W 15 D 16 L 15) with no obvious signs of improvement and are unlikely to enter the 2010/11 season as bookies' favourites (or maybe 2nd favourites), we should change managers in the Summer.

3. If we are not promoted in 2010-11 (or are clearly not on target for promotion after c. 12 games), he should be sacked.

But, I'm pretty damned confident none of these three scenarios will come to pass. I'd put the chances at something like:

Scenario 1: 2%

Scenario 2: 10%

Scenario 3: 10%

So, I reckon there's a c.78% that AP will be leading us into the CCC - and probably beyond.

Interesting history thread. Chance to suggest that (a) Harry (dont play kids) Redknapp played Theo Walcott so often that Arsenal grabbed him while he was still too young to be contracted to Saints, and (b) Pearson did not set the world alight at Saints but became an icon to the Lowe haters. If Lowe had kept Pearson on, his reputation at Saints might be very different.

Absolutely.

It would have shown that he'd learnt a bit of humility and was prepared to acknowledge that he and he alone is not the person who know's best when it comes to SFC.

Unfortunately he proved precisely the opposite.

Luckily, he may have done us a favour in the long-run by securing his own demise.

LOL. Me too.

+3

We all know that Lowe couldn't stomach that Pearson was Crouch's appointment. As I pointed out at the time, Lowe was onto a win/win situation. He could have persevered with Pearson and had it worked out well, he would have taken the plaudits for being big enough to have stuck with him. If Pearson had failed, Lowe could have blamed Crouch.

But typical of the man, he had to go his own way and embark on the bizarre experiment, hoping against hope that it would work so that he could be hailed as an innovator able to think outside the box. As it turned out, he holed his own ship below the waterline and thankfully he and his cohorts are no more as a result of his crass stupidity.

Its not tasteless. It is important to remind us all that we should watch for those who would deny such immoral and evil events. In fact, the choice of book does exactly that. The term is in common useage now to refer to those who refuse to believe in events that are obviously true - it is even on Wikipedia.

It should therefore only be seen as distasteful by those who fail to believe the holocaust IMHO.

I think you feel about the same about A.S. as i do, infact he one of maybe 4 posters that i think drag this forum down to the point where i rarely post anymore.

I think you will find that people like him are totally inpenetrable, and is almost psychotic in his negative destructive opinions.

I firmly beleive it is this type of persons way of feeling noticed and i would imagine in real life, ie off the forum they are probably used to seeing people walking the other way when they are out.

Although, probably foolishly ive commented, i think your best bet is put him back on ignore and maybe if we all do that these type will eventually give up.

I think this forum should be for true saints supporters and not sad trolls that get there self esteem strangely by posting negative comments about our players ,management etc.
