Minsk Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 It's been a long day, that should of been 'era' instead of error. But yes, signing a player that had moved 3 or 4 times by the age of 24 and played about 10 competitive games in his career before failing to get even close to the first team in a year does go down as an error in my book whether it was a freebie or not. I did wonder whether you meant era, but had put it down to an extremely clever play on words.
Fowllyd Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 I did wonder whether you meant era, but had put it down to an extremely clever play on words. Likewise - I had an 'I see what you did there' moment!
benjii Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 You mean a Lowe error when we had no money to spend so relied on freebies? What, you mean that time we spent £1m on Schneiderlin, that era?
Professor Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 It seems to have become standard for some Saints fans to slag-off Anmtony Pulis, possibly without even engaging brain. Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play.

Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play. Ok. "I have not seen him play.... because despite being signed some time ago now he has never appeared to be anywhere near the first team. I can only conclude this is because he is ****e given that we have been rather weak in his specialist position for some time.... but wish him good luck and I hope Lincoln want to sign him."
Fowllyd Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 It seems to have become standard for some Saints fans to slag-off Anmtony Pulis, possibly without even engaging brain. Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play. OK then. I have seen him play, for the reserves last season against Swansea. Yes, he was hopeless - I'd expect a player of his age and experience to at least look the part in a CCC reserve match, but he looked way out of his depth. Oh, and it may just be the case that his record prior to joining Saints, coupled with the highly dubious manner of his signing, leads to a fair amount of the slagging off. Anyone engaging their brain can draw conclusions from a playing record like that. And, while I'm on the subject, why should only negative posts about Pulis start with the have/haven't seen him play statement? What about positive posts? Granted, it's hardly likely that anyone who's seen him play will have anything positive to post about him, thus rendering the statement superfluous, but I'm sure you get my drift.
Bailey Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 Good luck to the lad. He won't ever make it here at Saints but maybe he can prove himself at Lincoln. Hopefully the move will be made permanent as he doesn't seem to have any future at St. Mary's.
hamster Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Just thinking out loud here, but are people suggesting that his Dad in some way 'called in a favour' when he came to us?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Just thinking out loud here, but are people suggesting that his Dad in some way 'called in a favour' when he came to us? There are currently five ex-Saints on Stoke's books. Beattie, Fuller, Davies, Higginbotham and Delap. Is this a conspiracy?
saintjay77 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Give the lad a break. He has had a hard time with injuries. He is a young professional football player trying to find his level. He is not a fraud like Ali Dai and should not be treated as one. Good luck to him. I hope he has a successful loan period which leads to a revival of his career either at Saints or elsewhere. Some supporters are too quick to criticise. While I share some of the views in that he is a waste with us I go with what WS says. Good luck to the lad and I hope he does well. It might be the kick up the arse he needs to push onto a higher level or it might be that he finds his level and makes a career for himself.
The9 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 There are currently five ex-Saints on Stoke's books. Beattie, Fuller, Davies, Higginbotham and Delap. Is this a conspiracy? They had SEVEN of them last season before they released Vincent Pericard and Henri Camara in the summer. And of course "I have seen him play at least twice and he's pants" Poo-lis was there pre-January but he wasn't an ex-Saint at the time. I have noted their fans are now singing "Oh when the reds go marching in", and wonder if this is a new thing ?
rooney Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Was he on the bench for the Bournemouth pre-season friendly at Dean Court? If so, I have seen him in the warm up.
VectisSaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 It seems to have become standard for some Saints fans to slag-off Anmtony Pulis, possibly without even engaging brain. Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play. Disagree completely. Whether or not people on here have seen him play is irrelevant. We are not the people who determine whether or not he has a future career as a pro footballer. That is down to managers of various football teams that he has "played for" or been scouted for. Almost to a man (his old man being a slightly biased small exception) every manager he has been with has failed to select him for their team. They are the important views, not a load of cyber warriors on a message board. Pardew has made it clear that he does not fit into his plans, the same as most other managers. Chris Sutton has just started his first management job and sees some potential for a Division 4 side. Good luck to Chris, if he can get Ant to play then Sutton may turn out to be a better manager than Pardew and Pulis senior (jury out on that of course). I will confirm that I have never seen Pulis play, in common with almost everyone on here, because the fact is that he has not played for Saints 1st team, and has hardly played any 1st team games for anyone else either. Playing in reserve matches is hardly enlightening, but I guess does give some people a chance to boast proudly that "they saw Antony Pulis play football", something they can tell their grandkids in years to come. Any slagging off of Pulis on this board is warranted, not as a personal attack on the guy who I'm sure is a decent lad, but based on the hard fact that he is not a fully qualifed professional footballer. The ire directed at him is based on the fact that he was signed by Lowe and Agent Orange in a dodgy deal that did nothing positive for SFC, and perhaps contributed in a small way to our present predicament.
SaintRichmond Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Its Pulis to Lincoln for a month How much are we paying Lincoln ????
SaintRichmond Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Was he on the bench for the Bournemouth pre-season friendly at Dean Court? If so, I have seen him in the warm up. Yes .... he lasted 25 minutes on the bench ..... then was replaced by a water bucket ........

