Arizona Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Doubt we'll get much traffic checking in on this one, so just the one thread. Personally I'd give a few players the night off, given how we've got 3 games in 7 days. I'd go with: Bart James Thomas Trottman Fish Bonio Wotton Gillett Holmes Pato Saga
amsterdam Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I think AP has already said that there won't be many changes - he wants to create a settled side?
Saint_clark Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I don't think we'll play too weak a team. ------------Davis Thomas Trotman Perry Harding --------Wotton-Gillett Antonio-----Mellis------Mills -----------Lambert
Scummer Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I don't think we'll play too weak a team. ------------Davis Thomas Trotman Perry Harding --------Wotton-Gillett Antonio-----Mellis------Mills -----------Lambert Is Thomas fit again now?
Saint_clark Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I think AP has already said that there won't be many changes - he wants to create a settled side? I'd prefer it like that to be honest.
Arizona Posted 6 October, 2009 Author Posted 6 October, 2009 Yeah, I'd revert to the team that beat the Gills on Friday, but for tonights game I'd rest a few of the big names. Perhaps Pardew wont, but it's a busy week to be playing unchanged sides. Mellis (international) and Lallana (minor knock) are out.
Saint_clark Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Maybe give that Garyn Preen a run out then.
saints_is_the_south Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 (edited) Pards said he wanted to name an unchanged team from Sat but would be forced to make changes due to Mellis being on international duty & Lallana picking up a knock. So one would imagine there will be 2 changes & that will be that. I'd go with the sort of 4-3-3 that we played on sat. Anyone know whether Thomas is fit? If so play him at RB & move James into the middle. -----------------Davis------------------- Thomas----Jaidi-------Trottman----Harding -------James---Wotton--Hammond------- Papa-------------------------------Holmes ----------------Lambert----------------- Edited 6 October, 2009 by saints_is_the_south
amsterdam Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I'd prefer it like that to be honest. Me too - I'm an old f*rt so I don't go in for "resting" the players.. 3 games in 7 days? Well ease up on the training a bit then... Players always say they'd prefer to play every game. We haven't been together as a team for that long, so the more they play competitively, the more understanding they'll build up. Mind you, if Lambert gets a knock tonight, I'll be spitting feathers that he was used in a less-important game - fickle, moi?!

On solent he said a strong team. Would expect a few changes.
saints_is_the_south Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 where did he say that? On solent he said a strong team. Would expect a few changes. Was posted on here after the Gillingham game, can't recall where the original poster had heard it tho. Either way we're going to be naming a strong team without too many changes imo.
NickG Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Think it was from Solent interview, he said something like it won't be reserves and it will be a strong team to win as think we can win the trophy. Would expect Jaidi to be rested at least - maybe Lambert.
Causer Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 What basis is Antonio being placed in peoples teams, for all we know he may be worse than what we have already got.
NickG Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 think just because Pardew said he will be involved tonight, and it won't be first choice 11.
Thedelldays Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Maybe jaidi rested and perry to play? Would like to see holmes get a run out too
niceandfriendly Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 where did he say that? On solent he said a strong team. Would expect a few changes. In todays Echo. He said if Mellis and Lallana were available he'd have named the same team and would look to take a few off on 65 minutes if we're in a position to do so. I'd like to see Holmes and Gillett come in, who we all know are decent players but haven't had a chance to show it yet this season.
eelpie Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Davis------------------- Lancashire----Jaidi-------Trottman----Harding -------James---Wotton--Hammond------- Papa-------------------------------Holmes ----------------Lambert----------- Reserves: Thomas, Antonio, Gillett, Forecast or Bart, Fish, Saga (Because he needs to 'showcase' Lancashire and Gillett he he wants someone to take them off his hands.)
dubai_phil Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Would expect to see the bench failry full of nippers for their first run out with an old head on there for emergency. Jaidi looks like he still needs games seemed to be blowing a bit on Tuesday and looks a little bulky still. James is slowly becoming less bad at FB and is improving in the attacking sense, his crossing and link up play would benefit from being more settled. Is Morgan fit again? If so I would expect --------Davis------ James -- Jaidi --- Trottman/Perry ---- Harding ---------Gillett----------- -----Morgan---- Hammond----- Papa ---------------------Holmes ...............Lambert If Morgan is still out then Wotton in the DM role and Gillett more on the right If he is taking it seriously then don't see why he would give Forecast a game But I'm running close to 100th in the prediction league so WTF do I know?
thesaint78 Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1819216,00.html Jaidi rested then as not in the 16 for the squad
The Incongruous Monk Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Just don't forget it's a 7pm kick-off, not the usual 7:45 :-) Would be annoying to miss the first half.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 A settled side is good but we also need to give some game time to Holmes, so would like to see him start. Also need to keep an eye out, in the stands, to see if we're being watched by our potential new striker!!
ottery st mary Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Shame..Young Anthony Pulis must be injured...
forever a red and white Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 would really love to see holmes a least given a half today, once match fit he certainly a worthy of a starting XI place surely.
trousers Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Thread titles you never thought you'd see, Volume 1: "Saints vs Torquay - JPT Matchday thread"
LostBoys Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I see Scotty Bevan is the Torquay goalkeeper for tonight. He comes from Southampton and I remember refereeing a Hampshire Cup game when he played for Winsor at under 11 level. He had a terrible day that day against Waterlooville but not through letting any goals in as Winsor won 6 nil but because he kept hitting his head on the crossbar. He was well over 6 foot at age 10 and the school goal was not regulation size. His father ended up behind the goal telling to him to keep moving off his line to avoid any permanent damage.
benjii Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Shame..Young Anthony Pulis must be injured... That's annoying, I expected him to take the JPT by storm this year.
ottery st mary Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 That's annoying, I expected him to take the JPT by storm this year. Pards knows more than us...but I would have thought ideal time to see once and for all..if Anthony was up to it......Deep down I honestly feel sorry for the lad as all the younger lads pass him by.:smt100......Having said that we want our three winning visits to wembley this year.
eelpie Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Davis------------------- Lancashire----Jaidi-------Trottman----Harding -------James---Wotton--Hammond------- Papa-------------------------------Holmes ----------------Lambert----------- Reserves: Thomas, Antonio, Gillett, Forecast or Bart, Fish, Saga (Because he needs to 'showcase' Lancashire and Gillett he he wants someone to take them off his hands.) Update from OS: Saints (from): Davis, Bialkowski, James, Thomas, Mills, Trotman, Wotton, Perry, Harding, Lancashire, Gillett, Antonio, Holmes, Hammond, Preen, Paterson, N'Diaye, Saganowski, Lambert. So my revised team: Lancashire----Thomas-------Trottman----Harding -------James---Wotton--Hammond------- Papa-------------------------------Holmes ----------------Lambert---------- Reserves: Antonio, Gillett, Bart, Mills, Saga Thomas instead of Jaidi who's rested. A pity we are only allowed five subs, so I don't think Preen and Paterson will be seen. I personally would not have risked Antonio either as a first showing in any cup match, but it seems this has been agreed as a condition of his loan.
Matthew Le God Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Lancashire----Thomas-------Trottman----Harding Oliver Lancashire won't play right back.
St Marco Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 It is a mickey mouse cup but i said the same thing about the Zenith Systems Data Cup and that did not stop the enjoyment of being at Wembley! So really as much as the rest of the football world might laugh at the cup we should give it a bit of respect. On paper this would be the easiest trophy for us to win. If we did win it i think that would be a great gift to our new owner and hopefully make him want more! So i think some players will need to be rested as we got another game on friday which is a little bit more important due to our league position. I would go for ---------------Bart/Forecast----- --------------------------------------- Mills---Perry--Thomas---Molyneux ---------------------------------------- Mellis-----Gillet--------Wotten-------Holmes -------------------------------------------- ---------Saga--------Papa------------------

