Johnny Shearer Posted 11 September, 2008 Share Posted 11 September, 2008 I bought a new car just over 6 months ago and just my luck that coming down the M3 a loose chipping hits my windscreen and makes a ruddy crack/chip appear. Unbelieveable. I will now get my insurance certificate out and go to Homebase/Asda or whereever the windscreen people and see whether they can fix it or not. Anyone else got any tips on what to do? Ponty Posted 11 September, 2008 Share Posted 11 September, 2008 I had exactly the same on my sub 1 year old car last week. A spiderweb crack the size of a 50p after a stone flicked up from a car going the other way. Really ****ed off. My insurance covers it, with an excess of £60, but I hate having new screens fitted 'cos they always get more condensation afterwards. At the moment the chip/crack is covered with a square of helicopter tape, the clear stuff they put along the leading edge of helicopter rotors and (coincidentally) is put over all the bodywork joints on F1 cars. Handyman Posted 12 September, 2008 Share Posted 12 September, 2008 If you have to pay for a new screen shop around, prices can vary a great deal. On one particular car I was quoted £160. I got it done for £40. Admittedly a few years ago but I'm sure the price differences are still valid.
saints_is_the_south Posted 12 September, 2008 Share Posted 12 September, 2008 I recently had 2 in the space of a week! Where they have recently gritted the A326 i got the first one & had it repaired through my insurance. Next ******* day another stone flys up from a car going the opposite direction FFS! Luckily only a very small chip which i haven't bothered having repaired yet.
Johnny Shearer Posted 12 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 12 September, 2008 Aye, the insurance covers it and I'll look around the usual places for them tomorrow to see what they say. I really dont want the windscreen to be changed. As its a new Fiesta - one of those 'smaet' cars, so I dont know what'll be the impact of changing it will be. Johnny Shearer Posted 16 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 16 September, 2008 My Step Brother owns a company' date=' let me know where you are and I can tell you when and where they are[/quote'] Cheers but all sorted now. Got it done through the insurance. And they did it with RAC. Will check how it holds up tomorrow under various conditions!