With the number of Clubs that he has been to ...... he must have a sore rse with all the kicks it must have had:cool:

I'd like to distance myself from Lowe having anything to do with my reasons for criticising Poo-lis. It is purely because he's rubbish, apart from maybe a teeny bit of jealousy that someone as untalented as he seems to be has made a good career out of nepotism and pretending to be a footballer. PS I shall be telling my grandkids (should I ever get around to reproducing) that I saw Tony Pulis, his brother Ray Pulis (a former teammate), AND Anthony Poo-lis play. PPS As a cyber warrior, I am offering you outside.
SaintRichmond Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 What, you mean that time we spent £1m on Schneiderlin, that era? Yes, that era ..... exactly where did the £1M come from ??? .... How much MONEY actually changed hands I wonder:cool:

Clifford Nelson Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I've seen him play! Really, I have. He played RB for the reserves vs Salisbury (7-1). Didn't impress at all. All the play went down the left side - Pernecky throwout to Molyneaux who passed down the line to Holmes. Cross over to Jamie White and ... another goal. Maybe one day we'll know the story behind the deal but at present its more of an Ali Dia deal. We know the story after Fitzhugh Fella told it to us. He was part of the deal which was to take Pulis Sr. to SMS. With the change of board this didn't happen, but the agreement needed to be honoured since it was us who changed our mind and appointed Portvliet instead.

Sanguin Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I think Lincoln made this signing in the hope of forging stronger links with Stoke to get better loan signings in the future.
yarb101 Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Article in today's local newspaper here in Lincoln http://www.sportsecho.co.uk/news/Lincoln-City-sign-Anthony-Pulis/article-1400164-detail/article.html#StartComments
Jez Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I like these comments from the article and the fans responses underneath "Clearly could be performing if it wasn't for injuries" The former Blackburn striker was pleased to land the 25-year-old admitting his "footballing brain" was a key factor behind his arrival. Good luck to Pulis of course though - those who mock are only jealous!

Saint Mikey Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 There are currently five ex-Saints on Stoke's books. Beattie, Fuller, Davies, Higginbotham and Delap. Is this a conspiracy? No. Only Fuller and Davies went directly from us to them. Higgy and Delap both went via Sunderland. Does anyone actually believe this tripe about Pulis Snr coming here and we had sign his son as part of the deal? If this isn't the biggest load of ****** I've ever heard, I don't know what is. Stoke went up automatically that year, whilst we stayed up on the last day. Very likely.
SaintRobbie Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Another Lowe-legacy failure leaves... the air smells sweeter every day.

You are forgiven for the Cardiff comment. I suspect Rattlehead will now be mocking you repeatedly for trusting my judgement in any way. He did manage to look poor in a 7-1 win against a Conference reserve team. Edited 8 October, 2009 by The9
Saint 76er Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 It seems to have become standard for some Saints fans to slag-off Anmtony Pulis, possibly without even engaging brain. Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play. FFS, in all his years in the game Pulis has played so few times that anyone who has actually managed to see him play should be wearing the T shirt. Meetings of the "I saw Pulis play society" wouldn't need to hire a very big hall I should think. BTW good luck to the lad as we really need Lincoln to be impressed (well sort of) and sign him permanently. Shouldn't imagine any fee would be involved. PS does he only move to clubs in red and white stripes. Maybe it's a fetish?

Pulis Snr might have seen how well our new Umbro tracksuits go with a baseball cap and decided on that basis, who knows ?