Plus Jacob Mellis is on England duty.

sperm_john Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 southampton 3 - 0, 11/1 willhill southampton 4 - 0, 25/1 willhill southampton 5 - 0, 66/1 willhill if you fancy torquay to net one : southampton 3 -1, 10/1 southampton 4 -1, 25/1 southampton 5 -1, 50 -1 southampton to do our classic, win the first half, draw the second 14/1 torquay to win the first half, then southampton to win the second 20/1 as usual, lambert to score first, 4/1 lallana, 11/2 waigo, 11/2 lambo hat trick 25/1 lallana hat trick 40/1 waigo hat trick 40/1 random scorecast, lallana first, 4-1, is 80/1 money to be made tonight me thinks!! im opting for a high score!
Matthew Le God Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Some people really are retarded. Team IMO will be. Davis Lloyd Trotman Perry Harding Hammond Wotton Lallana Morgan Holmes Lambert Morgan is still injured and not in the squad. Lallana is injured and not in the squad. And you call others retarded for not knowing stuff! You look a tad silly now
Hopkins Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Haha. I really am a turd. Waigo instead of Lallana, which is what I meant. Didn't realise about Morgan so Saga will take his place and will play uptop with Lambert.
Um Bongo Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Think we'll line up like: Davis James Perry Trotman Harding Holmes Wotton Gillett Mills Papa Lambert
SaintRobbie Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I think AP has already said that there won't be many changes - he wants to create a settled side? Makes sense - he's only just started to work out his best 11. Some consistent selection is the next part of developing a side. ... lots of parallels with WGS' start in charge.
St Marco Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Mills is a left back. Mellis is on international duty. Some people really are retarded. You included. Team IMO will be. Davis Lloyd Trotman Perry Harding Hammond Wotton Lallana Morgan Holmes Lambert It buuuurrrrns! Lallana and Morgan are out so you should of had a look before you call people retarded hey! And Mills can play either side. He is left sided player but i have seen him play right in reserves before and he did ok. If push comes to shove he can play there. If not then just put James in there. Simples.
Genk Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Can't see Pardew starting with Lambert. Put him on the bench, if we are in the **** after 60minutes, then bring him on
Master Bates Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Sorry if already mentioned, but at least 6 players must be regular first teamers.
West End Saint Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Dont really know what to expect tonight in terms of team or how many but I am going Saints are at home we are only 4 games from Wembley dont care if it is p i s s i n g down I am going. COYR I really hope we get a confidence boosting win lets have it
Black Sea Saint Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 This has got Torquay victory written all over it!
S4INT Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Anyone know what the Torquay goalie is like? I assume he's not all that if Poke is normally picked ahead of him. Lambert could have a fun night?
Matthew Le God Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Anyone know what the Torquay goalie is like? I assume he's not all that if Poke is normally picked ahead of him. Lambert could have a fun night? It will be former Southampton player Scott Bevan. 7 years a Saint 1997-2004 and Southampton born and bred.
dune Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I can see us being really up for this game and running out comfortable winners. Up the Saints.
theyin Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 I think we should go all out to win this trophy. It's not mickey mouse to regulars in this league and would not only be a statement of intent but surely lift the whole city and the players involved, should we make Wembley again seeing as though the play offs are far from a certaintee COYR