Arizona Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Personally I think he could struggle to get into Lincolns team. Anyone who is hoping he puts in a decent shift and comes back ready for Saints is having a laugh. I've seen him on what I think was his debut, a reserve game against Swansea. He was outclassed by Romain Gasmi, Jordan Robertson, Paul Wotton and Jake Thomson by quite some distance.
Andy_Porter Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Hopefully Lincoln take Molyneux and Forecast as well, they must be ****e. I have been unfortunate to see Pulis play several times, he just isn't a footballer. Even in 10 yards of space he looks rushed in possesion and makes mistakes when there isn't any pressure.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I have never seen Pulis play. My problem with him is that his CV indicates he is only making a living out of the game because of his father,he was injured when we signed him and he was clearly nowhere near good enough to get into our worst side for 50 years. Had Redknapp signed him as a favour to his Dad, there would be uproar on here. Lowe made a big play about signing mercenary players and Journey men when he wasn't at the Club and yet signed Pulis, Forcast and Molyneux when clearly none of them are good enough. I also dont believe for 1 minute Lowe would have honoured any agreement made with a previous regime in regard to this (unless it was a clear written contract). It was either a favour to Pulis Snr, linked to the Davies transfer or Lowe trying to show us how clever he was, by turning him into a decent player as a result of his "revolutionary coaching system".
Clifford Nelson Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 Some people didn't believe this and it caused a strop. And that was very silly. Why on earth would FF, who is a respected poster and Saints chronicler have made it up? It is difficult to imagine why he was signed for any other reason. He was too old for the plans we had at the time of developing youngsters and he was also injured. Whatever the reasons I hope he will do well and earn himself a contract for playing football. It is very clear that with the new players we are signing he doesn't stand much of a chance of getting in contention, which must be a rubbish situation to be in. Let's wish the guy luch instead of slagging him off.
Give it to Ron Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I have seen Pulis play twice....thats some doing considering his record. On both occasions he was way off the pace, constantly giving silly fouls away plus a couple of shocking tackles, his inability to find a team mate consistently from ten yards was astounding. He kept trying to get involved and was calling and encouraging which is fine but you must have some ability to be taken serious...unfortunately on both occasions he didnt show any.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I hope the nightlife is good.He likes agood night out and caused a lot of problems last year setting a bad example to the younger set by going ut on the lash all the time.A few of the junior members of the team followed him to Bournemouth for big nights out.
eurosaint Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I have never seen Ant Pulis play ! I think Ant Pulis is crap ! I wish Ant Pulis well !

Maybe OK if you've seen him play, but not otherwise. Every negative post about Pulis should start with an honest statement, "I have/have not" seen him play. Look at his cv? ask any fan of a club he's played very briefly for? i don't think i've ever seen a worse football career record. Anyone who knows anything about football could tell you he is not very good. I've also seen him play btw.
Rattlehead Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I suspect Rattlehead will now be mocking you repeatedly for trusting my judgement in any way. He did manage to look poor in a 7-1 win against a Conference reserve team. Harsh judgement given I didn't even play this week.
The9 Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 Harsh judgement given I didn't even play this week. You are Anthony Poo-lis and I claim my £2k a week.

hughieslastminutegoal Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 I too hope that young Pulis has a successful loan spell and it leads on to a favourable and prosperous career. Why? I'ts like the fatuous "Wish you all luck" comment when they push the lotto start button. None of us know the bloke, all we know is that he has "earned" a living from football for a number of years when his record suggests he's getting far more opportunities in the professional game than the vast majority ever get. Does he deserve such an extended chance? Probably not. Do I care whether he prospers elsewhere or not? Not really. Opportunities to be a pro footballer are limited, why would I hope he prospers at the expense of others who I also don't know? If he does ok, good for him. If he fails, then tough luck. If he is a nice bloke then I hope he earns a living doing something for which he is suitable.
spyinthesky Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 Ant Pulis started for Lincoln at Maccesfield on Sat Played wide right in a 5 man midfield From their supporters forum about Pulis ...'clearly not a wide midfielder and was substituted after 64 minutes... Better luck next time or will he follow Forecast and be returned before the expirt of his loan?
ottery st mary Posted 11 October, 2009 Posted 11 October, 2009 (edited) Pulis is World Class..... but may take a little time to get into this football lark. Sorry...forgot to add for prof.....Seen quite a few games with Ant on the field BUT never seen him play...But good luck to him wherever he goes next week. Edited 11 October, 2009 by ottery st mary

I'm not saying FF "made it up", I just find it implausible and therefore suspect he maybe wrong for some reason. He didn't dive, he just fell over, if you like. That season we signed numerous ****e players with little first team English league experience. Therefore I don't think we need a conspiracy to explain the signing of Pulis.
